    To me, the first 5 are great. The axe however, should be slightly thinner. That's my opinion.
  5. I'm surprised Peaverin isn't getting more votes. It's overused rmvx gfx but the map is well laid out. Anyway, I voted for Kreator, Zetasis, and Peaverin. I found most of the rest to be bland, like they took 5 minutes to put together. Kreator's map, though I found it somewhat lacking in diversity had the perfect amount of detail. Zetasis' map could have been a little more interesting on the outside of the industrial building, but the interior was well thought out. I like Bugsick's tileset but the actual maps submitted were lacking a certain wow factor beyond the beautiful graphics. I don't know how anyone thought Naoki12's map was nice (not flaming just being honest). Even slasher's map is better and it has 0 votes so far.

If a logo is confusing at first glance, common sense or fluency in english are completely irrelevant. I understood that it said WhiteBoy after looking at it two or three times, which is the point that some of us are making. A logo shouldnt have to be dissected to be understood. The E looks like a 3, and the B looks like an E. Clever but confusing at FIRST glance (See how i emphasized "first" there). Don't insult people just because you feel clever. Should we be amazed at how quickly you got it or something? You look at the first 4 letters and the the last two and its easy to fill in the blanks.. eventually. If you got it right away congratulations, you're bi-winning. I did well in english class and I don't remember the teacher ever telling us to write E as 3 or a B as an E. Having said that Im sure most people can figure it out, but theres always gonna someone who goes "ever hear that band Whit 3 Eoy? they rock socks". For all those people who lack "common sense" or just dont bother to look twice, the logo could use some alterations.

It bothers me because almost all classical and some modern games that have stuck to tradition give access to simple looking weapons in the beginning then as you progress and level the items begin to look more fantastical, the kind of ub3r gear you want to see once you've actually progressed.. not at level 5 or whatever. Some could argue that fancier weapons early on keep people interested, but I think it actually deters from wanting to progress when you have an ultimate looking sword or hammer etc before you even reach a higher level or kill that super hard boss. Finding rare weapons/armor is one of the things I find most fun about mmo's or rpg games in general. But I wanna work for them. Do puzzles or defeat hard enemies before my gear seems l33t (or at least looks like it is). I'm totally with you on this one.

    Grass tile

    Do more upwards strokes. Downwards or in a circle doesnt imitate grass well. Because grass as you know shoots mostly upwards, give or take a few blades that get bent aside. Keep trying.

I don't know about you but when I play a game that has realistic elements, I think that's cool because in real life you can't do this or that etc. I'm not saying its a rule you have to follow. If it was I would have cooldown on potions in Escalon, which I don't.
  16. I love that you narrowed the stats/attributes down to just 3\. Seems like it would be efficient and easy to build a character.
  17. What threw me off entirely (until you said the name) was the E and B. When reversed they can potentially be either. In my opinion it's too confusing at first glance, so unless you want people to read over the logo more than once to get it I would make it less abstract.
  18. It's my opinion, but the logo should somehow represent the title "Cinder: Igniting Embers" better. This could be done with color, as kreator said, or possibly images (like an igniting flame for an "i" dot). While its a nice logo I dont think it gives does the title of the game (which is great) justice.
  19. To me its a matter of preference, as to how you want battles to play out. If potions can be instantly consumed with no cooldown level then the enemies should be considerably harder. Whereas if there is a cooldown and limit on when/how many you can use then the enemies would be have to be somewhat less powerful to compensate. I think making potions undrinkable in battle would just piss people off. However, a cooldown timer does make sense, and I think that alone would enhance battle. Besides, in reality, a person can hardly quaff a potion and then quickly quaff another etc without barfing or something. (im sure this is debateable) Of course another idea would be to make the vitals randomized & based on a certain stat(s). That way a potion wouldnt always recover for the same amount, possibly very little, adding to battle suspense. That in addition to a cooldown timer would force players to think more about survival tactics, rather than just spamming potions.

Looks like it would work well in a roguelike, or dungeon crawler type game if you made more sprites in this style and a basic tileset.
  21. Not bad, but I find the road is too light. The buildings also seem over-saturated when compared to the trees/grass. And on the taller buildings the bricks dont tile properly.

On topic: I'll throw in my two cents. I think gameplay is most important. Does it capture your attention and hold it? If not, its a fail. Id say features are equally as important as they are a big factor in gameplay. However, I think some people think if theres a lot of features a game is suddenly better. This is not always the case. The features should be unique and give the game a sense of originality. If the systems that control the features are the same as every other Orpg then there is a lack of creativity on the creators' part. I feel graphics would be of third importance. Not that I dont like nice graphics, but 16bit or 32bit graphics that are done well (I emphasize well) can be nostalgic and fun. However, If theyre done poorly it takes away from everything else in the game because you're mind will keep drifting to how shitty it looks. Story line is obviously important. But with the plethora of rpg (online and otherwise) that have been made its not exactly easy to come up with a totally unique idea, without confusing people with strange names and places and mind-numbing world history that noone will even read. In an online game its even less important in my opinion, whereas its value goes up in a single player game to hold attention. Having said all that, it's still always a case of what you're aiming for with your game. Some games will be aimed more towards a story than features, or graphics over gameplay. I think whats more important than all of these is learning to think outside the box. Do you want your game to be like every other, and have it put on the backburner because someone else has all the same features but better graphics? People swarm to play unique, innovative games like Haven and Hearth, Minecraft etc.. because they got away from the strict guidelines of following a specific genre, like making a 2d version of WoW. So, I would add say originality actually tops all of these elements, if you want to make a game that stands out.
