Egon
![](http://i.imgur.com/MnzkPl.jpg)11"x14"I still have quite a ways to go before I can call it finished, but I'm happy with how its's turning out so far. This is just the beginning of the base pencil layer.

Egon
Thanks guys. I worked on it a little bit more tonight. I couldn't find my camera so I had to use my terrible phone.![](http://i.imgur.com/ZWbOK.jpg)All I have to do now is touch up a few of the wrinkles to make them look a little more wrinkly, black out pretty much all of the left side/bottom and then use a thin eraser to bring out the white hair. After that hard dark shadows.

fernz123
Do you have any way of scanning this onto your computer, I would like to see it in higher quality.
Egon
My scanner bed is a bit too small for this. It has a maximum size of 8.5" x 11.7" and this drawing is 11x14\. I guess I could always scan it in two halves and join them together though.
Stein
Looks neat, I did read most of your text in Deckard Cain's voice though.
Egon
That is one of the best voices, in my book. So please, stay a while and listen.![](http://i.imgur.com/UIrLkl.jpg)I mostly finished up the charcoal layer. Still have to smooth out some rough edges and the shading on the face. After that I get to use the edge of a small eraser and remove the charcoal to bring out the hair.Edit:I think I'm done with it for tonight. I need to get a finer eraser.![](http://i.imgur.com/AUJSul.jpg)

Egon
Alright guys. I think I'm done with it. I might feel like coming back a bit later and adding a bit of color to it, but we'll see. I scanned it in two pieces so you could get a clearer picture.![](http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7083/7292937818_e883ca5f46.jpg)If you want a larger size click here: [http://www.flickr.com/photos/maxfrear/7292937818/sizes/m/in/photostream/](http://www.flickr.com/photos/maxfrear/7292937818/sizes/m/in/photostream/)I think it turned out really nicely for my first photorealism experiment. Jeff
Looks great, but if you want photorealism then try to blend the shading a bit more.

Kusy
Don't do (so called) photorealism because you'll end up like on of those faggots working a month on one sketch, thinking that what they just wasted time on is worth anything, because it closely resembles a photo they were copying. If I want a photo - I use a camera. If I want to copy that photo I use a photocopier.
Chief
Oh shit, its kusy. Also, I disagree. Also, its a good drawing. Draw something not-real though. Use those skills to draw something that doesnt exist. After all, what good is drawing if you only draw things you could look at already? I guess I do agree with Kusy then. shiiiiiiit. Kusy
It's not a matter of the drawing being good or bad. Drawing from photos if bad in general because you are not learning anything new except for copying. You are not learning how to capture something on your drawing - someone already did it when making the photo. While drawing from a model requires you to observe practically everything around it, redrawing photos is more or less worthless for you in the big picture. Seriously. Stop or you'll end up like those freaky bitches redrawing Tokio Hotel photos. If you reach near-photorealism while actually drawing something material - that would be a neat feat. Egon
I think you can learn a lot just from trying to draw a picture. I had to do stuff I've never done before while drawing that face. Photorealism or not, I'm just happy it's some form of realism. While a model would be fantastic to have, pictures do nicely when a model isn't around.Edit:This is my new subject.![](http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m4zch4dUjf1qgdjb5o1_500.jpg)
