  1. @Robin: > Paying £20,000 to do something you enjoy is plain stupid. You go to University to get a piece of paper which is worth the amount of time and money you put in, not to do something you enjoy. You'll enjoy yourself plenty during your free time. Being in University is great. > > Don't be one of those idiots who assumes going to University is anything other than investing in your career, though. If you don't know what to do yet then don't go to University. Break away from the pack. I cancelled my University position pretty late on and it's one of the best things I've ever done. Yeah, of course I would only go to further my career path. Just that I've been told that in University it is very difficult to do unless you have motivation. And picking a course that I'm going to enjoy over a course that I would hate would help that fact. I'm not going to pick something because I think it would be 'fun'. That's not what it's about. @JeffSventora: > What do you need? Well I challenge you to go to Gamasutra and look at the job listings. First off, you will need to be proficient with at least C++, C being the second most popular in modern game development. Second, you will need to be extra savvy with very specific mathematical subjects including but not limited to; Linear Algebra, Calculus, Trigonometry and of course, Physics. You're going to need to understand what a vector, vertex, matrix, ray, plane, tauros and teapot are in order to be good with graphics. I am currently doing an A-level in maths, and I am trying to learn as much as I can. Not just the stuff that will get me the qualification. @JeffSventora: > After that is all said and done, practice. Work on your own small time projects just to develop skills. Always strive to learn more and do your best to network. Attend local events. I went to a bar last year where EA Tiburon was hosting a get together, there I got to meet some pretty cool people. Next year I plan on attending GDC to get my name and portfolio out there. Again, I'm also trying to get a lot of experience. Working with Eclipse, my own project, etc. I can't really start a portfolio yet as it would be very bare. Thanks for all your advice guys, you're really helping out.

    @Keebler: > Seriously… > > ![](http://www.freemmorpgmaker.com/files/imagehost/pics/8a2b3b6963884bf3d550c1e6a35d23a2.png) I got the same problem.
  3. @Annahstas: > Just try making a sprite that seems to sit. Then have a paper doll under them. Though make it look more prettier. Don't make it look like a rough crappy sketch of what you want. Just mess around with it. A mount system should be made by editing the source. Don't try something like this.
  4. And over exaggerated kill-streak sounds like in Unreal and Halo.

Is there anywhere I can find the system requirements? I plan on getting it for PC.
  6. So if going to university for game development is pointless, what about the other options? Computer science is really the only subject that appeals to me. I want to be going in to university doing something that I enjoy as well as I'm good at. Obviously I will start working on independent projects in my spare time, game development related or not.
  7. Nah, I'm terrible at pixel art. I did that first one just I could take part.
  8. In a nutshell; it sounds good in theory, but it would be a disaster if put to practice.
  9. I'm considering following a career path involving computer science and/or game development. Has anybody got any advice? I'm currently at college studying maths, computing, electronics and business A-levels. I plan on going to university.
  10. @Dash: > ![](http://i42.tinypic.com/2lvgy7o.gif) The best I've seen.
  11. @Tahnner: > I'm accepting any help that comes my way. Great! I am yours to command.
  12. I can be a temporary programmer if you like. I'm not the best, but I'm available.
  13. Okay, what sort of time are you leaving it for?

    Black Ops

I played it on Xbox for a while, until my friends stopped. Once they had gone I found it really boring.
  15. @Erwin: > can i help u? Huh?
  16. @Jna: > Wow, looks so cool. Another game I won't be able to run :) What does it require?
  17. If that's supposed to be a ball, it's too triangle shaped and not round enough.
  18. And the fact that people with no skills would want to help out and add crap to it.
  19. It could be to do with your system. I have never experienced this problem and I don't think others have either.
  20. @Robin: > There was a dev on /v/ apparently. Said that fun cheats are coming back. Hopefully they'll get their sense of humour as well. 4 was depressing. Totally agree.

    Skyrim

I'm so sure about getting this now. Have to wait 3 days after it's release though. :(
  22. My username's Zaomos if anyone wants to add me.
  23. It's a nice thought but in practice it would fail terribly.
  24. The problem I had with GTA4 is that the game was too gloomy. That's why I'm looking forward to this one.
