jcsnider
Looks simple but not bad. What language are you programming this in?
JohnPony
> Looks simple but not bad. What language are you programming this in?Hi, my name is John, I use C#.:PRegarding its simplicity, I've been working on this for about 2 days thus far (not very long on each day either), so there's still a ton of progress to be made.Give it a month or so and I'll have something very polished to show you guys. Tonight, there shall be cameras!
jcsnider
Meh, I shoulda guessed but I am tired, give me a break XD.Anyways best of luck and have fun with the camera(s)!

The only problem is that I haven't really come up with a good maximum size.
Dark Crusade
Whatever algorithm your using for the dungeon map generator is uninspiring and clunky. I'd love to see you improve it so rooms and corridors are more defined and the dungeon looks more fun to explore.

I think that the maps look much better when they're allowed to grow outside the bounds of the screen. If you want an older example of the algorithm working with a very large amount of space, this will well suit the job:![](http://i.imgur.com/kO3ekLb.png)
Sealbreaker
Is the red or the blue part the generated area? Anyhow, it does indeed look quite boring. Too much of large open fields as it seems.-seal

There are still many factors that will need to be considered such as lava, ice, floors that break, huge monsters, etc.
Exception
Your algorithm is perfect and suitable for landmass. Not so for dungeons.
Richy420Rich
I actually like his algorithm in the dungeons. This algorithm is great (if) there will be detailing ability added to his gen, top that with monsters. Its potential to be the best map gen if he goes all the way with it. Joyce
Honestly the simplicity suits the graphics style. It seems to resemble older games a good bit. :)
JohnPony
I might be able to have a video or a test client out for you guys tonight. The maps certainly have a different feel now that they're able to grow to their full potential. Thanks for the critique, guys. I will certainly work on fixing everything that you guys have pointed out. Edit:![](http://i.imgur.com/ZMvQeVE.png)

kibbelz
Nicely put Dr.House. You can clearly see the best in a project, especially one written from scratch, showing originality to branch away.
Dr.House
What I see right now is pretty boring, didn't say it has no potential becoming something better.
JohnPony
> What I see right now is pretty boring, didn't say it has no potential becoming something better.Yeah, I think I'm going to go do a bit of research on some actual dungeon algorithms now. I have to admit that I'm not really too happy with the vast empty spaces either.Off to study!
Dark Crusade
Donjon's dungeon generator for D&D games has an incredibly good algorithm and flexibility/customisation. Maybe some of it's options can inspire you. Here is a map I generated-Square layout, huge size, scattered and large rooms, errant corridors.![](http://eclipseorigins.com/community/filehost/99a491515c0ad0625bb270a7682d4af2.png)And here is a cavernous one I generated as well to give you some ideas.![](http://eclipseorigins.com/community/filehost/99c707d0ec79b4bbb7415c36124b0799.png)[http://donjon.bin.sh/fantasy/dungeon/](http://donjon.bin.sh/fantasy/dungeon/)
kibbelz
I agree, I used one of those algorithms for my random dungeon system. (With some modifications.)@Dr.House - Next time don't merely state 'its boring' without even any reasons nor suggestions of improvement.
JohnPony
I don't know. To be honest, after seeing the dungeons that Kreator posted, I didn't really like them too much.Just a small update (interface related):![](http://i.imgur.com/56vcas1.png)

(With some modifications.)> > > > @Dr.House - Next time don't merely state 'its boring' without even any reasons nor suggestions of improvement.I say what I want because that's what is there to see, when he will post soon something better I'll post another message saying how it is.There is nothing to suggest, they know what to do, when someone says it's boring, he agreed because let's look at what he posted, there were so many to suggest, but hey it's not my game, my ideas might be different from what he wants to achieve, and visually is boring, it's pretty obvious if you have eyes to see.Next time don't try to argue with me, you will fail again.Kibbelz's replyDefine: 'fail again'. You're entire existance Dr.House on eclipse is just to bash other people's projects. It disgusts me. Agreed, many projects are pretty bad. This is a WIP, All games are pretty boring here. No need to state the obvious. You proclaim that there is nothing to suggest, suggest reasons to make it less boring. I don't see you getting off your lazy * and making a project, Or are you really infact bad at game development. Anyone can sit at the sidelines and bash, but I have not seen anything from you, ever. Come back when you actually have some experience. The irony here is that you're the failure Dr.House and because of that you feel the need to bash everyone elses attempts. I will be interested in your response. Take this to private messages though since this is about General's and Murdoc's game, not about you having a little hissy fit because you can't compare to what they've done.
