  1. Hey I was able to run the last version fine, but when I try to run 0.3.0 I get this error msg "run-time error 10013: The requested address is a broadcast address, but flag is not set." I'm guessing this has to do with my internet connection, or ip the server is connecting to, but I don't speak french so I wasn't able to read the instructions :P Anyone else getting this error? Anyone else solve it?
  2. Been trying out your game engine and I have to say I am impressed by the sheer amount of useful features packed in. So yeah nice job! I think it would be great if resources like trees (or better yet map tiles aswell for things like roofs) could be made semi-transparent. If you look at some of the other engines around here there are a few good examples where resources like trees are transparent. I may use your engine for a project to make a free game, and then perhaps possibly later to make a pay to play game- not too sure at this point. Anyway's I was wondering can your engine be used for independent for profit ventures as is the standard for engines around here? Also how much of the graphics that you've included could be used legally in a for profit game? Although I don't expect it I'll appreciate any sort of response to my questions. Thanks and keep up the good work!
  3. I followed the instructions to install vb6 on Windows 7 on this page so if anyone needs easy directions to complete the whole process look at this page- [http://www.fortypoundhead.com/showcontent.asp?artid=20502](http://www.fortypoundhead.com/showcontent.asp?artid=20502)
  4. I like the fact that you have added a word document with detailed instructions for a person new to eclipse to follow. That level of profesional documentation is a step in the right direction for eclipse, even if most vets may not need to do more than a quick skim of the instructions to check for any command changes. I must say though with no event system it still may be hard to convince people this isn't a step back.
  5. > Im still realy new to all the Eclipse engines,so forgive me when i ask to noobish questions ![;)](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons//wink.png) . But is there a way to have a layer dissapear when you are under it? I want to do the roof of house that way. So when your outside you cant see the inside of the house, but when you move in the roof isnt shown anymore and you can look around… No idea if its in the engine allready, but i havent found it so far. This is an indirect method I haven't tried yet, but plan to- It should work. Any resource like trees fade if you are behind them, so all you would need to do is add the tiles of any image you want into the resource folder in such a way that you will then be able to add, say a large statue, and then have that statue fade when you are behind it. Note ripper that the fade option for resources isn't in every eclipse version, but this method should work. It would be awesome though to maybe have say a Faded Fringe layer 1 2 and 3 which would be like the fringe layer, only with the ability to fade when your under it. > ripper you would have to make it an event. it would be a pain in the butt. when youd walk in you would want somthing trip a switch causing all tiles to go blank. > > Karkat i am redownloading and trying it now. Do you know if the source code is as updated as his other releases? As far as if the source code version on page 16 is as updated as the download link on the 1st page, I'm not positive, but I would since it has been posted after the first page's download link it is probably more up to date, but this may not necessarily be the case if Rob has updated the 1st page download link. -It is important to note that even if the source code version has been posted more recently which version is more "up to date" may be debatable since while the source version includes features such as a quest system and the option to limit a players view, the version also does not have a number of features that the one on the 1st page has, such as some of options in the player menu. Rather a convoluted answer, but yeah more recently updated doesn't always equate to better. (although I think the source version is heading in a good direction as long as it doesn't leave features behind.) Cjsrch- Do you know of a way to hide map tiles through the event's systems in this or any other eclipse version? I haven't come across a way to do so yet through the events system but would love to hear it if there is one
  6. Depends. Tea is good anytime, but sometimes coffee is more desirable.
  7. It can be intimidating trying to jump in an create a complete tileset from scratch with little to no skill with pixel art and/or experience with programs like GIMP or Photoshop. I'd recommend just doing it in manageable steps. You don't have to have the biggest ambitions when starting to do a little pixel art, perhaps start by editing existing tilesets, change their color ect. As you naturally gain new skills you'll probably become relatively more ambitious and confident, which as a result will lead to learning and making even more pixel art. The more love you pour into your art the more likely others will really enjoy and appreciate it.
  8. > I am unable to edit the maps unless i do a fill or clear. > > I cant place single tiles. > > any one have workaround? > > note I am using source from page 16. > > I even re extracted the file to make sure i didnt corrupt it When using the source version from page 16 make sure that when your mapping you click the little layers circle on on the bottom right of the mapping sheet above attributes. This may be your issue- as I noticed that until I clicked the layers circle so it was full, even if I started in the default layers category, the map could not be edited. Hope this helps!
  9. I would make your different heights more random, your edges are pretty straight right now and if you think of nature hills and mountains are rough and eroded instead of straight. Not so bad though definitely keep up the practicing ![:)](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons//smile.png)
  10. I like the thinner outline of style one. The other ones seem to draw your eye to them too much instead of the actual character.
