Wolf NPC - Elandor Chronicles

[Dark Crusade]

Alright, so we've yet to show off an NPC. Since NPC sprite development is picking up nicely, I've decided to reveal the 'style' of our NPCs, with a preview of a wolf sprite. Currently there are only 3 NPCs completed (wolf, bat, crab), as NPCs is one of the last tasks to do with exception of mapping.

Looks good, but I think some more tail sway is needed. :)

After having a good look at it myself, theres two edits I think I'm yet to make. The tail as you've pointed out, and his foot when it stretches back looks a bit awkward.

The front leg's foot you mean? Yeah I think it looks ok, it does stretch or distort a little bit, but I think it's acceptable as motion exaggeration.

Looks very nice, and the thing you could make better were said. Although the fur sticking out on top of him could move a bit more if he's running like that.

Also, will there be bears?

Yeah, getting all the basic npcs out of the way at the moment, generic wildness creatures like bears, wolves, wasps, bats, crabs, etc.

It's a wolf, it will almost always be running for some player mauling.

Are people expecting the tail to fling up in the air? Have any of you guys even seen a wolf run? They keep their tail-bone straight, and thus their tail doesn't chuck a fuck when they run.

I don't mean to go off topic here but, how exactly do you make your sprites and tilesets? Do you actually draw them out? If so, that is amazing.

Something tells me you're new to the 2D MMO scene. All the pixel art is drawn out by hand. Then again, given that 99% of Mirage-based games aren't fully custom, I suppose that's a merited response. Elandor Chronicles isn't going to skimp out though. We have 100% custom everything - graphics, music, storyline, setting, engine. If we're going to make a game, we're going to do it right.

Actually pixel art is pretty easy to learn if you go through the right channels. Kreator had a series of tutorials some time ago.

Easy to learn… perhaps. It's like saying it's easy to learn painting, it's reasonably easy to learn the basics, and such. But, your going to have to put in a lot of time, dedication and effort to get good at it.

I agree. Anything done at your caliber is much more than some basic shapes and dithering. I'll rephrase that comment, You can learn to do anything, but you'll still have to practice to be good at it. Lord knows I'm not nearly as good as you in pixel art yet.
