because if you actually thought about it, a console is made for games not running 3 OSs at once and not being used as a tv box. We already have thw Wii/WiiU for the tv, OSs, we have tablets, phones and pcs for that. Tv, *sigh* that one is self explanatory.

Your the one who's deciding a console is made for games. An ipod was made for music and look at it now. A cellphone was made for calls and look at it now. A PC was made for writing documents on disks and look at it now.

The Xbox One, look at it now.

the fact it looks and works exactly like a cable box still remains. i can already watch tv on my tv. i can already listen to music on my phone. i can already go on skype and the internet with my pc. i don't need something that pretty much is just a clusterfuck of useless features.

For me the console is only as good as the games. Microsoft seems to have more exclusives over all. They also pay out the ass to get all the DLC first. Which makes it kind of a necessity to go with xbox unless you want to wait for content.

I'm pretty sure the PS3 has more exclusives than the Xbox.

My two cents:

I'm going to be purchasing a PS4\. Since 2007, I've owned 3 XBox's and 2 PS3's. Two of the XBox's RROD and the third I gave away. My first PS3 I had for a year then gave to my cousin when I joined the Army. My second PS3 I bought used in 2010 and have till now. It lasted longer than 2 XBox's.

For online play, why would I choose to pay money to play on XBox Live? I already pay for internet service that's good enough for me. Some may argue the online experience is better than the Playstation Network's online service but using both, I've never had ANY problems with the Playstation Network.

And if Microsoft is spending all this money for partnerships with game companies and to get DLC first, they must be pretty desperate if they need to spend that extra money to get users.

And I've had my Xbox 360 since 2006 and it's been through Iraq (hell on earth in terms of dust).

> Well now you can say goodbye to that as you will also require an internet connection, good luck with that. I do have to agree though that the games for PCs can render 3-4 year old PCs as ancient in terms of the specs needed; while the console games push it to the max, yet the games will still run smoothly. For example, many people own (what used to be) gaming PCs yet can barely run Crysis 3.

From what I've heard the always online DRM will be developer based and has nothing to do with the console itself.

I'm just stating the fact that the 360 had more problems than the PS3\. Both my crappy laptop and PS3 has been through Iraq as well. Microsoft has never been one of my favorites in terms of customer service. But from the looks of it, 90% of this forum are XBox fan boys so anything about PS you guys will try to counteract.

I have both a 360 and a PS3…well the PS3 doesn't work atm but it could if I cared. I got the RROD on my 360 about a year after having it. I ticked me off so much but luckily I had warranty on it so I mailed it to them and got a new one. (I decided to buy a PS3 at that time because I just thought it would happen again. About 1 maybe 1 and a half years after gettting the PS3 I got the YLOD (Yellow light of Death) for those that don't know. Sure, unlike the xbox you can fix the YLOD for a long period of time, but it requires some effort. Since I'm lazy I went back to my Xbox, it has been smooth sailing ever since.

As for the PSN and Live. Sure Live pays for DLC first but that's what hardcore gamers want from them (I mean they are paying for online, you have to expect the best.) As for PSN troubles if I remember correctly accounts and information were hacked on there up to the point the shut down the network for a couple of days. Microsoft cares enough to put a little more work into their security, don't believe that? Then why did the hackers hack PSN, when almost every Live account has a credit card connected to it.

You're funny. ![;)](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png)

Microsoft is getting too greedy in my opinion. Their services aren't that good, and they charge a lot more than they are worth. I feel the Xbox One is going to be a huge turn off for a lot of people as well. For example, they most likely require an always on connection, and they focused way too much on the stupid aspects of the console no one really cares about. A TV service on a Xbox really? Xbox 360 was better than the PS3 in certain aspects such as games, but Sony is making a good change where Microsoft is going in the opposite direction.

Just take a look at this comparison of the hardware difference:

>! Xbox 360

I never intended to buy a Xbox 360, but I played CoD:2 and found it amazing and then a month later saw an unbelievable deal in the shops so I went for it. I'm so glad I did. I have had 2x Xbox's over the course of the time. My first eventually had a GFX error and it got sent off for repair. They couldn't repair it, so they sent me a brand new replacement! (Checked Manufacture Date). That one lasted me for ages, but eventually I wanted a bigger HDD and ended up getting a Super Elite with the 250GB HDD. So I sold my old Xbox to a friend. It's still going strong I think. My experience of the PS3 was good, but underwhelming (Might have been all the amazing hype it recieved). The 2 consoles as far as I could tell were on a par, although I do think the Xbox Live service is the best out of the 2.

