Japanese styled house

EDIT: Overhauled buildings and overall style!…

I decided to try something new and went for a retro look. Never tried it before, but I think it turned out well. Think of original ninja gaiden. What do you think?

EDIT:

@AmSamurai:

Well actually, even earlier than that. I used the style of this game as a reference…

Either it's squashed or you're going for the slightly off perspective which Andi has made popular.

If it's the former than it just looks stupid.

If it's the latter then you need to make the roof the same damn perspective, you can't just have it seen from the front.

I think the roof perspective doesnt match the house.

Yeah, It is an odd perspective.

It's similar to the style he made popular, however the perspective I copied off of is slightly different. The game is basically 2.5d. I took 2.5d and tried to make it flat (for side-scrolling). I guess I forgot to mention that. haha.

What? Just because it's a side-scroller doesn't mean it needs to be flat.

The lower-half of the house is done in one perspective and the roof is done in another. Pick one and stick with it.

If there was that type of perspective (EDIT: Alright, just saw how the house was supposed to look, was looking at it the wrong way. It's still awkward though :x), the lighting wouldn't be exactly the same across the roof, kind throws it off, also, buildings don't inherit that much lighting, use it on corners, edges, etc. It's all quite.. awkward.

The roof is keeping the same pattern as the house, ever so slightly changing perspective, but it's progressive..

Despite it being a Japanese style house, or needing to be flat, the roof just doesn't suit the style you've done for the house, and I'd say stick with the house, not the roof.

Also, in terms of color, don't use black lines, and like people keep yelling at each other, use hue shifting. So change the entire colors slightly when pixelling, Not keeping in the same shade range.

Yeah they look good, the only thing I don't like is the sides of the buildings are too straight. I'd imagine a roof lip or something over the side. Also you shouldn't have a dark outline on any object where it touches the ground; only where the object is depicted against the sky, for side-scroller perspective.

@Robin:

> Gotta love those builders. They're such jokers building external doors on the first floor.

Hah, obviously that's not how it would appear. I just through doors in there where I felt necessary. XD
