@Helladen:

> I was just giving an example that age doesn't make a difference. If you program young or program later on, the person who started later on could be better…

As off topic as it might seem, No it does matter. While you are younger your brain and personality are more malleable. Not to mention the sheer experience factor. So by the time she's my age she'll have 11 years of experience to my one or two. Long and short of it is that people who start on things earlier in their life and pick it up will always be better than people who try to learn it later.

(I use Emily as an example because she's here. I hope she appreciates my compliments. ;) )

> Some people don't start programming until college and are better than everyone here by a long shot.

Hahaha, no. If you want to program then you can teach yourself it. If you don't do anything till you reach University then you're not driven enough to learn it properly and actually excel at it.

As I've told you many times, programming skills is mainly problem solving skills. Although these will be developed whilst learning your first language, you still need a decent amount of natural ability before you even start.

Anyone can learn a syntax and IDE. Doesn't make you a programmer.

@Robin:

> Emily is actually a fantastic programmer who develops the software which the Dwarf Fortress wiki is going to be run off, as well as hosts it. Oh, and she's been helping me with my little games for many, many years now.

> Hell, both Emily and Jake are much better than me.

I've learned programming in College, and though I'm better than some kids on here I'm no where near as good at someone like Stephan.. He's out-programmed pretty much this entire community since he was 14…