With regards to the **Xbox One**. I found the reveal underwhelming. I was glad we got to see the hardware! Kudos Microsoft for that! Although, I'm not keen on the style of it! Also, not sure if the controllers are any better than the 360 ones. I'm glad they demonstrated what the Xbox can do specifically, however did feel they put games on the sideline. I left the presentation feeling very "meh", will wait and see what happens at E3 which apparently is when Microsoft are going to be revealing all of the actual game content! Looking forward to it!

Lack of **backwards compatibility** is a real female dog, they dropped the ball on that one, although I have heard its down to the switch to x86 CPU.

I'm confused how the **Gamerscore** will carry over, if you can't play any of your old games. Can you see your game history? Also, if I buy a Xbox One, and then log in to my account, play games, unlock achievements, then go back to the Xbox 360 and unlock more achievements. Will it sync correctly? I'm assuming I would need to go through the "Recovery" process? If so, that's a ducking balls ache!

**Pre-Owned games**. Alot of rumours out there and alot of conflicting "confirmed reports". From what I can understand, you install the game to your console (1st Owner). You then want to play it round a friends house… fine, but only while you are logged in to Xbox Live with your account. You trade it in (allowed), the retailer sells the pre-owned game as normal. At this point I have heard 2 differing opinions:

1. The new owner has to pay a fee (decided by the publisher, not MS) to install the game, so they can generate some revenue.

2. The new owner installs the game, and the original owner has it removed from his account.

3. A combination of the above.

**Always on** connection is apparently not the case. Although you will need to be online when you first register a game. Apparently. Anyone else got more info on this to confirm/deny?

With regards to the **PS4**. I look forward to seeing what they bring to the table, but so far all I have _personally_ seen, is some game play footage, the controller and not much else. They need to reveal their console soon, they can't afford to fall behind the Xbox release again as that really hindered them this generation.

**Which will I buy?** Who knows. As it stands, neither right away. I will wait a year or maybe even 2 before I purchase one. Simply because I am happy with my Xbox 360 and can't justify the cost of the new console unless they really have something impressive to attract me. As it stands, I see myself buying the Xbox One over the PS4\. Reasons being, I like Xbox Live. I have an account on Xbox Live, I prefer the Xbox controller (Have to confirm though!) and I believe the Xbox will retail cheaper than the PS4.

**Final thought**… Anyone considering a Wii U, or got a Wii U? The impact they have had seem to be miniscule, I don't know anyone with one. Are Nintendo going to go the same direction as Sega? ![:(](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png)

**Bolded** **text** to help split my post up in to the relevant sections.

An you say I'm the funny one? LOL. The playstation has always been better in terms of hardware. (when release the same year)

360 vs. PS3: [http://crystalunicorn.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/playstation-3-vs-xbox-360.jpg](http://crystalunicorn.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/playstation-3-vs-xbox-360.jpg)

Of course the Xbox had better specs than the PS2, but it was also released a year later so of course (couldn't find an image of spec comparison)

So to say that the PS4 is going to be better simply basing that judgment on hardware specs is pretty invalid. It could be, but at the same time it could be like this past generation where the one with better specs turned out not to be the best. (As you stated "Xbox 360 was better than the PS3") Of course you said in terms of games, but when released that's the only thing the were aiming at. While time went on they made updates adding hulu or netflix and other apps as it started to appeal to the audience.

@Viper, I read that the Wii-U only sold 3.45 million units as of… I want to say marsh, which was a HUGE disappointment as stated by the CEO of Nitendo. I do have some friends that went out to get it and were extremely disappointed by it, so I'd advise not getting it. With regards to the Gamerscore that will simply be transferred over, I'd assume. I have Xbox Original games on my game history (because I played them on my 360) but they don't have any achievements for them. That should be relatively simple to handle. As for the backwards compatibility, I am extremely upset by this, but I think it may also have to do with the switch from HD-DVD to Blu-ray disc readers.

Xbox One has a DVD/Bluray combo drive. I just edited this post to reflect the information I've just gathered on backwards compatibility, and this is what was said, "No, there's not," said Whitten, when we posed the question. "The system is based on a different core architecture, so back-compat doesn't really work from that perspective." So the Xbox One will have zero backwards compatibility. However, if you own Xbox 360 games doesn't that also imply that you own an Xbox 360? ![;)](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png) Backwards compatibility is a quality of life improvement that honestly isn't that important.

