Eclipse History

So some of you probably noticed that we no longer have Robin's history on the homepage. It was historically inacurate anyway and kinda bias because he has a big ego but lets not get in the details.

The point is, Marshy Dearest Dearest is fine with putting a new history up but it needs to be accurate and mainly talks about Eclipse's history.

I figured, why not ask the community to come together and gather dates and info and then write it all up in a nice page.

Please try and get a link to anything you claim so we can verify if it is true or not.

I use archive.org a lot to help with dates and stuff.

I will not add custom versions. These downloads were all considered the 'official' versions at the time which were supported on the forums as well.

Please help me add/modify stuff. The dates are pretty accurate but I know i'm missing some Devs.

Please try and keep the history within Eclipse. We can mention where it came from but I don't care for dates or devs of Mirage, PlayerWorlds etc

2.8 being an edited copy of 2.5 because DFA was being whiny little female dog as far as I recall too.

Anyway, you're missing a lot of early versions.  And the edited screenshot that started it all.

Not really Joyce. It acatually started at 3.9 if I recall for some reason. Might have been one before that. There was technically a 1.0 made out of mirage tutorials just like Eclipse but I don't think anyone used it.

Solid history so far, Baron made the first Eclipse Evolution and The Yellow Mole did the first Total Eclipse.

@Damian: I checked the announcements on two of our old forums and I never saw one post about 2.8\. After 2.7, Homocidal Monkey started working on Eclipse Evolution 3.0/Solar Eclipse (they didnt know which to call it because it was in a new language) [it never came out either].

Thanks i was missing those devs. And ya i couldnt get any info whatsoever of Eclipse 1.0 either because the websites were probably not popular enough for a Archive.org screenshot or because you started at 3.9 because the mirage version you used was maybe called Mirage 3.8 or something. If you or any others can help with some info that'd be good.

Do we have enough to begin writing and if so, who wants to make a first draft of the history?

Because forgetting the details of an account after leaving and making a new one means I know nothing.
