.dat files - need confirmation.

Does anyone know how the data in .dat files (Maps, Items, Spells etc) are encrypted, and if it is possible to edit the data inside without vb/a client?

uhm yeah it is possible but only if you keep (for the items) if you keep the "Type ItemRec" the same as basic eclipse's

Sum1 should make  char editor for 2.7/2.8\. the 2.5 editor doesnt work for 2.7 chars

Greendude120, yeah it's not that hard to make one. But to get it working is hader.

Well my mine reason for an editor was for the player name. Cause somehow the /away command doesnt work and players have in my top10 this:
#1 Greendude lvl 30
#2 Greendude - Away lvl 30

I wasnt sure what the command was but i saw Call SetPlayerName in ur topic so thats all i needed. Thanks.
(btw i still think making an editor is useful cause not all players understand sadscripting)

i tried to open dat files with another language (Pascal)..
I just failed.
Well they are not encrypted, they are just saved  as a record..