I'm not judging it based on its hardware. Controller is the single most important aspect of a console next to its services and exclusives; otherwise almost everyone would just use Steam unless they aren't tech savvy to setup a computer entertainment centre. My point was that Microsoft was trying to transform their console into a entertainment centre, when they've always shown to release 3rd rated products. I'm not discrediting their success, but I'm not a fan of that business model.

Well Sony did the same thing they were doing with the 360; adding apps such as hulu and netflix to make it more of an entertainment center. I simply think that Sony up'ed what they were doing on the PS3, but not enough to be a truly new feature the way Xbox up'ed theirs. As for exclusives I believe Sony has more, but Xbox has better ones. In terms of service that is really an opinion (more so than everything else being stated here) as to which is better, personally I've never had any trouble or problems with Live. Sure I have to pay $5 for online a month, in return I get all DLCs before the other consoles; personally I'm ok with that, Live isn't that bad. Oh and up until this year, I used to $12 a year for Live, they always had that weekend where you could buy Live for a month for $1, and the next month that weekend would come up right as my Live was expiring.

Alright, if you're a consumer and you're considering picking up the new Xbox One console, then please, take a moment to listen to me. Before we begin, no, I am not a fanboy or a hater. I have no console Bias. I have a PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and a Gaming PC. Each has their pros and cons but now onto business.

DO NOT BUY AN XBOX ONE. Why? See the reasons below:

Xbox Requires an internet connection. Here's how it works: Every 24 hours your Xbox will try to connect to Microsoft's servers for verification. If it is unable to connect, sucks to be you. You're blocked from playing even single player games until it can connect.

Source: [http://kotaku.com/xb…lay-o-509164109](http://kotaku.com/xbox-one-does-require-internet-connection-cant-play-o-509164109)

Do you like renting games, lending them to a friend, or even borrowing them from a friend? No longer possible. Every Xbox One game you get must be registered to your Xbox live account to be played. After that point it will only work for you. No one else can use it unless they pay a fee. Essentially it works like this. You pick up a used Xbox One game from somewhere or someone, pop it into your console. The system verifies it's been registered to your account. Uh-oh, it isn't! In order to play it, you have to pay Microsoft a fee, which is currently slated to be full retail price. Doesn't matter how scratched up it is or how cheap you got it at gamestop or from a friend. You aren't just buying the physical copies anymore. You're paying Microsoft for a LICENSE to be allowed to play that game.

It is worth mentioning Microsoft is exploring ways for you to trade in and resell your used games. This is rumored to mean that you can sell your digital license to play the game (registration) back to microsoft, likely for microsoft points. You can then trade in the game at gamespot for some cash if you like. Either way, as it currently stands, the new owner would still have to pay a fee on top of the price of actually buying the physical copy.

Source: [http://www.technobuf…l-retail-price/](http://www.technobuffalo.com/2013/05/21/xbox-one-fee-for-buying-used-games-full-retail-price/)

Is it worth mentioning that Microsoft if shafting Indie Developers as well? Where as on Playstation Network or (whatever the Wii has) Indie Developers can self publish their content easily. Playstation even encourages this. Microsoft however forces these Indie Devs to enter publishing deals with them to be allowed to market their content. You don't go through them, you don't get to sell what you developed.

Source: [http://www.ign.com/a…ish-on-xbox-one](http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/05/22/indie-devs-cant-self-publish-on-xbox-one)

I'm not quite done yet! Now, I'm sure you heard a lot about "TV TV TV TV SPORTS TV TV SPORTS SPORTS TV." Yes, the Xbox is slated to be able to stream live tv, live sports, etc. So let me ask you this. You obviously already have something like cable or DirecTV. Do you really want to shell out hundreds of dollars more and pay a monthly subscription fee to have another television provider? Yes, I said hundreds of dollars, and I don't mean the cost of the console. To view live TV from the Xbox you are required to purchase ANOTHER separate device for it to work. Why would you even consider shelling out more money for something you already have anyway? Even if you didn't, DirecTV is cheaper. Or you could even subscribe you Hulu.com and watch live tv on your computer. FOR MUCH CHEAPER. You essentially have to buy another cable box if you don't have one. And if you do… what do you need the Xbox One for?

