Metro Menu for Windows 8

Exception

[background=rgb(246, 250, 251)]Made for Windows 8, in VB.NET, Metro Menu is designed to function in a non-invasive means. While it does mean you do have to do a small amount to get it to work, you can easily play around with it without fear of playing around with Windows.[/background]

[background=rgb(246, 250, 251)]It's quite simple. You download the program, stick it anywhere you like, right click it, click "Pin To Taskbar", and that's it! From there, you can simulate your loved start menu, without removing the charms should you want it. It's designed to fit in, yet actually function intuitively.[/background]

Funnily enough, it actually functions perfectly fine on Windows Vista and 7, and may work on XP. Obviously, it's use there is redundant. xD

Well, was it designed to use basic paint colors that don't work with each other instead of spending a minute on picking something easier on the eye with less saturation and button backgrounds that would make it easier to read the white font? Because it sure does look like it was.

From a 100% design perspective, as I have nothing to do with programming anything outside of Action Script - I wouldn't download your application even if I needed one of those, because the demo you showed looks bad… and it would honestly take a minute to pick colors that don't seem to be interested in sexually assaulting my eye sockets. I would find another similar application (and I'm sure I would have a decent number to browse from) that would look more attractive.

Proceed to feel bad about it. Or don't. That is entirely up to you.

And on this optimistic note - I would like to return from my month-long, someone's period induced exile. I love you Marsh. Don't let them tell you I don't.

Yeah, I won't feel bad. Either use it or don't, it doesn't really affect me if you don't.

> -snip-

Blame Metro. How about I make an update where you can select the colours from the Metro scheme? ![:P](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png)

To keep it small, I used the Segoe UI Symbol font instead of images. If you don't have it installed, then that's why they appear square. (Note to self: check for Segoe UI Symbol through code to get rid of the symbols if it's not installed.)

Nah, not as fun.

I can give all the credit he deserves for what he did. I simply deliver messages in a rude manner. It's what I do.

Point was, so many people refuse to realize - living in a world where children learn to recognize global syndicate logos before they learn the alphabet, and where most of the time your eyes are open, there's at least one advertisement, logo or commercial symbol in your sight - if you fail to present your idea or yourself - it is inevitable that you will be undervalued.

And instead of acting all high and mighty - admit, you used standard paint palette colors and didn't even take ten seconds to think about if white on green looks clear.

Basically, the only real issue is that the colours aren't very easy on the eye and could do with being changed.

There you go, I've summarised all your female-dogging in one sentence. Happy days. ![:D](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.png)

So, I've been busy making a scheme selector. You right-click the button, and you can change the colour to what you want. It's also saved.

The scheme displays the default Metro scheme, and also has a colour dialogue for those who dislike Metro's scheme. ![:P](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png)

New version!

![](http://services.glaciate.net/file_host/host/25195c48e9db44315d2a55c4519aff28.png)

It includes the palette change, the ability to customise tiles, a check for whether you have Segoe UI Symbols installed (If not, it simply gets rid of the icons.) and a task manager button.

> Pretty cool. Customizable in VB. Only problem is that I don't have Windows 8\. T.T

That's fine, it actually functions on WinXP, albeit being arbitrary. :'p

> tried it on windows 7 idk if its a bug but after i would click off it. it close the whole app for it . lols

It's intended to emulate the start menu, so yes, that is intentional. :'p

Anyway, update~ http://glaciate.net/showthread.php?tid=134
