It's about time I posted something about my project…

I'm not quite ready to post my game to Non-Eclipse Projects or IndieDB yet due to some graphical progress, but I can show it off at this point. The game takes place somewhere in the North American Stone Age when the nomads first arrived. Some chose to create villages, others chose to live as nomads. Survival is key, and death is catastrophic. The MMO-style of the game allows rich player interaction in a world which takes days to walk across. Player customization is dependent on how you progress yourself, while many things like race are randomly generated for you. Since every character is different, the game also exists as a social experiment in human prehistory.

The name is "**Homestead: Settle and Survive**" and it's written in C++ using libnoise and SFML.

Here is a WIP mockup for the new graphics style we're working on (credit to Toxicity):

***The graphics are just placeholders made by me until Toxicity and my other artist replace them.**

To do:

-Add progress bars for actions

-Add food stats

-Add hunting

-Add farming

-Add fishing

-Add PvP

-Add more content

-Etc…

duck yeah, that's one of the coolest time periods. Will there be mammoths? Dire wolves? Giant sloths, maybe? Sabertooth cats, even?

I can't wait for this. I loved haven and hearth, and it seems like this will be similar but with an even better setting.

There will be a wide array of animals from that time period, so that's probably a "yes" to some of those suggestions (primarily wolves). I'm open for ideas.

And yeah, I'm taking a lot of inspiration from HnH. I loved how deep its gameplay was, and I want to replicate that in a retro-themed game. I didn't like how things like teleportation and LP worked, so I hope to change it up a bit. I also took inspiration from Minecraft (terrain generation, building options), Terraria (combat, music), and Gnomoria (zones, graphics style, music).

Please add an action/progress bar so that players can decipher how long any given operation will take. I've said this more times than I can bear. lol. Overall, it's looking pretty good. Can we hope for a Christmas release? ![;)](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png)

I added that to the "to do" list. And there may be a minimal release around Xmas depending on what I can do. I still want to add a few key things before I start adding content.

> Looks great man, hopefully you get fluent with c++. It can really take you places.

Yup! I'm happy with how I've progressed ![:)](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png)

> This looks awesome, what are the limits to building etc…?

Basically, you have to first lay down a housing plot at a reasonable fixed size (25x25 tiles maybe?). Then you have to add the flooring, the walls, and furnishings. It follows the same graphical idea as Kreator's house tileset.

> I would love to see a character, that style is done perfectly.

Toxicity is going to work on some more stuff this week I believe. I'm eager to see what he creates as well.

> New graphics mockup looks great, looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks ![:)](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png)

> I'm honestly not quite sure what the gray stuff is… stone I guess? Also, the fact that the items in the GUI bar are not evenly spaced bothers me.

It's a stone mountain, so yes. These are obviously not the final graphics. Also, the GUI is a WIP, so yeah. Nothing graphical is done yet.

EDIT:

I'm basically using Notch's idea:
