Pazuzu
Hye! I'm not a newb but i rarely post in this forum. i have been lurking in this forum as year and a half now. the reason i have been wandering around in this forum and other gamedev websites is to learn about game development. I concluded that this forum is the best forum in the WWWÂ ;)Okey! lets end the intro. I'm posting this post because I had been developing a custom version of eclipse. So it is a good thing! Well it is a good thing but It has a slight problem.I have develop a 3D version of eclipse. You read it right, 3D Eclipse and it is near its completion. The dilemma that I'm having right now is about the consequences that would happen if i post my custom version in this forum. Will someone answer my doubt?TQ~

uXai
Depends what you post. If you post the source files, yes it will be ripped and your work will be shared upon 40,000+ and counting individuals. However, you can post your client and let them come play on your server. All they will be able to do is use your graphics. Those are the consequences that would/probably will occur if you post it. Pazuzu
It is already 60% complete. I just need to code the physic and it will be done in two week.May I ask, is it legal to claim the engine as my own since i ripped more than half the code from eclipse?

lcarens
@Captain:> Eclipse i open sorce so it's legal.Open-Source does not make it public domain. There are licenses that everything can be categorized under, and I believe one of those licenses is 'open-source for educational purposes only'. JohnPony
Ewww 3D in Visual Basic 6?Yep, even if he did pull it off it would be so limited and buggy it would be pointless to use, if you want a 3d engine look into C++

At least he's doing it; it might be better in C++, I agree, but it's good nonetheless.

If his intentions are true, and those aren't just photo shopped images he is showing off. Then he is wasting his time, it would be better off spent recreating a separate engine in a language fit for 3d. On top of that, the majority of people in this community aren't ready for 3d. Half of them cannot even work with D3D8 + simple 2d textures.
