  1. I keep getting an error saying permission is needed to unzip that file, and then it fails. Its like eoserver.exe is trying to run something when I unpack it, and Windows does not like this. You could probably unzip it running as an administrator to get beyond this. But I am a bit worried that there is a virus or some other junk in the package I don't want. My virus software is also catching this file when it is in the tmp directory after being unzipped before the failure. I'm guessing your running into the same thing as me. This happens with both Eclipse Origins and Eclipse Worlds downloaded from Github.
  2. I feel like I just want someone who is not republican or democrat. :p I want change, and as long as we keep voting for these two parties we won't have that.
  3. IDK, talking to Democrats in the United States I don't know if he will win again. Osama is a win for him(it could have happened to any president in office). But he screwed up healthcare for everyone but government workers. Oh wait…. You re-elected Palin. XD
  4. ….that.....was.....FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome work. You clearly have talent.
  5. I am finishing up my Junior year of college and starting to worry about what is to come next year. I thought we might have at least a couple Computer Science graduates here(maybe please?) who might have some experience. The first thing I worry about is Senior Comps. Has anyone taken those, or know what they are like? Also, I have to come up with a rather large program idea and code it. I was wondering what projects others may have had to do if they were required to do this?
  6. Yours is nice Fabio, the one problem is it still requires using Windows native. One of the reasons why I feel java would be better for coding and ORPG Engine is that it could easily be programmed to run native on most operating systems, and thus free it from Windows. This goes for both the server and the client. To have your version run on my computer I am still required to use wine (or boot into the vista partition I haven't touched in ages). I believe, from looking at it, that I could manage to get the client running under linux native. But that is only half the package. Alright, you all win. I will refrain from posting(unless I come across something I need help with, and I find someone who could help on this community with that problem quicker than going to my CS Professor) about my own java engine until I have a solid base. If I get that far then I will start asking about what more advanced features I can add to it.
  7. This isn't what he was talking about. He wants a button that launches his game on their computer. Similar to netgames game launchers where you visit their website, hit the start button, and then it launches an executable that is already installed on that persons computer, not on the server. I believe all netgame and other similar mmo's that did this built plugins(or activex control for ie) that when pushed would launch the executable on the computer using that plugin. I suggest looking around at some firefox plugin and activex control tutorials to find a way to do it. It's very possible, and probably doesn't require a lot of work. Hello world tutorials would get you started on the beginnings of a plugin. Then you might be able to search for a function that starts a program installed on the computer.

  9. Ok, you need to create a subdomain(probably in cpanel depending on your hosting). If you do that using cpanel it should ask you what location you want the subdomain to point to in your files. Download a forum script(smf, mybb, phpbb) and upload the files via ftp to that location. Filezilla is a good ftp client if you don't have one. Then you need to follow the directions on installing and setting up whatever forum script you decide to use.
  10. Yes… Yes it is. Or at least it could be if I wanted it to be any good. Um..... I don't know if that is what I really meant. If you want to try and pressure me to work on this that is your choice. I don't know if it will help me make progress or not. I couldn't care less. I could also care less if you choose to think that I am all talk. *shrugs* It makes no difference to me. If you are trying to psychologically dissect that sentence, it was more of a rant than anything with meaning. The following probably puts more emphasis on what I am trying to say. I am toying with the idea of making an ORPG engine similar to Eclipse, but programmed in Java. I want to know what features people are interested in seeing in a 2D ORPG. This project is just meant to be a hobby coding project. Do not be disappointed if I never finish it.
  11. Wait, Solar Eclipse was finished…. in a few hours? Well, I could search the forums for the completed work and spice it up rather than make my own. I remember trying to follow it a little bit back when I first heard it mentioned but I didn't know it actually made it anywhere.
  12. If I was to make my own java morpgmaker like eclipse what features would you all want? I am playing with the idea right now. I don't know if I will finish. I know there was another one, but the plans are to keep that one closed source for use in his own game. Mine would be open sourced and better for expanding on. Just some current ideas that I am tossing around .tmx maps (tiled format) powerful and scripted npc system Some sort of easy to use event and script system similar to the rpgmaker series. Ability to set up functions with most keyboard buttons Support for Linux, Mac, and Windows Right now with the little bit of work I have done I am using slick2d and spidermonkey libraries. slick2d handles most aspects of the game such as image loading and movement while spidermonkey handles networking. Slick2d itself is a 2d game engine. Spidermonkey is a networking library developed for and usually used with JMonkeyEngine(a 3d java game engine[so it should handle simple 2d stuff pretty easily]). So yes, I am taking ideas to implement, and all of this is just for fun. Hopefully I will have time to work on it during summer(while taking 15 credit hours and a coding internship - yes I am crazy). If I actually come up with a release I will post in custom versions. Until then I don't see a point because it may not go anywhere.
  13. Hi, this is really exciting as java is the main language I use. I am excited to see how this turns out. Do you plan on adding scripting of any sort?
  14. The night time effect added to this is bugging the junkies out of me. Can someone explain how to get rid of it? I don't vb6. Hopefully I do not need it. Edit: NVM, stupid mistake. I replaced tileset 10. :p
  15. I was trying to let my brother build his own game recently (with my help for scripting - I might release a few here if I do anything good) and had placed the client on the network in our house for him. When trying to run it on the network we get a "runtime error 5." After trying hard to get the directx 7 issue solved I realized that maybe if I didn't run it on the network it might work. :p Sooooooo walla! Thought I would post my trials and tribulations here for anyone just in case they run into the same problem. Server runs fine while running from the network. This is a client only issue. And it's happening with Eclipse Stable 1.2.2 Have a good day.
  16. Has anyone been playing with Windows 7? Well, I decided too. I can get the second setup in the library files to go through fine, but then the batch file, the third one, doesn't work. It messes up on all but like 2 of the files.
  17. you guys make me feel old.
  18. oct 3rd. Next year I will be 20.
  19. could someone point me in the direction of a file, or post with the player commands. The help files seem to be missing. also, could someone remind me how to pickup an item. I tried the search, and I can't get it to find anything. using EE 2.7 Edit: Nevermind, found everything I need. sorry for the stupid post.
  20. yeah, notepad ++ for me. Kinda overkill for that, but I use it for everything.
  21. lol, woops, I just noticed the stickied thread. Stupid me. Really? Wow, I always used the commands to edit things. When I couldn't figure out the commands except map editing I found the admin panel. Lol. Is there still a class editor, was their ever a class editor? Lol, I thought there was but I don't see it in the admin panel and I can't find a command. I think I am getting some brain disease or something.
  22. Hey guys. I joined back in 2006. I used eclipse for about a year, then fell for the stupid vista downgrade, at which point eclipse became pointless. So I decided to come look back, to see how things were going. I looked back a couple of times in between, but stuff still seemed kinda lacking. Now it looks great though. Ran perfectly on vista, 64 bit, and was amazed at some of the cool new stuff you guys did. I was lost at first, but I think I found my way. I love the admin control panel. A big step I must say. I think I might be hanging around more. Congrats to the developers in their hard work. You guys are awesome. ;)
  23. Just a second ago I got ee running on vista home premium. Not sure about the client yet. Anyway, I tried all that wierd registering of junk. In the end, I finally went to properties and made it run under xp compatiblity. Then I ran it as an admin. This got rid of that dumb 329 error. Just thought I would share it. Now I have to go to work, so I will try the client tomorrow. I bet it will work. Now watch, this is gonna be old news…. :P
  24. the te download isn't working! *dies*
