Hippoman789
Ok so i was wondering about this in the car.If your running out of gas.you have 1 gallon exactly left.you have to get to a gas station.it is 1 mile away.your car goes 1 mile per gallon. (its a math problem dont say "ooh wow thats a crappy car.")Which way is faster?1\. Going fast and using gas faster.or2\. Going slow and using gas slower. Alster
Going Fast Of Course!
Drummerpete
Going fast is faster.More economical to drive slower.
AdrianC
Thats dumb…Of course when you go fast you will get there faster..............Warning - while you were typing a new reply has been posted. You may wish to review your post. Also he said:your car goes 1 mile per gallon. Therefore a slower speed doesnt mean more fuel economy. Its always 1mile/galon
renzo
wait, do you mean mathematically? or physically?cuz in my personal experience, driving slower uses less gas, because if your speeding up, it uses up more gas during accelerationi could put that in a mathematical term but i dont wanna use that much brain power :P but yea there is a mathematical proof to my above statement its just too much work to think it over, and im enjoying pie at the moment and i dont want to ruin the moment with math on the mind :P
zombie0hour
You make no sense
AdrianC
Yeah, driving slower in real life will use less fuel, but his question states clearly:your car goes 1 mile per gallon.
renzo
but you gotta see the question **within** the question my good sir ;)think about it this way, as your pushing down on the pedal, your using up more gas, problem is, it needs to use up more gas to reach the speed you want to goso a person driving 40miles/hr speeds up to 70 miles/hr, thats 30miles/hr acceleration gas wastedits not just a simple math question, there is also physics to itif it was that simple, it wouldnt be a trick question :P
AdrianC
As I said, you are correct. For a real life situation. He said "your car goes 1 mile per gallon". Had he mentioned a speed, then what you're saying would be valid. If you were going faster, the car would run out of gas, and you would have to walk the remaining distance. He didn't mention a speed however, therefore, going faster will get you there faster. renzo
i suppose that is true, i guess well have wait for hippoman to come back on and gives the answer :P
zade_o
if you go fast enough you can just use your momentum to make it to the gas station once you run out of gas =)
shadowwulf
most cars are designed to run optimully at about 50-60mph.so somewhere in that range is your best bet to actually get there and ge there quickly.
Hippoman789
Well by 1 mile per gallon i meant thats really all you have left.im not sure, but renzo wins. he makes most sense.
Soljah
This is Simple. Go Fast with low Revs. It's the rev/sec that actually effects the fuel usage. I know from experience, I've had to test all my cars with this, just for the hell of it.You can sit on 100 km/hr , with 1200 revs at top gear. You can sit on 40 km/hr, with 5500 revs in first gear. The second situation will use more fuel, without getting you very far. You cant have 1mile/galon left. 1mile/galon is not a quantity, its a ratio…...................................
Hippoman789
i know. im not very good at wording this, yet renzo makes most sense. because you use more gas accelerating.
Soljah
Like I said, It isn't the acceleration, It's the revolutions that dictate how much fuel you use.
