Imagine what a video game will be like in 1000 years.. and then make it.

Actually no I think it is 100% possible. I've read enough books on AI to know that it is ![:P](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png).

It's not the AI that's the problem, it's the whole concept. They keep mentioning all of these options and gameplay styles… which each have to be programmed individually. If it's going to be anything like what the concept says, they'd need A) some freaking insane servers to host that crap on ![B)](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.png) hundreds of knowledgeable programmers who are 100% organized C) hundreds of artists to make all those models for literally *everything* in the universe like they said.

This is probably just some artist with no idea about game development or computer limitations. I mean, everyone wants a game like this. Do I think the guy who made this video with no demo can do it? Nope.

Edit:

After reading what you said again, Sek, I'm not sure if you were being serious or not. Blargh. My point stands.

Signed up for this when they first launched the project. Found it on Reddit and thought it was pretty funny that they would try and attempt it. It's been around 2 or 3 months since I signed up and they just sent out an email last night about a "trail type video" they're going to be putting out of the engine, the game, etc.

Their donation system and referral system is pretty sweet from what they said. I have hope for this game, and it'll probably be released in a long time.

> "This video is going to cover the project more in-depth, and will include a few of the technical demos that we've put together to show you some of the progress that has been made so far. At the same time we will be releasing an article that goes into extensive details about the project and answers many of the questions that have come about since the concept-video's initial release."

Speaking of this, I was actually in their IRC today.. I asked a few questions and got a few answers. It's really neat to see what they've got working. ![:P](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png)

I just don't see this as being possible, perhaps something on a much lower scale than they're proposing my come out.

Just think about the effort you would nee to put into something like this, they're trying to not only mirror our planet, but our entire universe. They're trying to replicate the growth and development of mankind, something scientists are still studying.

If they were to truly complete a project as they're advertising, they'd damn well win a Nobel Prize for it. There'd be nothing in comparison to it in the CS field, it'd be an astounding achievement.

This is the team that in my opinion would be required for the completion of said project.

Physicists, Biologists, Historians, Computer Science Specialists (Broad spectrum, but you all should get the idea), Psychologists, Political Scientists, Engineers (Probably could fit in with CS).

Now of course I've probably looked at this project in the wrong way, I'm sure the presentation was just an exaggerated summery of what they _wish_ their game would turn out to be, but we all of course know that it was made merely for the sake of gaining supporters, and anyone with half of a brain should know that this is rather improbable simulator for the foreseeable future.

tl;dr

Project is exaggerated, improbable that this would ever reach completion, however I could foresee a scaled down version reaching completion.

GP

This reminds me a lot of the overpromising that Fable did, to be honest. It's just not possible to have high quality gameplay in so many areas. They're literally making at least half a dozen AAA titles and merging them together. Plus the fact that every player will expect to be able to be king over an empire and no one will ever me the footman in the army. Plus, if it's realistic, how do you handle simple things like death? /shrug.

Errr.. once they start releasing their "betas" and "testing" releases, then I'll start _believing_ them. It's still cool to read about how it could come to together. Who knows what this will end up to be..

but dunt u want wow, eve, age of empires, n leik evrthng else!!!?!??!

Seriously. This *could* be attempted more realistically in 2D, but the fact that they were showing 3D content in their concept video is… disheartening. There's no way they can pull it off unless they seriously dumb-down basically everything.

This is a very doubtful game and no one knows where it's really gonna go until they release a working thing.

Now, if they stick to their word (ha, it's the internetz.) and they go through with their referrals system, then I'll be trying their so called "beta" and "alpha" shit. So who knows.

"The game is being written in HTML5… The first version of the game will be soley in 2D..." Not to mention all they did was mod Warcraft 3 and Diablo 2 in their demo, the last demo of which was only still shots and not an actual video. This guy is full of it.

Wait a second… how is it supposed to run on a console then?

Well duh ![:P](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png)

I was just wondering if they were going to put any ideas forth about how they were actually going to do that with HTML5\. I guess they'd theoretically have to rewrite the whole thing…

This is a nice idea, but the scale they're talking about is not really happening with current technology. It's just too vast. As has been said before, the pure organisation and dedicated workforce needed for this makes it unrealistic, even for those big studios.

However, there is little or no evidence to really show how this is going to happen. Maybe with a bit more evidence I might believe it, but not right now.
