Cel-shaded RMXP tilesets (Opinions, please ;D)

Well, I've finished them now, and like I've said, they ARE RMXP, so expect nothing entirely special.

These tilesets are…progressive, so as I use them in my maps, I'll be constantly changing them.

Have fun using them ;D.
Note; last time I checked, these were 33MB in total...

Finished re-uploading them ;D.

I used a couple of effects in Paint.Net.

I used a massive tilesheet (The thing was about 45000px long…)
and I used the "Ink sketch" effect, and played around with the colours, and outlines.

Otherwise, I didn't really do much work, but I had to fix a couple of errors, like the grass, water and sand.

I'm making a Cel-shade ORPG, and now that I've finished the graphical side, pretty much, I can get on with it.

Sorry but in my opinion it looks horrible. What's the point in "cel-shading" 2D graphics anyway - cel-shading was made to make 3D graphics look more like drawn by hand instead of models? RMXP graphics are overused and annoying enough without making them look bad with bunch of PS effects…

btw. look I just cel-shaded this scrinshot:

amidoinitright? With a Poster Edge filter and sharpen mask? 2 minutes in Photoshoop?

I love the style! I think if anyone were to make a windwaker MMO haha not that they could get away with it…they should use your method!!!  ;)

I love GFX when they almost have a hand-drawn appearance! It reminds me of Okami..

Well… if you draw like that...

@Robin:

> That's not cell-shading. That's just sharpening them in Photoshop. I suggest you go read up on cell-shading.

If this was aimed at me, already have, thank you.
So, just because it was made by playing around with the Ink-Sketch effect, they can't be seen as cel-shaded?

Robin, being entirely honest, I don't care about your opinion on how it was made, I just want your opinion on how you like/dislike it, and what you think can be done to help me improve it.

Kusy, thank you for the help. -_-'.

Thanks, skevsama C:

Well, I see them as cel-shaded.

And, seeing as you want me to look it up so much…

**"Cel-shaded animation (also known as Cel shading or Toon shading) is a type of non-photorealistic rendering designed to make computer graphics appear to be hand-drawn."**
Look, nobody cares how it's made, it clearly says "To make computer graphics appear to be hand-drawn", which, Ink Sketch counts under. There's nothing there saying I couldn't use Ink-Sketch, to me, they appear drawn. [/serious]

Oh, and for an added research bonus ;p.: (From Celshader.com)
**"Folks who use the incorrect spelling often don't know enough about cel animation"** [/not serious]

Robin is 100% correct on this. Tto me.. the look computer rendered to look sloppy. I wouldn't call them Cel-Shaded.

But.. the piano tile.. FUCKING BEAUTIFUL

Since checked the definition of cel-shading from Wikipedia, now do the same with "**rendering**" in the context of computer graphics.

And being absolutely serious. It doesn't look any better than the regular RMXP grahics. It's an eyesore and looks just like a really bad bad quality RMXP tileset, nothing more.

Kusy, Well, that's because they technically ARE worser quality RMXP tiles, After all, I've removed a lot of colour shades from them, and the outlines…

ICT, I guess I can agree that Robin is right about the Ink Sketch thing, but I'm denying the fact that it wouldn't be classed as Cel-shaded.

Hopefully, after a while, they'll look much better, when I go over them. I've already made a few changes, and hope to make more, to the point you can't see they're RMXP.

I'll lock this for now, but when I'm completely sure I've made my changes that I wanted, I'll bring them back ;D.
