magezhilo
This is my first attempt at actually spriting and I think I did pretty good. Criticism is much appreciated. Unfortunately, I can't map with this tileset until I get Project Vertigo to work. :icon_crap:Rate : x/10Old:[![](http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/9012/screenshot8lx.png)](http://img33.imageshack.us/i/screenshot8lx.png/)New:[![](http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/1173/screenshot2b.png)](http://img444.imageshack.us/i/screenshot2b.png/)Teleporter:[![](http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/9638/teleport.png)](http://img30.imageshack.us/i/teleport.png/)

DarkSpine
This is very very good for a first time!As time goes on, I would love to see more from you, I bet you will become a very good GFX artist =)For a first timer: 8.5/10-Spechno
magezhilo
Thanks guys I really appreciate it. I'm working on a tree for it now and should be finished soon.
Dark Crusade
Looks absolutely bad in every way possible. You've demonstrated not a single technique or quality of a pixel artist, and anyone who rated ABOVE 1/10 for them is a jerk off.0/
magezhilo
cool…Can you explain how it's bad please?Btw, this is my first time trying pixel art so that would explain why I didn't demonstrate any techniques as a pixel artist. DarkSpine
He posted this as his first tileset, I've seen a lot crappier things, for a first, the shape of the objects are very well done, no there is not hardly any shading, but 0/10? Then what would a whole bunch of scribbles be to you?(Removed a crappy part of the post before even posting it)Here are a few things I would say you should improve on Wraith:-Shading, it's REALLY important to shade your images with at least 5-6 shades of a color, usually not more because it begins to look like a gradient at above 100 colors, or above 100 shades of a color.-Shaping, the stuff under the grass on the platforms is a bit too…plain, try making it actually have some texture and more pixel work, rather than just being circles.Other than that, I do say it is a good job. Also, I do not mean to start any wars, as that would be stupid.-SpechnoWarning - while you were typing a new reply has been posted. You may wish to review your post.Above I have a few things that would improve your pixel art, not all the things, but some of them.
magezhilo
Thank you :azn:.About the shading, I know it's not in-depth and that was what I was going for is for it to be very simple and smooth looking. However, the circles I just saw it was blank and thought it needed something to fill it in so I guess I can add some other things in also.Update:Added a tree! DarkSpine
The tree seems quite a bit…lopsided, and the shading is a bit too dramatic, you should at least stick another shade in there so it isn't just from one color to the next, also it looks as if you just drew this with a paintbrush in something like paint xDTo rate the tree, I give it 4/10, it needs quite a bit of work.-Spechno
magezhilo
lol, sorry to say, but I am using paint XD. And I totally agree with the tree thing. I didn't really like the outcome, but I thought I should show it anyway for progress.
DarkSpine
Here are some better graphic editing programs:[http://gimp.org](http://gimp.org)[http://getpaint.net](http://getpaint.net)And trees and other tall things are usually the hardest things, unless they're what you're best at. Dark Crusade
@Wraith:> lol, sorry to say, but I am using paintDon't be sorry, paint is all you need and all I use for pixel art. In all truth theres very little feedback I can give you to help you improve because you wouldn't understand it. You should start with the very basics. Work out your lineart, and selecting a palette. oolkingloo
Get the better version of MS paint, it works well for pixel art. Spechno already posted a link to it, getpaint.net. Like he also mentioned trees need some work, the platforms aren't spectacular, but that's not to say they're bad either. IMO, the platforms could use some shading, at least the top where your elements for the level (grass, snow, ect.) are.
Dark Crusade
No don't use Paint.NET. All the pros use paint.
magezhilo
I tried Paint.NET and it seemed ok. I'll probably only use it to change colors and stuff. I will try at the tree tomorrow most likely.*Update*-Houses-Doors-Windows-Mailboxes

mrmiguu
I think the mock-up looks good. Very cartoony and it has an interesting style. Things can always use improvement but I think you're on the right track.
Anna Comnena
I like it. Seeing the mock-up map I understand what those random spot tiles are, and they do help a lot to throw in some texture to the "walls". :)The only thing I don't really like is the edges are a little boxed. Maybe some curvature at the side edges would help?
