Really like it, but the trees seem like some simple thing you could make in MS Paint.

But if you're meaning to have that look I think it looks nice and simple, in a good way.

Just a little update! I've made street tiles and a dumpster. I'm going to be working on more city tiles for now so what else do you think should I add?

Anyways, as always, heres a map.

Thanks Marshy Dearest. I really have just been working these with the little free time I get here and there. I definitely plan on keeping this going so keep an eye out for updates. ![:)](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png)

Thats awesome. I think those are some of the only good custom modern tiles around here. That and City of Illusion, and even thats questionable.

Because they probably are, and that's the style? I thought that was fairly obvious.. And when have you ever seen Eclipse-esque graphics that can't be done in MS Paint? They're all 2D pixel art… ![](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif)

Okay so I decided to get off my ass and stop playing Xbox and make some more GFX. Didn't add much but I did manage to finally get around to changing up the trees and flowers a little(special thanks to CMFiend). Let me know what you guys think of the cars, I've never made most of the things on this map, so a car was hard considering. Also, keep in mind that I'm uploading these images with Eclipse file host which I think turns it from .png to.bmg or maybe even .jpeg(eww…) so the tiles are a bit cleaner looking then shown here, especially the brick building.

Okay, we are getting somewhere. But you ought to look at pictures of actual cars, trees, rocks, etc, to see how to properly create them. I like your style of tree, but it does not have any actual form. Cars are not rectangles (aside from some of them, sorta), they have shape and curves on the hood and the rear fender. It seems sort of confusing the way they are. And then that building to the bottom left has its depth perception ripped to shreds due to that sidewalk. The fact that is is level with it is probably the reason–it should rise above the edge of the sidewalk as if it were towering over, as that is what buildings do from that perspective.

Everything could use a bit more shading work, and a little more, but not too much more, detail to give us the full picture you are attempting to paint for us. You have improved, I must say that much. I like your windows and their circular nature, and your sprites are really cute looking and amusing. The sidewalks definitely add to it by how they appear to rise from the actual street, which is very good and an accomplishment in itself. Flowers could be a little more varied, but as it stands they are nice. I recommend using references when spriting so you know exactly what to do and what not to do.

First off, thanks for the constructive criticism from everyone, I really appreciate it. I've been looking at the trees and yes I too feel they need more so I attempted to add some sort of depth to them as well as cleaning up the base. I also fixed up the brick pattern as well, the old one was killing me for some reason. The concrete buildings seem like they need texture but I can't seem to come up with anything that looks good. I was thinking maybe something like what I did with the street and sidewalk, kind of like a rough texture, but it just looked strange. Any ideas guys? I could always just keep it how it is but I would like to change it a bit.

Anyways heres the new trees and brick pattern:

For the style you're going for everything seems really nice. However, even though this style is meant to be simplistic, you should add more detail to the cracks. Also, making the bricks a little bit larger would probably be a good idea as the repetitiveness can be painful to look at some times. Keep up the good work ![:)](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png)

Okay so I've made a few more things and thought I would show off what I've done. I figured I needed to make some slanted roofs since not all of the buildings in a city have flat roofs. Lets see, I've also added some more flower tiles as well as a bench. I think next I'll work on making a chain link fence and some roof decorations like air ducts and what not. Anyways heres the map.

Oh and I widened the roads it looks better IMO.

Okay, sorry to burst your buble, but this is **not** good at all.

There are ways to be minimalistic and cartoony without looking like you made the graphics in 2 seconds. Seriously, this "art" you've done requires no skill to do. You simply just drew a bunch of lines and slapped some generic default MS Paint pallet colors onto it. This isn't a "style"– it's just laziness. Nobody besides a few Eclipsers would ever play a game that looked like that.

Now that I've broken it down, time for some construction:

1) Learn shading

2) Learn actual line art (using the line tool != lineart)

3) Learn how to make an actual pallet and not cheesy colors

4) Look at PROFESSIONAL cartoony art (Maplestory, any JRPG, etc) and see what it's supposed to look like

I'm sorry, but I'm tired of no actual feedback being given on these threads. They just fester into huge circlejerks and it's resulted in very crappy work recently. Ignore everyone who's all over you right now because _they won't help you get better_. Everyone just swarms for the likes and post counts now.

I agree with Jungle, theres a lot of work which needs to be done.

This link might be of use to you, it addresses some of the basic principles:

First off let start by saying I respect your opinion Jungle, especially since I have seen your work, but I already know these graphics are not good. You are correct when you said that these could be made in two seconds, well in a short time anyway, that is why I choose to make them. I wanted to make graphics that I could do quickly with little effort so this style works for that. I agree with you on the fact that the palette sucks and I need to fix that for sure, and I may eventually, but I'm really not aiming for this to look beautiful or anything. In fact the way I see it is if you can tell what it is and it doesn't look completely like shit then it works. ![;)](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png) I know its lazy but I don't have a whole lot of time between working 50+ hours a week on top of having a wife and two kids to work on good graphics and honestly these graphics are just mainly for fun.

I have done other pixel art before, this is not my first attempt, but like I said this is really the first time I have ever made tiles. I've mainly worked on sprites and armor. I have posted them in the show off section before as well and, even though for the most part my work is not very good, it was more detailed and all around better then this. So in conclusion I know this art sucks but I have seen much worse, to be honest, plus I would much rather use my own shitty custom made graphics then rip the work of others or use rpg maker graphics at this point.
