**Introduction:**

Merrimint is a unique ORPG containing a chibi colorful world. An emphasis is put on having fun, rather than grinding. There are no base levels in Merrimint, however you will be able to make your character stronger through fighting, questing, crafts, harvesting resources, trading and exploring. There are also no classes; players can freely customize their characters including, but not limited to, hair style and colour, eye style and colour, gender, complexion and stats. With enough effort and training your character can become skilled in both melee and magic. We're the ORIGINAL online game to utilize "breeze" resources constructed by Green Raven, however we have made many many modifications to the tile-sets and have a completely custom sprite sheet. All of our hairstyles, eyes and item paperdolling is pixeled by our skilled team.

**Merrimint Features:**

**Leveling System:**

First of all there are no levels whatsoever. Characters will gradually become stronger by gaining EXP through fighting, questing, crafts, harvesting resources, trading and exploring the world. You can then spend you accumulated EXP points to obtain the stats you want. The higher your stat value, the more EXP is required to level it up.

**Crafts System:**

Crafts are the trade skills of Merrimint. These skills can be leveled up, with a higher craft level you have a greater chance of successfully completing crafts. Crafts will also give EXP and thus will ultimately better your character. Some of the Crafts include:

Peace of Mind (Fishing)
Sense of Taste (Cooking)
Black Lungs (Mining)
Heart of Steel (Forging/Blacksmithing)
Green Thumb (Farming)
Dusty Palms (Woodcutting/Fletching/Carpentry)
Way With Words (Writing/Spell Book Creation)

**Passive Skills:**
Passive skills are skills that are automatically activated. Every character has the same passive skills. These skills can be leveled up by using different types of weapons. With a higher skill level, you will do more damage with that type of weapon.
Some of the passive skills include:

-Melee-
Swordplay (The higher the level the more damage done with a Sword)
Pack Light (The higher the level the more damage done with a Dagger)
Heavy Shoulder (The higher the level the more damage done with an Axe)
Titan Grip (The higher the level the more damage done with a Spear/Lance)
Pull Back (The higher the level the more damage done with a Bow/Crossbow/Bowgun)
Knuckle Bust (The higher the level the more damage done with a Knuckle/Claw)
Rhythm (The higher the level the more damage done with an Instrument)

-Magic-
Flame Aura (The higher the level the more damage done with Fire type spells)
Aqua Aura(The higher the level the more damage done with Water/Ice type spells)
Spark Aura (The higher the level the more damage done with Electric type spells)
Nature Aura (The higher the level the more damage done with Earth type spells)
Sacred Aura (The higher the level the more you are able to heal yourself and others, and damage the undead with Holy type spells)
Anti Aura (The higher the level the more damage done with Dark type spells)

**Active Skills:**

Active Skills can be used through skill books. They cannot be leveled. However you can equip/unequip at anytime to change your current active skill list. Active skills are used in battle. They can do a numerous amount of things from: healing your character/party, damaging an enemy, temporarily switching/raising you or your party's stats, and many other things. Active skills can be used at the cost of Magic Points. Unlike most games all active skills will revolve around YOUR character. There will be no pointing and clicking, as you wait for your enemy to die. Instead skills will use a sort of grid system.

Possible Instrument type skill:

**Card System:**

Cards can be obtained by killing monsters. Each monster drops their own unique card. Every card has a unique ability, some with characteristics from the monster that dropped it. You can equip these cards to customize your character even further. However card drops are a bit rare to find, but if you manage to find three of the same card you can form a deck which will give you double the effects of the original card.

**Bestiary System:**

The Bestiary system allows players to view their fighting history. You will be able to see how many times you have killed a certain monster. You will also be able to view the monster's hit points, description, skills, and what it has dropped so far.

**Equipmint Points (EQP):**

Each piece of equipmint has a certain equipmint point value. For instance, Padded Armor has a EQP of 2, while Steel Armor has a EQP of 5\. The maximum equipmint points a player has depends in what title the player currently has equipped.

Character samples:

**Title System:**

All players start out with the "Newcomer" title. Players can earn additional titles through quests, or certain events such as achieving a certain level in crafting, defeating a monster a certain amount of times, etc. There are many different titles that players need to discover on their own. Players can pick which title they want to represent them, and can equip any title they have. Having a title equipped will give you a certain amount of maximum Equipmint Points (EQP) as well as a stat boost. Some titles grant a higher stat boost, while other grant a higher amount of max EQP. When a player changes his/her title all of their equipmint is immediately unequipped due to change of max EQP.

Having the "Dragon Slayer" title equipped could give a stat boost of +2 Strength, +2 Defense, +1 Vitality, +1 Stamina, +2 Energy and 16 max EQP.

Players would be able to obtain multiple titles, and be able to "equip" any title they choose. For example my title would be Dragon Slayer, but I could also have obtained titles such as: Newcomer, Slime King, Elite Spellcaster. Each of those titles would give different stat boosts and a different amount of max EQP.