  11. This looks awesome! I really like your skeliton models :3
  12. > Yeah, it was released back on page 16 > > [http://www.samugames…EORJ_Source.zip](http://www.samugames.com/eclipse/EORJ_Source.zip) Thanks! hmm, more nooby questions below XD - Anyone know how close this engine is to it's final version? I'm sorely tempted to use it as it is and edit the source, but then I'm not sure what awesome stuff Rob's still going to add to it. Anybody have any idea what the rest of the to do list is for this engine? Also since trying the most updated version with the quest system I noticed that all the graphics (tiles, characters ect.) were significently darker on normal map settings compared to other versions of eclipse, or even compared to the original files, is this intentional? > Is there possible way how to cause that game will be changing while playing? Like it's in WoW. For instance, once there is hole of thrall miners and after some quests (when the story moves as well), they became rebels (because they don't want to be thralls anymore). So the story and the game is changing, but only on few starting maps. Then are all maps same. I know that's too much to do, already now you've done great work, but I would love it. It'd give opinion to make games with better sotry side. It might be connected with Event System. > > But very great work. Good luck with it. > > And name could be Eclipse SUNaH or Eclipse Sun/Eclipse Sunshine ![:D](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons//biggrin.png) > > Also, separating of Classes and Races might be funny. Pets and Mounts as well. I know I want too much. But i would be good, too. Hey Gepeto to have branching storylines or world effects what you could do is after a character completes say the miner quest you were talking about they are then warped to a map identical in every way but the changes you want so effectively you can cut the player from being able to go back to the unaltered map state before they finished the quest. It's not a perfect solution because it might slit the game world up into different instances of the same maps, but it will work.
  13. This is a great engine. Anyone know if the source code has been released? I know RJanes was waiting to release it till after the contest for head dev ended, and since it says RJ is the head dev under his portrait I am assuming the source code was released yes?
  14. I like using Eclipse because it's fun to create something. It's always satisfying seeing a map with your own custom graphics finished, (although pixel art is still an art so map's are technically never finished finished.) I've had a few mates just hop on and try the game I'm working on and all of them really found the default controls very difficult to use. Both complained that using cntr; and wasd was difficult while managing the mouse at the same time. It would be cool to make the controls a little easier, like say spacebar for attack or e. But yeah even if not many people end up playing my game once I finish it, it will still have been completely worth it just because of all the fun there is creating something unique and learning skills along the way ![:)](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons//smile.png)
  15. Wow this is great, thanks! I have a question though- If some of the stuff you use happens to be from another game, if the game you are making is not for profit but completely free then you can still get into trouble for using other peoples graphics right?
  16. Alrighty I'll switch this to resolved then with the advice that users, who don't already have Photoshop, just quick download Gimp as it's free.
  17. Sh*t Yeah! -all solved Thanks for the help guys, I downloaded gimp as it's free. (I'll probably try Photoshop later when I have time to obtain it through creative means) Following your advice and a few youtube vids I've managed to fix all transparency issues with sprites, paperdolls, and tiles, fortunately I can always just add a new white layer and put it behind all others whenever I want for editing purposes, then just delete it when I want to save the file. Again thanks for the help, your constructive verbal banter helped illuminate the pro's and con's of each program. This community really is for the most part fantastic. Perhaps this issue should be left unresolved for a bit since there might be a way to solve this problem for other people who want to stick with paint.
  18. Thanks for the input House, I've actually only been using paint. I have however left the 1st pixel and the background unaltered in many of my tests and still have transparency problems. I'd love to get a fix for paint, but I am willing to go to another editing program if I am left without another option.
  19. Not sure if it's relevant but I'm running EA on a windows 7 64-bit
  20. Eclipse version: Eclipse Advanced v3.0.21 Problem: Whenever I edit any graphic's in EA, save the file (I have been making sure to save files under .png format which is the default format EA takes) and then boot up my server and client any graphic files that have been re-saved end up removing any transparency from the images background. ![](http://www.freemmorpgmaker.com/files/imagehost/pics/438072f1e6d3f2e57cd0448aa7589828.png) I have searched tut's and seen that people say you just need to make sure your 1st 1 x 1 pixel is the same color as your background you want. As long as that 1st 1 x 1 is the color of your desired background you won't have issues with untransparent backgrounds ect… but I have found this is not the case for me, and I have tried changing that 1st pixel to multiple colors and even have done the same for the 1st 32 x 32 block. As you can see from the screen above this "save" bug or problem I am having is problematic and effects tilesheets, paperdoll items, sprites, but then those are the only graphics I have checked so far. You can see in the map editor above re-saving map tile files after editing them somehow reformats the background to go from the defualt black to white. I know EA's development is currently on hold indefinitely but I'm sure other's may be having this problem, or have solved it with relative ease I am sure, in which case I would appreciate any help on the matter. Thanks!
  21. ![:o](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons//ohmy.png) My god it's a weapon!
  22. These look like the tileset from vbgore.
  23. Here's a link to a screenshot I took of both the default paperdoll files for EA and the file I made and saved. http://www.freemmorpgmaker.com/files/imagehost/pics/b5981cbdca09492166c9821bdbf6a938.png File 1.png is the one I made which is completely covering my sprite even though I did leave the top pixel unedited. 2.png is one of the default paperdoll skins that works just fine and seems to be formated the same as png.1 which doesn't work 8P
