> The little things at the top (their name escapes me) having straight line art seems kind of weird because everything else has little variations here and there whilst they don't.

> Apart from that, wow, amazing work.

Merlons in that specific style. Else its a battlement. But I agree. Can't point out why but just at the quick glance it seems off. May just be that there is very little light difference on the top parts than the side. But I'll take another look when i return tonight.

I feel like the line art is pretty pronounced throughout the entire wall, It doesn't look terrible or anything but I can't put my finger on it… I can't really think of a concrete way to improve it either, so take it as you will lol.

I really like the way you shade/detail your art, particularly the bricks and foliage. Scary thing is, I feel like you still haven't lived up to your full potential, can't wait to see your work a couple years down the road. ![:)](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png)

> Im no pro, but is it me or the angle is much lower than on RMXP. i feel like this would be less for a top-down and more for a side-scroller. i dunno im no expert in sprites

Even rmxp could be more top-down, like zelda: lttp for example where you can see the entire tops of the trees. There is a wide range of angles one can use in this style. Think of it in terms of degrees. If you're looking straight down at an object that's 90 degrees. Anywhere from about 70 to 30 degrees is what is normally used for top-down games.

I've been short on free time lately but I'll have some more progress to share soon enough hopefully.

Some good points.

Is it possible part of the problem could be caused the wall only being a brick thick? Traditionally, stone walls have depth. Mine lacks depth, which may add to the perspective confusion.

I intend to add more behind it, like a walkway or something. That'll fix it, I think.

As for it looking "off," I'll play around with it a bit.

Thanks guys.

I thought it was "off" because of the very top portion of the battlements. I feel as though the light colored line that changes the segment to the top from the side is too light and looking at that made me feel like I was looking at some in 3D but without the glasses. Otherwise I love it.

Hope this helps some ![:P](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png)

  • 2 weeks later...
> Went for earthier tones, redid the wall, adjusted the tree a tiny bit, and made a grass mock-up to go along with it. Feelin' kinda iffy on the grass…

The earthy tones bring a nice realism to it. I think the grass might do well with an additional highlight.

Beautiful as always Nook, can't see anything to criticize other than what people have already said. I do like the earthy tones more, but #3 has it's own special style. It's all so nice, whichever you choose, I think they both give off their own good vibes.

I appreciate the kind words. ![:)](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png)

Thanks for the laugh, Enruin. Totally caught me off guard with that picture haha.

Some tiny progress:

Grass is proving to be a weakness. ![:P](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png) Several attempts haven't left me with much to show for. I may just ignore it for now until I can try again with a fresh mind.

Next step is an actual house, hopefully.

How… is that even... possible? I'm genuinely in shock at the amount of talent - that looks absolutely fantastic!

Really like the look of this. One thing you might want to change is the dark brown outline going around the bottom half of the leafs. Just changing it to dark green I think would give the same effect of making it stand out without having a weird nonsensical color in the mix. Can't wait to see some buildings ![:)](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png)

I second this. If you had some sort of effective hue blending it could have worked better, but instead you only have one stray color.

The buildings will be medieval timber-framed style. I'm fond of the look, and it will allow me to use both of the completed textures on one structure. Should have something done in a few days.

I appreciate the positive feedback and the critiques. ![](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.png) I'll give modifying the tree's border a shot.
