@MrMiguu:

> You must be anti-socialist.

To an extent.

@Keebler:

> Historically only 1 president who ran for his second term lost. So even if you think Obama does a crap job or an amazing job there is a very good chance we will see him for another 4 years.

Even if this is true, you must consider Obama's historically low approval ratings.

@Helladen:

> No. I'm being completely serious. We're falling apart but at the moment we're still the best country in my opinion.

What's this? An American saying they're the best country in the world? Let me guess, you've never been to another country outside of the Americas? ;]

@Admiral:

> The United Kingdom has almost single-handedly screwed up almost every continent on this planet in their obsession with taking over the world.  They've probably been the most influential in the grand scheme of things; screwing over Africa, Australia, Asia, and the Americas (though Spain did their share in South America).  There are quite afew countries trying to recover from the devastation left in the wake of the British Empire.

You're doing a pretty good job of trying to take after your Dad. <3

@Helladen:

> Well Japan did offensively attack us and they lied to us of means of peace. It's better to bomb a country to end a war that could of lasted for another 7 years and lose many lives.
>
> We're human we may mistakes and rash decisions, that's life.

Yes, because your soldiers are obviously worth more than the thousands of innocent women and children you evaporated.

The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are the best way it could've turned out for Japan. Without it the war would've gone on another 2 years, and it would've been bloody for both sides, and would've left Japan in the aftermath a husk. It also would've most likely have resulted in a heavily segregated occupation zones much like what happened to Korea later on.

Japan would've never recovered as it did, they never would've gotten transistor patent rights on the cheap, their economic recovery would've been stunted, they'd essentially be small client states between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. That would've disrupted their growth, and left the entire region worse off, and lasting negative sentiment. It'd be unlikely we'd have Sony, Toyota, Honda, Nintendo, etc.

Of couse these threads are all what ifs, but people only see a small portion of what the world was in late 1945 and are so quick to judge the consequences then.

Also, nobody seems to care that Tokyo was pretty much leveled by firebombs, and well most of Europe's cities were leveled during the war as well; it's just the live detonation of the first atomic weapons showed humanity the age it was entering, where it's technology could cause our own extinction, apparent to all. That reason is why Nagasaki and Hiroshima are remembered, more than anything else. That fear, which I'll admit is justified, is still a strong cultural bias that interferes with proper analyses of history of those events.

More on topic, if you think a democratic candidate or a republican candidate are significantly different, or that they can uphold any personal promises they make, you're a fool who knows nothing about politics. In a way I feel sorry for Obama, he's nothing but a Daley puppet, being used to make the masses think he's different than every other suit that's run for office.

We need a libertarian. I agree with Admiral, Ron Payl wouldve been good. The corps/banks have too much power in the government. Limiting the power of a corp politically shouldnt put any restrictions on the people though, or how they may act in business.

Ron paul isn't even on the polls on the news anymore.  Though he's still actively rallying, even faux news hates the guy after he agreed with Colms over Hannity, told off O'reilly, etc.  I think the republicans are probably going to push for Romney or some crap like that.

Ron Paul has been my favorite choice too. I think he is genuine and doesn't have a bias towards one party or the other. He does what he thinks is right. Fox News, MSNBC, and CNN all piss me off something fierce. Ron Paul imo could solve a lot of problems if he got in for 2 terms.
