Geno
My mother, being as awesome as she is, offered to fund me for when I build my new gaming rig (last one died on me a while back :( ).I need help…I haven't kept up with technology n stuff since my last computer died. If you guys could make suggestions that would be awesome.I am on a budget of 1500-2000 dollars. So far I got all the stuff I want typed out on a file somewhere on my desktop...But I have changed my mind too many times. If you guys could help, please suggest a graphics card (at least 1gb of memory and below $200), reliable hard drive (inexpensive and 320gb or more of space), a reliable motherboard (under $250 would be nice...), and anything else you may think would help...I would like an Intel chipset...I don't want AMD, had an AMD processor on my computer and I didn't like it.I would also like an Nvidia graphics chip...I never liked ATI for some reason...The graphics card doesn't need to be SLI compatible. Thanks guys. Homicidal Monkey
get:- 2.0 ~ 2.8 ghz dual core 64bit. Thats all you will need for the next few years. Plus you can upgrade I guess. ($50 - $80)- Motherboard. Must support above and any cpu you plan to get within 4 years ($65 - 100)- A nice graphics card; go with nvidia since ati has shitty driver updates (75 - 150)- Case (0 - 100)- Power supply, get the cheapest one that can power a little over all your devices. You will have to add up the power required for each drive. (30- 80)- Ram, get DDR2 for now. DDR3 is expensive and DDR2 is fast enough for now. Get 4gb. It would be a plus if your motherboard supports DDR3 for future upgrades. ($50)-Hard drive. 160-240gb; depends on if your a music/video junkie.-DVD drive. If you own one in another computer, take it out. You dont need 2 dvd drives; its not hard to keep swapping it between comps. If you add that up, you will get about 500 us for a computer that can play most, if not, all computer games. Geno
Hmmm…Thanks guys...I'm still looking into different items :)If I can get all the things I want for below 1000, I can go crazy on the case mods :DMaybe like this:http://www.pugetsystems.com/aquarium_kit.phpEDIT:As much as I was drooling over a processor with 4 physical and 4 virtual cores, a motherboard even more badass then my old one, and a power supply that can power New York, I remembered how long my computers last, and decided to go with Zetta Monkey's suggestions.Besides....In 4-6 years I am going to destroy my wallet on a godbox :)EDIT AGAIN:After considering how my mom has to pay bills and is still nice enough to fund me, I decided to go with inexpensive quality parts...The core parts cost a total of $550 (or so) dollars...Addons include:Wireless (gamers should be hard wired but my room is nowhere near the modem) is about 50 dollars.Monitor (as much as I would love a 30 inch 3D monitor, I dont need it) is about 130 dollars.Mouse and keyboard is about 130 dollars (I cant stand regular keyboards, and thought I would get the mouse I have wanted for a while)I already got my sound :DCase mods total at about $35 (no need for card retention or padding or any of that)I am going to use aftermarket thermal grease (8 dollars for a cpu that is about 2 degrees less is good)And the OS will cost 150 dollars.Might get an aftermarket cpu fan/heatsink.Might get a computer desk with an awesome chair. My first one was 450\. ran almost everything perfectly.. then I just decided i wanted to see everything on max settings. soo.. I spent like.. 600 more. used the old HDD and case. and built a comp that could run nearly every game on max. and see the higher side of FPS

Adulese Games
Computers get outdated within about 6 months of being built/updated. I suggest just getting an Xbox or PS3\. It's cheaper and much easier to maintain than a PC. Plus, you could be a kick ass projection TV set up for under 400 bucks.- Adulese
death
The xBox is full of fanboy's that scream into the mic when they die and then continue to scream and cry until the ned of the game when you end up kicking their arse so hard you got all of their kills. Then they'll start shouting about 'Killin you family biach!' which can be very annoying. The ps3 is much better than the xBox. It's like the adult about the consol's. The Wii is the teen, and the xbox is for certain the child. The only problem with the ps3 is that not many people play online. You don't get as much as the xBox.The PC is an all around systme. You can do anything on it. Type, mouse control, internet easier, all the games (excluding the exclusives), medium community (you can sometimes get idiot 8 year olds, but since the xBox that's decreased), dedicated servers, better grapics than the consol counterparts. Also, with $2000, I get an alienware. JayT
hmmm, thats alot of money to spend on a pc but im kinda like Tipsta with this (i like Max Settings) so i'd go;1, Asus or Giga motherboard with Hybrid Bios (Soc AM2+/AM3)2, AMD Phenom II x4 950 @ 3.4ghz (the new one as its at a awesum price!)3, Nvid 250 or 260 gfx4, 4gig ddr3as your main parts as i just got these in the UK for £250! so roughly $400-$500 in us. as for the other stuff which you dont really need apart from maybe a nice 23" Widescreen, all the above are ok but you said you wanted a GAMING PC and for probly the next few days/months/years that will just get slower and slower as the new DX11 cards are hitting stores and the new AMD Phenom chip that i listed above is also new. Thats just my personal opinion and i aint mentioned Intel as i hate the things lolThanks, Jay
