Greetings,

So you want to post a topic in this board? Well you're at the right location now, as this topic contains a few guidelines and rules to follow.

Lets begin. If you write a topic, be formal and follow the general rules of the forum. This will prevent problems with the moderators and administrators for the main part. The next thing you'll should consider is how to structure your post. Well simply you can just write down what you want to do, but that's not attracting any game developers but instead angry moderators wanting to lock or either already locking your topic. Also known as:

> A level 294 moderator appears…

Can you guess the next part yet? Well the next part would obviously be:

> A level 243 lock appears…

In simple terms this means that a moderator just locked your topic. Why is that? Simply, because your topic isn't complete. It says nothing about you, well it says that you're some idiot (not literally) wanting to become something in somebodies game.

So how to write your topic, then? Well, lets list some things down you should have in order to have a decent topic:

* What you are experienced in and what you actually want to do.
* Some [portfolio](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Career_portfolio) or samples of your work.
* On what you've worked on in the past like games, projects, etc.
* How many years you've spent already on the several things you're experienced in.
* Some scheme representing when you can actually work each week.
* If you want to do it part-time or not.
* Some introduction of yourself: who you're, where you live, how old you're, etc.
* Perhaps some prices. (Makes it harder to get a job)
* What you expect of the game you're working for.
* Some contact information like your e-mail address (Don't post the topic and just leave, be active).
* …

That's… well... quite a lot. But if you've most of that then you're certainly heading to a professional topic and at the end, for other bigger teams or even companies you will certainly have to provide information such as this, unless you don't want the job, whereof I ask myself why you actually applied for it.

The more, the better. The point is that people should know enough about you. You'll seem to be more reliable and trustworthy and with a [portfolio](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Career_portfolio), some background information about your experience, etc. people will know what you actually can do and they will think about actually getting you in the team.

There are some do nots (Not [doughnuts](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doughnut) or [donuts](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doughnut)) though:

* Don't ask to become a moderator/administrator in some game. That's just lame.
* Don't say somebody game is very bad. The topic is about you wanting a job not about that game, besides just deny it if you don't like it.
* Don't deny every game you see, the topic will lose it's point to exist, in that case.
* Don't say how brilliant and how perfect you and your art (Graphics, sources [Programming], music, sounds, etc.) are. Let people listen, view or try it out. Tell them you've experience but don't become [egotistic](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egotism), put your ego away.
* Don't [flame](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flame_war). If people rate your graphics, for instance, poorly then accept the criticism, if they posted [destructive criticism](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism#Destructive_criticism) just report it. (Don't feed the troll)
* Don't write in [leetspeak](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leet), that's just asking for some lock.

That's it mainly. If you've any questions, go ahead and reply. If there's something you certainly want to be added then go ahead and reply. Don't hesitate to PM me, if you've a question or some addendum, but please be formal, don't spam and don't flame, make your PM constructive, because I'm not going to read a wall of text nor am I going to read very poorly written English (read: [leetspeak](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leet)). If you do so, I'm not going to read it at all.

Regards,
  Godlord.

To further clarify that, yes, this does apply to replies, too. This board is primarily for those trying to reach out and find a project to work on. That said, this is the sole purpose - to bring those with applications to those who need to find someone. There have been many posts here, namely replies, that are not involved with that process. The two most common are criticism posts and request posts.

This is not a criticism board. This board is specifically for applications only. It cannot be stressed enough. If you don't like a person's work, don't post. Look at big job sites like Monster. You don't see people go through and tell people that their resume sucks, or that their set of skills is inadequate. That would get you banned from that site in no time. The same applies here. If you aren't looking for someone to help you, you've no need to be browsing these topics, let alone replying to them. Just don't do it. If a person gets no replies for work, that's a decent indication that they should sharpen their skills. There's no need for intervention to let a person know how well their job-seeking is working.

This is also not a request board. Unless someone is specifically accepting one-off requests, this is not the place to post your requests. There's a resource request, script request, and even a whole board dedicated to graphics requests. Post there if you want someone to make you one thing. If you're not looking for someone to join your team, don't reply.

Well, no, telling them that they need more detail in their topic is fine. It relates to their application. Telling them their maps suck, however, has nothing to do with the application itself and only detracts from the topic.
