Cities XL allows gamers to develop cities on realistic 3D maps using an incredible collection of unique structures and monuments based on American, Asian and European-influenced architectural styles. The maps feature a variety of environments: mountains, hills, canyons, beaches and islands, all set in different climates from tropical to desert, Mediterranean to temperate.

Players must create the right combinations of social services, leisure activities, special events and other job opportunities within their cities in order to feed, clothe, employ and entertain their citizens.

There is also an online feature where players interact, chat, visit each other's cities and trade. You can play Solo mode, just like any other City-building game, or you can pay monthly for the online feature - at pretty good prices, if you ask me. £9 a month, or £13 every 3 months (I think).

**Release Date?**
In two days, for £30.

@Anna:

> SimCity 2000 > SimCity > SimCity 4 > SimCity 3000

SimCity 2000 > SimCity 3000 > SimCity 4 > SimCity DS > SimCity Societies > SimCity Creator > SimCity DS 2

I grew up on SimCity 2000…

Also, SimCity Societies compared to SimCity 2000 is alike to Spore 2008 as Spore 2005/06.

Not very good. I want to paly SM2000 now... *goes to abandonware*...

Edit;
[Hooray. Simcity 2000!](http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/82/SimCity+2000.html)

Edit Two;
My god, That game is unplayable! I can't believe I used to be able to play that, haha. Happens all the time… Just like Tenchu 2, I think it was. The one where you build levels? The graphics on that are terrible when you try and play it now!

@Anna:

> I didn't like SimCity 3000 at all; it added all the hippy crap and pseudo-Sims crap at the expense of building an epic city. SimCity 4 atleast focused back on cities, and being able to save cities and send them to friends to combine into the entire region was a neat addition.

Basically, Only the original was… original. And only did they do it right at that time :P.

@Anna:

> Nah a lot of the basic SimCity had flaws, I think 2000 fixed most of them. No topography, fixed zone sizes, etc.

Well, one of them was on the Playstation I, which is what I grew up on. Obviously not one of the earlies, but still.. What was that called?? =[

> I never owned a Playstation so I couldn't tell you.

Googled it, it's Sim City 2000 - for the Playstation o_o…

...Anywho, going for a nostalgia dive (at 2am...) with Theme Park, Theme Hospital and Sim City 2000\. My childhood. :D

Yeah, it's rather shizzle after a while - very limitting, too. You have to start off with small housing and small commercial and small farming, before constructing the next tier, by unlocking via population.

The online version of it is **terrible**. It's no different from single player, except you get spammed with Trade Proposals, a single chatbox that gets texted into too fast for you to read what has been said, and the "Avatar Creation" is terrible too - you don't get different models for clothes, theyre all the same model, with different textures.

Waste of money… Single player is fun the first 20 minutes or so, though, and the road/district setup is pretty cool.