Quests will also have a feature that upon completion it would grant a player a certain title. So if I did a quest for the NPC Narius, I would return to him and receive the title "Friend of Narius" Only certain quests will grant titles.

**Development Features:**
Merrimint includes many different development features. All of these expand the game beyond anything that any Mirage based game has achieved.

More Dynamic Npc Battles
![](http://nzdpvw.bay.livefilestore.com/y1plF_nd2ZeyqOxVnX62ZyiOsbuhvt8EL6rNSEFpm-znsWdM5lf3l23smQHFEoLBlAZOFiCEVvfbwCBwWS5Z-N5qpR0FUCgOn5M/mm_preview2.png?psid=1)
Beyond the Npc vs Npc combat players can battle with Npcs on a higher level. Npcs are able to block players attacks, attempt to escape and deal critical damage to the player. In addition to this Npcs are able to use healing items as well. The rewards are also far more interesting. With gold being more integrated Npcs can drop currency, weapons, armours and other various items. This creates a far more interesting battle scenario than what is included in any Mirage based games today.

A Slick UI

Merrimint touts a very slick user interface. The idea was to create something that users could use easily, was compact and didn't interfere with the play area.

Swimming
![](http://nzdpvw.bay.livefilestore.com/y1pshDRQRbcrYhErUESNdy-DOkLH7xFhWwrius1oAAP99Hk8hUXJiYipDcT7Jxq-GbXpbXJwt_zQLEutqygiDIM3jlrdf4ke16G/swimming.png?psid=1)
Why stick to the land when you can go into the sea? Merrimint allows players to enter the water in certain areas. This opens a plethora of new quest opportunities and hidden environments.

Proper Currency
Mirage has always used the first item as it's global currency item. Merrimints currency is stored on the character separate from the items. Doing this allows for much easier management of gold within the source code and allows for more opportunities in the future of development.

Proper Interaction System
Npcs in Merrimint can all be interacted with. Friendly, guards, shop keepers, bank managers and quest givers all have icons showing what you're looking for. When in range you can activate their uses. Having the ability to walk up to a shop keeper or bank manager and clicking on them to interact brings a more immersion into the game. This screenshot shows three Npcs. In theory, the bottom Npc displaying the "…" is out of range. The other two Npcs (shop keeper and banker) are in range and can be interacted with. You must be within 2 tiles of the Npc to interact with it.

Merrimint will have many more features, we aim to make a unique game, with ideas that are original and some that have been modified from other great games.

**Customization:**

You will be able to control many aspects of your character, from gender, hairstyle, hair color, complexion, clothing/armors, headgear, weapons, and off-hand equipmint. The chances that you're character will be the same as another in the game is extremely unlikely.

Hair choices:

Merrimint has been in slow progress, so far as to halting progress for months, but recently the work rate has been increasing. We are currently offering development testing, not 24/7, as crashes still seem to occur, but Anthony is working hard to level it out.

Alot of Hikaru's section of this thread is outdated, the RMVX generator hairs are old along with their palettes and the base. The features will probably stay intact, along with new additions from Anthony.

EO is an amazing engine, and we're glad to be using it.

Thanks for all the positive feedback :)

I have been debating the menu a little bit. It is collapsible so you're only left with the menu icon (leaf) and nothing else. Quick keys will be inserted as well to allow quick access to inventory, skills, quest log etc.

As Toranos said lots of it is Hikarus wording. I did do quite a bit of updating to his post and added a lot more information. I have to confess that a few features are not yet implemented. I assume this is to be expected as it's a WIP.. However.. lots of the features are working, even if they are a bit unpolished at the moment. You're all free to pop onto the test server and have a look around. Nothing overly exciting as it's just mostly Toranos and I working on finding bugs and testing out updated graphic work.

Quick screenshot of the character creation form. Custom vitals are currently not working but that's what I'll be doing today.

May I suggest placing the body, hair and eyes together to form one overall character. It might be easier to see what your character will look like then.

I'm going to be doing exactly that :)

I'd like to just updated everyone, specifically the moderators. Merrimint isn't exactly using EO any more. I ended up opening VB and starting an entirely new project. There is a lot of code ripped from EO, however, plenty of the direct x code and various other things. It's all still based around the EO source I just was getting frustrated with some of the things Robin had done XD. Although I love some of the other things he's done haha.

So basically I took code from various sources, Robins, Jacobs and my own to create the engine Merrimint is now using. So far it's been a step backwards in features but as for speed it's a huge step forward. Whether the moderators want to leave the topic in this section or move it to another is up the them. Hoping to have everything back near what it was by Sunday.

Also, we are now hiring another pixel artist. Toranos has become quite busy with school and life, basically you'll just be working on various paper doll items, hairstyles and other such things.

Huge update list to come and more screen shots in the coming week!
