Why are there different company versions of the Radeon 6850? Like, the XFX and the Gigabyte. What's the difference?

I still can't find a good quality mobo that is around 80$. All the ones I find have some nasty reviews.

How do you know which part on a computer is malfunctioning, if it doesn't work?

Those three are my questions… hopefully my last before i can get the computer. The only thing stopping me is the mobo, really.

ATI is just like ARM a company that designs the hardware, but doesn't produce them. Licensed companies produce those instead and XFX and Gigabyte are both such companies. Then you also have licensed companies that take a step further and redesign the design and then produce the hardware. Like I got a modified ATI Radeon HD5770 that is overclocked with 10MHz and has a better cooler.

As for your motherboard, I'd definitely get an Asus motherboard.

You can use memtest86+ to check if your RAM works properly. Mounting a processor isn't hard, but you should be sure that it has cooling paste applied (AMD processors usually have that done by default) and I surely wouldn't touch it. Chances are that nothing bad will happen though. Like I ordered a lot of components a long time ago, and the computer still works perfectly.

I thought it looked good.

My dad wanted me to survey some laptops, so I though that I might as well ask about it in this thread, instead of making another one.

[The two laptops](http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=Property&N=100006740&IsNodeId=1&maxPrice=750&OEMMark=1,0&PropertyCodeValue=393:53928,393:49576,393:58096,393:58094,393:58095,393:53922,449:49738,449:79300,449:49570,2923:18470,406:43779,406:28503,406:45867,406:39260,406:24679,406:33097,410:44102,410:46027,410:10743&bop=And&CompareItemList=32|34-115-864^34-115-864-TS,34-214-043^34-214-043-TS)

The basic difference is an i3 at 2.4ghz, or a AMD Phenom x4 at 2.1ghz. Opinions?
