  1. Why not have the game start _before_ the item is retrieved? A short quest could serve to introduce and involve the player. That way, once everything goes wrong and the real plot starts, the player is already personally invested into the story. I like the first one as-is the most. I agree with Renzo, however. Dismissing it all as a dream is very disappointing. I think falling into a new world allows more room for creativity, but the first story might be your best bet. It all comes down to which story you think you could execute best.
  2. Relatively new OS. Haven't had a chance to defile the desktop yet.![](http://i48.tinypic.com/1emano.png)

  4. The biggest issue is the hat. Adjusting the hat to match the top-down perspective of the sprite would help tremendously. ex:![](http://i46.tinypic.com/aouryh.png) Saturated reds, pure greys, and poop browns? While these kinds of colors can be stylized, they are usually only used by amateurs. It's kinda like a painter restricting himself to the colors straight out of the tube, instead of mixing his own. I would suggest you use more natural tones. I noticed you did a little pillow shading. It'd a small canvas to detail on, yes, but try to avoid pillow shading. It looks too flat as it is. Those are my suggestions. It's not bad, but there's always room for improvement. ![:)](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons//smile.png)

Thanks y'all. >! Al Kharid, a city of RuneScape. It really is a 2D version of a 3d design. >! ![](http://i48.tinypic.com/m7yozr.png) > Some of the roofs are using the tile for the ground, and some are using a different one. Is there a reason for this? Sort of. I was trying to make the tileset in a time crunch so I took some lazy shortcuts. The ground/roof mix was one of them. > Very nice!! Only critic: The roofs have those HUGE railings (Idk if this was intended) > > And this big house in the middle isn't correct. > > I know you said its not perfect, but i like it:D 'preciate it. The ledges were sized intentionally. The top of the walls are even with bottom of the chest of a 32x64 sprite. What part of the house?

I didn't intend for this to become a game. lol No one has said it yet. Like I said, It's practically a 2D version of a 3D design. ![:P](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons//tongue.png)

  10. It's not something I'd want to listen to regularly, but you've taken a terribly annoying tune and made it enjoyable. Kudos. I think it makes a good first piece, although I know nothing of remixing.

    Desert town

I've been working on a new tileset this last week. It was meant to be entered into Solja's mapping contest, but I didn't finish in time. The inspiration is actually stolen from another game. It's practically a 2D version of a 3D design. 10 points to whoever can guess where it's from. ![;)](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons//wink.png) It's certainly far from perfect, but if I don't put it here it will probably never be seen. I appreciate any criticism from you guys. ![](http://i47.tinypic.com/vgsajp.png) Thanks for looking.
  12. I can't let insensible tile placement and graphical inconsistencies slide. Polish is too important. Only one of these actually meets industry standard imo. Of course, that's not to say there aren't some good ones as well. Kreator got my vote.
  13. It's simple but nice. It needs a better roof texture, however. The way the roof obstructs the back window also troubles me.
  14. There are enough 2D MMO's out there. If you have a relatively original idea, go for it. I'm curious about how you'll deal with death. Being the first to die and becoming useless for the rest of the round doesn't sound all that appealing, but neither does being killed by the guy you just killed in a survival game.
  15. Better hurry. ![:P](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons//tongue.png) He lives in Australia I think, so it may technically be over. I hope not, however, as there's still a good 9 hours left of the 30th where I live.
  16. > If a logo is confusing at first glance, common sense or fluency in english are completely irrelevant. I understood that it said WhiteBoy after looking at it two or three times, which is the point that some of us are making. A logo shouldnt have to be dissected to be understood. The E looks like a 3, and the B looks like an E. . If this were an image meant to represent a business, then you'd have a very valid point. Business logos have their own strategy. Unfortunately for you, we're not talking about businesses. Try to be objective and look at it comparatively with other band logos. Judge it for its identifiability more so than its legibility. > Clever but confusing at FIRST glance (See how i emphasized "first" there). Don't insult people just because you feel clever. Should we be amazed at how quickly you got it or something? You look at the first 4 letters and the the last two and its easy to fill in the blanks.. eventually. If you got it right away congratulations, you're bi-winning. No part of me feels clever for being able to read. I could easily spin that accusation of yours around and ask you not to insult the logo just because it makes you feel dense for having difficulty where others did not. It goes both ways. > I did well in english class and I don't remember the teacher ever telling us to write E as 3 or a B as an E. Rightfully so. Why would a literature teacher be teaching aspects of design anyway? Bad logic. > Having said that Im sure most people can figure it out, but theres always gonna someone who goes "ever hear that band Whit 3 Eoy? they rock socks". For all those people who lack "common sense" or just dont bother to look twice, the logo could use some alterations. Moot point. The world doesn't cater itself to the "Whit 3 Eoy" folk. After all this controversy the logo has spurred, I agree with you that it ultimately needs some alteration.
  17. > Shut up, Nook. If you're the only person the shit is clear to, then it's not ducking clear. I find it ironic that the man who cannot hold his own tongue would tell me to shut up. Sorry, but I don't idly sit by when called a liar. Oh, and don't be so ignorant. I might be in the minority, but I most certainly am **not** the only one. @OP If you're still working on this, you should try out Kusy's idea. I'd like to see how it turns out.
  18. > Everyone commenting that they could CLEARLY read it is lying. It isn't clear at all. The fact that you told us what it said, is the only reason I understood it. I am definitely not dumb or illiterate. Brilliant presumption. /sarcasm There's just one flaw in your reasoning: you aren't special in the slightest.
  19. What time on Nov 30 does the contest end? I'm debating on entering, but it depends if I can actually create a tileset in 4 days. >.>
  20. Custom tilesets are allowed, yes. And sorry, I hadn't realized the original question was asked by another user. I gather he meant to do something else other than what you've described. My best advice to Casper is to [message Solja](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/index.php?app=members&module=messaging§ion=send&do=form&fromMemberID=37160).
  21. > I don't see how it is an 'unfair' advantage. Anyone could do the same in photoshop, gimp, or paint.net. Of course it's too late to simply pickup and start learning how at this moment, but to those who already do this (because it is a popular rpg maker technique) I really think it is fair. They took the time to learn how to use photoshop or an equivalent, thus they **should** have the advantage. Besides, if you wanted to make that rule now, some of these maps would be disqualified. Everyone else has adhered to the rules. Allowing you to bend them so you can work outside the limitations of grids and layers would be completely unfair. > Maps **Must** be made with **Eclipse** Follow the rules or don't enter.

    Grass tile

Keep going. You've already made good progress since your first attempt! The obvious tiling is your issue now. 32x32 tiles are so small that minor deviations really stand out when they are tiled. Try making the detailing on the tile uniform. You can do that by eye or use shortcuts, like copy-n-pasting the good detailing over the bad and then modifying it slightly.
  23. > Yeah man, totally. I thought that an E was an E, so I should insult myself. If you're telling me you thought it said White Eoy, then yeah, you should.
  24. It's perfectly legible to anyone with some common sense. Those that are fluent in English and couldn't read it should be insulting themselves, not this work. It meets all the typical standards for a music artist logo. You've also got some great symbol potential in the 3B, so kudos. A great symbol can be a big deal. My only critique is on the overall balance. My eyes are instantly drawn to the 3B, but I don't get the satisfaction of a balanced composition when I look at the focal point.
