Well, I'll be posting simple tutorials here!

NOTE:You must know how to align stuff to put these in your game.
You might also need very BASIC spriting knowledge.

Tips:
want to make round looking things? Remove the square pixels so the pixels connect diagonally

Let's start with a slime. Basicly the EASIEST monster to do.

Get the GraphicsGale Free version here:
[Graphics Gale](http://www.humanbalance.net/gale/setgalefreeus.exe)

Install it and open a 32x32 window.

When you get a 32x32 window, move the windows around as you like. Close the layer one since were not using it, ;).

(If you want a reference, here's my interface:

Not showing as an img, kinda big)

STEP 1:
The base!

Now, to do the base of your slime.
Use the circle tool to make the base of your slime. I suggest you make it close the the bottom of the from ( VVV of it ).

Now that you have a base, lets add the actual slime to it!
![](http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/6024/slimehx7.png)
(I've started to put a pallette in the corner as you can see ;) )

Let's colour it!!
Now, you should choose the color. I chose light green-ish.
Use a dark hue for the outlines, exept the line inside, since that's our base.
Like this:

(Enlarged so you can see correctly)

Here's step by step how to do it. If you want to modify your slime, do it! We need variety at eclipse ;)

Color code:
Outline: Very Dark
Corner Shading: Dark
Slime Color: Medium
Shine color:Very light
Base Outline: Light
Base Colour: lighter then outline but dark then the shine colour

Refer to the color code for hues.

The baseline should look circle-ish since it's the part that's touching the ground.
Here's an exemple:
![](http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/9931/slimeinlinedf2.png)![](http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/5868/slimeinlineenlargeddg1.png)

For the shading, put it on the corners!
![](http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/6226/slimeshadedin5.png)![](http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/6365/slimeshadedenlargedtk8.png)

The inside, it's pretty simple to do. Filling bucket!
![](http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/5292/slimeinsideew5.png)![](http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/9131/slimeinsideenlargedil5.png)

Add some brightness to it, with shine! (The shine depends from the light source)
![](http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/6924/slimeshinytq6.png)![](http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/3746/slimeshinyenlargedly4.png)

The base should be coloured differently then the baseline:
![](http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/2013/slimebottomrn2.png)![](http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/4879/slimebottomenlargedud6.png)

The final result should look a bit like this:
![](http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/1950/slimeda7.png)

![](http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/180/enlargedslimelj7.png)

Now, this is where your creativity comes in!
How does your slime move? You choose!
Remember, shading in the corners and shine towards the light source.
Here's are exemples:
Standing:

Walking

NOTE:It's a slime, it looks the same on every side! Make 3 or 4 framese and align em'

PS:I know it looks like breeze.

I'd be happy if you'd post your results ;)

actually I do my sprites as following:

![](http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s315/greensoft/howtocreateaslime.png)

1: sketch and concept work.
2: create palette and place the basic colors.
3: determine lightsource and clean the lineart.
4: create first shades and highlights.
5: create darker shades.
6: create brighter highlights.
7: create details and sellout.

:)
