Perfect Example of the Difference between The British and The Americans

Remember when Obama got voted in? There were streets filled with people from all over the country. Weeks beforehand, commoners were getting mega-excited, spouting all over at random-people-on-street interviews how excited they were and wanted their party to win.

Notice anything different over on the English side?

This is the closest vote "in living memory" as the news says. The news is going crazy about it.
Meanwhile, commoners are going "Right oh." and "Oh well." about it, catching up with the latest between getting in from a hard days labour, watching coronation street, having a cup of tea and going to bed for the next day - but actually not really paying that much attention.
Will thousands of people from all over the country flood to the capital to wave at the new Prime minister? No. Will people cry about how much win has happened, because their vote went towards the newest Prime Minister? No.

We complain that people around the world say that the English are very "Laid back" and "Unexcitable"… But we really aren't, it's true.

Why are people not that bothered? Because we aren't idiots. Whoever gets voted in, nothing will change. We will be swamped with "minorities", we will be taxed to death, we will be unemployed and we will still be lied to and never get a straight answer.

On the other hand, 80% of americans are buying the shit that ever presidential candidate is spitting out. "We will pull the troops out of afghanistan in 6 months time. We will have them home."
Six months later, "We are sending more troops in, so we can get them out quicker."

When the new Prime Minister goes in, "We will be tighter on immigration, we will lower taxes and we will get young people back to work."
Six months on..? "We have been tighter on immigration (They will probably hire twenty more patrol guards on the seafront. Great.), we have lowered taxes (By 0.001%) and we have gotten more young people back to work (Those that already have decent work experience and/or are willing to do the really **dirty** work).

So, yeah. There you have it. Government is bullshit, [/topic]

The "more" part wasn't really required… "Things change, things stay the same." :B

You just compared what our media tells you about us, said that your media is crazy as fuck, then said the English are much different than Americans. You've essentially compared what our media says about us to what you experience colloquially.

It's the media that's portraying all this out of proportion. When Obama got elected, there were people acting completely ridiculous out on the streets. That's what the media showed. It didn't show that, just like a majority of the English, most Americans were working, not caring, etc. Anyone who knows anything about politics realizes the campaigns are 95% hype.

From the same point of view, we Americans could look at your news "going crazy", and assume you Brits are all batshit crazy. Anyone sensible wouldn't trust the media to show what the average citizen is doing.

If Robin won the PM for Britain, we'd all be dead in seconds. No offence, but he'd probably launch a nuclear missile to kill everyone that isn't a pomie. ;D

On topic, Ballie is right. Your post was just the lies that your media spreads to you. It's the media, don't trust them to tell you the whole truth. Besides, isn't this like over a year old? Everyone in America hates Obama and his approval rating has dropped to below that of Bush. He has had the biggest fail in the history of any president.

Next time I'll remember to fly over and take a good look around instead, then.

It's not free healthcare; it pretty much made it so everyone has to buy healthcare from the private sector – there is no state-run healthcare, they just now made healthcare mandatory, so people who can't afford healthcare are fined for not buying it from healthcare companies.

I actually knew a person, he got a Canadian PO Box, and used that to leach free healthcare off your guys (alteast prescriptions) XD
It was like, 10 years ago though.

Dude, I'm just joking around. It would be like you mocking how Canadians say 'eh' after everything- we don't but the media claims we do.

Also, I'm just going to leave this here in the name of Canadian pride: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w119vuZVdz8
