Bret
I like the concept, but I can't figure out what the change in color represents. Like: is it elevation change? terrain change? state borders?
ceriux
i think it's elevation most states dont circle another state, no matter how large they are. look at the top of the map if it were states, the darker one near the top would almost engulf the lighter one. Grizzy
Yeah its supposed to be elevation. thats why I did it in the sea as well.. :P But thats the part I thought looked kinda funny.New post tho. Anyone got any pointers on why this building looks so funny :P Last time I made a building and a bunch of gfx they told me my perspective was different on to many things so I just started over. As in my building had different views than my trees. Some things were flatter than others. :PAnyways I don't know if this building looks to flat or what. The perspective I'm going for is like that of Nexustk's.![](http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/7761/map1a.png)Here I tried to edit it to make it not look so flat.![](http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/3644/house1r.png)
Helpmeplz
Hmm…You might have to start over. You're doing it wrong, the building is like flat down like the floor. You'll need to make it 'pop out' like RMXP or Pokemon for example.
Grizzy
this a little better? I've not done near any of the shading yet tho.![](http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/4962/house1u.png)Map Updated. Those are supposed to be small trees not full grown ones. Having trouble with shading them too.![](http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/8703/map1zx.png)
Joyce
The back end of your building is square, yet the roof is slanted at the front..? Might want to fix that. :)
dthnote801
Other then what Yami just pointed out, try making the water look more fluid? Maybe that's not the best word for it but, it doesn't look like a regular body of water, even for it's size. Draken
yes i agree the back is to squared, also try adding a shadow to it and the trees this way they dont look so flat. And the water instead of just a solid blue add a few spots that "shines" in the sun, thats a lighter color blue, this way it will look more like water

Grizzy
I tried to listen to everything everyone said.. I think this is a little better.. (Not the order of how the map will go or even close to the size. Just trying to show what I've got.)![](http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/4002/map1f.png)I posted the newest one back at the top with updated gfx. Now those are some trees!! 0_oYour trees need leaves, and a better light source. Pillow shading is looked down on around these parts. If those are bushes (in front of the house) you need to try to not make them look "so run over."Regarding the water, the skim of climax in the middle needs to go. Add a different design to make it look more watery. (Maybe show the bottom of the lake/pool?) And the transitions around the water need to be angled differently. From the rest of your tiles, you need to shift the transitions around the water to match how you are viewing the rest of the map.Overall, its a good start! I like the cartooness of the graphics and the grass is quite cute. Just work on the flowers some so they don't look like christmas lights.Good job! Grizzy
I loosely based them off of Link to the Past Tree's because every time I tried to make them, they seemed to look really flat. And I took out the bushes and have been trying to redo them if you looked at the newest top map I posted. I did use pillow shading tho, I struggle a lot with tree & shrubbery I've noticed. Not sure what you mean by shifting the water tho? Like, put more edge around it to make it like at the front to make the angle look the same as everything else? Thats just a guess.
shwamshwam1
@AmSamurai:> Pillow shading is looked down on around these parts.yea, trye and get a source of light from somewhere, like the top left corner, and then focus the shading around that. Bc thats what I've been doing.
Anna Comnena
Grass patterns and flowers are way way too repetitive. Also on the trees the light source isn't high noon, it's noon at the artic circle in winter. The trees need more lighting at the top, that would make them look less pillow shaded as well. Also the shapes of the tree trunks are a little too basic (and they are pretty big); and some light texturing of the tree foliage would improve it as well. Grizzy
Personally, I like the trees shape, for the most part. It goes with what look I'm going for. The shading on it I know is very bad. As with my bushes. I really struggle with leaves and making them look how I want or even decent in any way for that matter. How would this gate look? I'm gonna have it going all the way around one of the cities in my game.![](http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/1889/gate1.png)
Chief
the line art for the wall is pretty great, but its just not good otherwise.
Grizzy
Lol heartbreak. I was really proud of it. Is it just the shape in general or the shading bc fixing the shading is Np.
Lukin
If it was high noon and your trees look like that, wouldn't your perspective be exactly the top? I got a feeling you're not going for GTA2 style here, since we can see the sides of things. And for the castle, the walls feel very repetitive. try making different patterns with the stones, you don't need to have it symmetrical all the time. Grizzy
Its supposed to be a gate.. not a castle. And your telling me I can't do high noon if I can see the fronts and sides of things?? But thnx, I'm working on the wayy now. I need to know if the gate looks atleast okay.
Chief
the perspective is great, but the coloring, and shading, and the brick pattern, just isnt good. but the shape/line art is pretty great, so you're well on your way.

I need to know if the gate looks atleast okay. What I am saying is that if you had high noon as the light source, you would not have shadows that makes it look like the light was from the front and not the top. The top part of your trees, should be the place with the highlights. if your trees are not just spray painted onto the grass.Made a 5 min edit to show you what I mean. High noon should be something like this. ![](http://i377.photobucket.com/albums/oo216/LukinT1/treefix.png)