Source: [http://www.vg247.com…eparate-device/](http://www.vg247.com/2013/05/21/xbox-one-live-tv-available-in-us-only-at-launch-requires-separate-device/)

So far we've discovered that the Xbox One is not really a gaming console, at least… not a consumer friendly gaming console. It's being marketed as an all-in-one home entertainment system. Something to replace all of the other devices in your house. But there are drawbacks even to that. Put on your tin foil hats for this part folks. Take from it what you will, all I'll say is... possibilities...

The Xbox One's features will not function unless the Kinect is plugged in and active. This is not an optional piece anymore.

Source: [http://www.ign.com/a…kinect-attached](http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/05/21/xbox-one-will-not-function-without-kinect-attached)

So imagine your Kinect piece breaks? Tough luck, no more Xbox for you. But you know what's worse?

Pay attention, because this is important. The Kinect is always watching. Always listening. Even when the system is off.

Yes. One of the ways to turn the system on is to audibly say: "Xbox On" while the system is off. The Kinect, which is always on, hears you and turns it on. Now this might seem like a cool feature, but did you know Microsoft patented a feature that would allow the Kinect's camera (It's no longer just a sensor, but a camera) to spy on you for the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America?) While they may not actually do this, it is actually possible for them to do this now. It has a camera, and a microphone. The Kinect is always on. It is ALWAYS listening, ALWAYS watching.

An idea has been tossed around that by using this feature, it will allows game developers and movie produces to set a limited amount of how many people can be allowed to view the entertainment. So as a hypothetical example, you and three friends are watching a movie, which is the maximum allowed. A fourth friend enters the room and the Kinect's sensor registers the fourth individual. The movie stops and you a prompted to pay a fee so that the extra individual may also view the film. Again, that is NOT currently the case, but these are the ideas currently being tossed around with the system's current capabilities.

Source for listening: [http://www.theverge….lways-listening](http://www.theverge.com/2013/5/21/4352596/the-xbox-one-is-always-listening)

Source of spying: [http://www.extremete…ou-for-the-mpaa](http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/139706-microsofts-new-kinect-patent-goes-big-brother-will-spy-on-you-for-the-mpaa)

Now, just two more things and I'll be done here!

This isn't really a good or bad thing, but it's annoying. It also explains how they can prevent you from playing a used game if you didn't pay their fee. Xbox one no longer plays games off the discs, you HAVE to install them to the hard-drive in order to play them. I believe PS3 also has you do this (on a number of games but not always it seems), except that PS3 isn't trying to Nickle and Dime you at every corner. It also seems according to this article there is something related to the Online portion at the beginning of this post. The option is there for Developers to require the Xbox to always be online to play their particular game. Well, it seems PC gamers and console gamers have one thing in common now… DRM.

(At least pirates on PC can bypass DRM easily. Not an option for Consoles.)

Source: [http://www.theverge….e-game-installs](http://www.theverge.com/2013/5/21/4352314/xbox-one-hard-drive-game-installs)

And last but not least, another annoyance… Xbox One will not be compatible with any and all current headsets. Nope, companies will either have to make new headsets altogether specifically for the Xbox One, and they have to adhere to what Microsoft wants. Look forward to price gouging.

Source: [http://www.ign.com/a…gaming-headsets](http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/05/22/xbox-one-incompatible-with-current-gaming-headsets)

Oh, one more thing… If you have an Xbox 360, don't get rid of it. Why? Well if you want to keep playing your old 360 games you'll need it. The Xbox One isn't backwards compatible. At all. Not only that, but President of Microsoft's Xbox Division Don Mattrick insults the very notion of backwards compatibility! He calls it: "Backwards thinking."

Source: [http://www.theverge….ds-compatibilty](http://www.theverge.com/2013/5/21/4350662/new-xbox-has-no-backwards-compatibilty)

Source of insult: [http://www.polygon.c…ng-don-mattrick](http://www.polygon.com/2013/5/22/4355984/xbox-one-backward-compatibility-backwards-thinking-don-mattrick)

That is all I have to say currently folks, and I hope you took the time to read this far. I'll conclude with the following… please... PLEASE do not buy this console. Paying for this supports greedy and anti-consumer business practices. Speak with your wallet, and pass up the Xbox One. No matter what games it might have that you want, even if they are exclusive. Do the right thing and make a statement. Refuse to be nickle and dimed like this. Refuse to be seen as a mindless consumer who will buy anything tossed to them.

We won't know much else until after E3, but as it stands now, the PS4 or a decent gaming PC is the best way to go.
