My 1st grass tiles

please rate and only constructive critisizm, no flaming please. these are my first tiles made with gimp and i really didnt know what i was doin. i think they look good though, :D

wwwoooww nice.. i like the style.. one suggestion like make some like little groups of grass show so you can see the blades of grass.. (more life like)

This looks nothing like grass.
it looks like water
and does not look like a pixeled art
more like sumthin u just pooped out and called it art.
i suggest u take some tutorials
and or look at some examples of other peoples work. to better understand what grass looks like.
or u could go outside and look at grass

thanks. i got mad at my older brother cause he said that he was going to take my coputer and throw it away. so i just scribbled on gimp and i said "hey, this looks like grass. so i tested it on eclipse, it worked and posted it here.

Those won't tile very well for mapping purposes. Also as stated by others the texture is wierd and looks more like a fluid than grass.

Yes, if this tiled, I would recolor it blue and make it water - it's impressive for water!

But, not grass. For grass, you need very little bittiness of details going on, rather than smoothed out lumps. :)

grass pretty much has to be done pixel by pixel. find a good color for grass to be. not too light and not too dark. Then, add two more colors to the pallete, a lighter one and a darker one than the base. then, randomly splotch those colors in groups* (important). if you did it right, you'll have good grass. to get it to tile seamlessly is a different story though

*Example: where b is base d is darker color and l is lighter color

Not actualy true but the point in general is - using effects like that is not good.
You should put more effort into tiling, allways check how they transit and stuff like that.

Well the main thing it's completely the wrong texture. You can use effects but you have to use effects that make a grassy texture instead of a fluid texture.

Personally the easiest way is just get a good base green then add noise. It has it's drawbacks but it's easy and it gives some texture.
