abhi2011
Is using the word 'Noob' offesinve? And doesn't newbie mean the exact same thing as noob?
Dr.House
Newbie does not equal Noob.If it's new on something or somewhere, it's called a Newbie. (Forum Newbie, Game Newbie, etc.)If it's and annoying begger, spammer, and crap factory, it's called a Noob, not only he is just not good at what he is trying to do, but is also very irritating.(Game Noob, Forum Noob, etc.)Calling a person "Noob" and that person is obviously just new, means you're the Noob.Call someone a "Noob" only if you're sure, or call it anyways, if you're a jerk. Dash
Noob to me is more of a condescending version of Newbie, could also roll with House's post.
Elihu
People seem to abuse that word: noob. "Sword NOOB" "Weak NOOB" It's just a hit to you for no reason, makes no sense and the people that say it are just bitching.
XXGameMasterxXx
I would never call anyone a newb or n00b. It hurts my feelings when people call me it, so I won't call them that.

hedgy
When I heard the word for the first time and asked what it ment, it was told me it's simply another word for 'newbie'.I never found it a very offensive word actually. I saw plenty people calling theirselves a noob. But I guess I was wrong.
azkanan
It's the new generic "Gay" insult.
Solstice
You're not wrong guy, it's just people like to overthink these things, like the reason for my name is apparently because I have a superiority complex.
Guest
Of course using the word "noob" is offensive. You call the idiot you just killed a noob, or the dude you've been fighting verbally with for the past hour about some stupid topic you call him a "noob" too. Noob is offensive, its used to tell someone they don't know what they are doing, which means they are typically bad. Now, that being said, "newbie" is okay. Thats someone who is new and hasn't had enough time or experience yet and is still figuring out the game. A noob is someone whos been playing the game for some time and still just blatantly sucks. azkanan
I wouldn't say "Noob" is **offensive** per-se… Just not a nice thing to say. Offensive is telling somebody it's their fault that their best friend just died of cancer. I did that once. :/
SawQuart
It's only offensive if you take offense.

abhi2011
Why not just use everything as 1 word. ![:P](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png) Well that clears stuff out as well. Matt
As mentioned previously, it depends on the context. Newbie seems to be received better than Noob though, so I tend to use that when appropriate. I try to use "new members" as often as possible.
