Sprite Tutorial Using Photoshop. (Now with Pics)

I know there are quite a few Sprite Tutorials out there, but I wanted to take a crack at it anyway. Alright here we go. **EDIT I added the pics. I made them clickable thumb nails so they wouldn't take up too much space. The pics look kinda bad, I was in a hurry when I did it.

Step 1:Create your custom sprites. This can be done by using just about any paint or graphic designing program ie.ms paint or photoshop. They can be 32x32 or you can make them 32x64\. When you create a new NPC you can select either size (you can only select 1)

To create your custom sprite you must (well at least im pretty sure you have to) make it a paper doll. Now I can't tell you how to do it with MS Paint, because I don't use it, but I can tell you how to make one with Photoshop. I'm going to teach you the way I do it.

Ok what I do is open a page with dimensions 32x64 or 32x32 depending on how big you want your sprite to be on that page create a front view of your sprite. When you are finished select the rectangular marquee tool, and select the whole image and copy it. Remember if you have more than one layer you must join them (ctrl+e) before coping the image.

After you are done with that paste the image onto the paperdoll template page (located below)and place it in the 6th empty space from the right. Then go back to your other page (I'm not going to type 'other page' over and over, so remember draw on one copy, then paste it on the other.)

Now you can go either left or right of the Front View. Going to the right you create and place as follows: Facing left (walking:right foot foward), Facing left (walking:left foot foward),Facing left(standing still), Facing Right(walking:right foot foward),Facing Right(walking:left foot foward),Facing right(standing still.) Now going left of your Front View Sprite. Front View(Walking:let foot foward),Front View(Walking Right Foot foward), Back View(walking:left foot foward),Back View(standing still),Back View(walking:right foot foward.)

Whew that was a lot. Now I hope you remembered to copy and paste all of those to the template Page. Now as you can see the background is Black. So it you made a character with black clothes now is the time to stroke the image with 1px of white.

Ok Now

Step 2: Add your custom sprite onto your sprite list. This is really simple after you have placed your sprites on the paperdoll template click file->save as->(folder that your client is in)->client->GFX then click(once) on sprites then save when it asks if you want to overwrite click yes.

**NOW REMEMBER IF YOU ARE GOING TO USE SOME OF THE SPRITES FROM THE GAME REMEMBER TO PUT ALL THE ONES YOU WANT ON THE TEMPLATE,OR SAVE AND EXTRA COPY OF THE ORIGNALS SOMEWHERE OR ELSE YOU WILL LOSE THEM.**

Step 3: Now if your like me you will want to be able to pick a sprite when you create a new character. Well first you have to go to server->data.ini in there you will see something that says custom. Change to number beside custom from 0 to 1, now you will be able to pick a sprite when you begin.

[![](http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r246/mesadumb423/th_4tut5.jpg)](http://s146.photobucket.com/albums/r246/mesadumb423/?action=view¤t=4tut5.jpg)

[![](http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r246/mesadumb423/th_4tut4.jpg)](http://s146.photobucket.com/albums/r246/mesadumb423/?action=view¤t=4tut4.jpg)

[![](http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r246/mesadumb423/th_4tut3.jpg)](http://s146.photobucket.com/albums/r246/mesadumb423/?action=view¤t=4tut3.jpg)

**WARNING**: You will only start out with basic heads, torsos, and legs. So using a blank paperdoll template seperate your sprites heads from there torsos, and there torsos from there legs. Now you will have to use 3 blank paperdoll templates one for heads, one for torsos, and one for legs. after you have seperated them save the templates by going to the GFX folder and overwriting the head, body, and leg.bmp(s).

Ok now you have a functioning sprite system. If something doesn't work please let me know and I will update the tutorial.

There is no way to make it bigger I have tried everything, its because it is only like 83px X 8000px. So its going to be small when you put it on Photoshop you can zoom in and out.. you can zoom on paint too (i think) I know you already know all that though LOL
