Ooo, Kreator agreed with me.

Those tiles are a lot better. Transitions ruin that feel. Keep everything as compact as possible like in that style you just posted.

Sorry for such a late reply, I've been away for so long…
@Eckhart:

> Grass tiles badly and your wood grain textures need work. Personally I don't like the dark blue swirls in your water either, I think it would look better and simpler if they were all light blue… [cut]

Thank you for the tips, I'll mess around with the water for sure and different grass variations.

@Symphony:

> It's really awesome. It feels right, smooth, simple, retro, all that great stuff.
> My only advice is less contrast… [cut]

Thank you, I will try adding contrast to the tiles you mentioned!

@Kreator:

> Please don't use transitions. Your originals looked better, and I understand  and favour the style.

Thanks Kreator (and everyone else who agrees). I soon scrapped the lazy transition I did after sharing it, I'm sticking to the original style I intended. Thanks for the support!

If you're looking to become a better artist stick with the transitions. They still look lazy because of how simple they are. This whole entire tile set looks inorganic. Try to create a more realistic grass texture (please don't tell me the current one is for "style" because we both know it isn't). I'd do an edit for you if I had time.

Tilesets and graphics in general are necessary to attract players. When you determine what look you are going for, you should consider the outside viewer's perspective more than your own. Think to yourself, "Does this look like a game that my friend ____ would like to play?" Your colors are also pretty saturated! You should spend a lot of time picking the colors you use, it's what I spend the most time on in my personal work. The grass should probably be either browner or more teal (depending on the environment, which I'm not quite sure what it is). And the water could use some hue shifting too.

Also, just because Kreator or a "good" artist tells you something doesn't mean you should necessarily follow it. Not unless you can tell it's a really thoughtful response or critique.

Do what you will, but I'd highly recommend transitions. Especially if you want to improve as an artist! Good luck with your project :)

You assume that he can't do transitions while he choose to not use them. I don't really thing it's a matter of improvement here, he might as well improve by going with his own vision and style.

I even dare to say it's better to go with what you want to do, even if people are not too fond of it… unless he skipped transitions because he's lazy.

My thoughts exactly.

If you're going for that style (I saw a SS of Pokémon on GBA on Page 1), take a look at these. I took part in making a GBA game (broken, mind) for my Universities' Game Jam this year, so the screenshots and info below may help you:

**Info:**
- 8px*8px tiles
- Each tile can have a maximum of 16 different colours
- Screen size: 240px*160px (30*20 tiles)
- Max Map size: 512px*512px
- Sprite size can range from 8px*8px to 64px*64px, in powers of two.
- 256 colours can be used on the tiles and sprites (sprites = npc's, players, ui etc.) at any one time.
- Maybe also take into account input systems too if you're going to be putting these tiles into a game.

**Screenies:**

Hope this helps, good luck!
