JFWS JFWS JFWS JFWS JFWS JFWS JFWS JFWS JFWS JFWS JFWS JFWS JFWS JFWS JFWS JFWS

* * *

Welcome to the release of my newest website template / backbone. This template was designed to be used as a template for a mid-eval themed game. The colours of each of the DIVS (5 of them) correspond with the background itself.

* * *

Included:
5 pre-made php web-pages already linked and provided with content suggestions.
A universal navbar and footer, easily customisable and will be published to all pages so you don't have to worry about updating every page.
Lightweight, without forums the website takes up less than 40kb. A great solution for anyone with data or bandwidth restrictions.
A clean and easy to use feel, with plenty of room to use to fit your very needs.

* * *

Forums:
To use forums, please extract your favourite forum software to the forum dictionary. The navbar points to /forum/index.php.

* * *

Screen Shots:
Because it would probably take a lot of hassle for you to download and re-upload to a webhost. I have included pictures of every page. Please remember these pages are viewed with firefox. I have also included some screen shots of the code so you can see how clean it feels.

It's a tiled background image with an ugly box.
I wouldn't recommend anyone use this unless they were going to completely re-design it, which defeats the purpose of a template.

Just try and make the design pretty; right now it's dull boring and just… It could be better. I'll leave it at that.

Your navigation bar feels like a Google-Ads area. Nothing is indented properly, it looks like a cut and paste job. You didn't post a download, so no one can use it. You would be better off using $_GET variables for the pages, or some tricky .htaccess modifications instead of using an include on every page for the navigation bar and footer. Better yet, use one include for the page content.

Thanks,

Aero: I'll fix that nav bar

Robin: I don't understand your picture.

Everyone else: How's this?

The background image really destroys it. I would also pad things some, give the text a little bit of breathing room. Another note, add rounded corners to the main area. (Around the entire thing.) It will improve the look hugely.

@Frosty:

> Robin, I didn't use tables to design. Maybe if you looked at the code SS I posted, you would notice all DIVs.

Is English not your first language? I quite clearly said not to set your _standards_ to 1995 table designs.

I couldn't care less how you scripted your website, it still looks like something from the '90s. The point of my post was to go look at a real website and use that to get a good understanding of how you should design yours.

Look at my website then look at yours. [http://www.crystalshire.com/](http://www.crystalshire.com/)

@Frosty:

> As opposed to… using hexagons and ellipses?

(I Assume) He's referring to the lack of borders, round corners. Not that they are necessary, but everything collides with everything else. Nothing flows. If he were to add a 1px border around the Nav Bar, for instance, it would improve the look greatly. As well as adding one around the entire page, sidebar, etc.

I see a bunch of boxes with more boxes inside. Graphics that I don't have the skill to make, and content to post, witch I don't have.

Oh and for the comment about English.

You said;
By looking at a real website rather than setting your standards to 1995 table design your teacher handed out in Primary School.

You should have said:
By looking at a real website rather than setting your standards to the / a 1995 table design your teacher handed out in primary school.

So maybe it was your lack of an article and capitalising non-proper nouns that threw me off.

Really? You honestly don't see the difference? If so you should give up on web development now. To design a website you need at least a basic understanding of presentation and colour. If you're going to lump my website together with yours then you're obviously blind to both of these.

That's a very long-winded and completely useless point because I quite clearly just left out the 's' on 'Designs'. That didn't change the semantics of my post, however, so kindly lay off the _ad hominem_ arguments.

@Frosty:

> So maybe it was your lack of an article and capitalising non-proper nouns that threw me off.

See, I might take offence to that if I actually cared about the opinion of someone who uses a repeating stone texture on their websites.

My point still stands and my opinion is shared by everyone else in your thread. Go learn the basics of design before arrogantly assuming that your work is good enough to release.

Not being able to take constructive criticism from people who are actually good at web development is plain retarded.

This entire time I've been working on it, doing what everyone has been telling me.
