Practicing Pixel Art.

So I suck at pixel art but I enjoy doing it. I've really only done retro sprites with a human like form and now I want to start working on tiles. I've attempted once before on tiles and they turned out to be horrid. This time I've tried a tree and I know it looks terrible but that is why I'm posting it here. So any constructive criticism would be great.

Right now your style is fine, the palette is a bit red and the shading style is unique, but possibly in a good way. Your main problem here is the perspective of the stump, which is more head on then orthographic(the view that RMXP tiles and most RPG tiles use).

Also consider contemplating your light source a bit. Right now it appears as if it's coming from directly above which is fine, but most games have it coming from a 45 degree angle at either side. Also, your outline on the top of the tree is comparatively darker than the outline on the tree's trunk.

Great start.

Like I've said I'm not very good at pixel art and I think the main thing I'm having trouble on is shading. As for the stump I've edited it and I think the perspective is better but it's not quite what I was hoping for. I just can't seem to get the angle.

@Harris:

I've lowered the top layer of the tree. After you pointed this out I noticed it as well. I've also fixed it so that the tip of the tree is more round.

Anyways here it is. Let me know what you think/suggest.

That's great. Now if you want to make it more realistic, dither more and use a couple more shades to make the shades blend into each other. If you want to make it more cartoony, try dithering less.

It's really great with the style it's in.
