Difference between Eclipse and Xtreme Worlds?

What are the major differences between the Eclipse engine and the Xtreme World engine? I have searched this but could not find anything useful. Im trying to decide which one to settle on :3

_Xtreme Worlds = Simple, Easy to use, but not updated a lot.

Eclipse = Simple, bigger forum community, more answers prehaps?, updated more frequently?

VBGore = Hard as heck. haha_

If you don't mind me asking a few more questions:

1\. Is paperdolling standard in Eclipse, or are there just a few simple scripted codes missing?

2\. Is Eclipse look after well by its creator? Like frequently checked on?

3\. How does "well" Eclipse run?

Thats it, please answer my questions and thankyou! :D

1: It is already implemented in Eclipse, you just need to add your own graphics.

2: There are LOADS of versions and a lot of them are updated frequently!

3: It runs fine as long as the connections are good and the server is hosted by someone with a decent computer.

This is a nice read: [Xtreme Worlds Vs Eclipse](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/smf/index.php/topic,42931.0.html).

I'd like to add on to what Pete has said:

Paperdoll is fully functional in Eclipse and has been implemented fully since Total Eclipse.  Actually, there are two paperdoll templates that come to mind as useful: [**THIS ONE**](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/smf/index.php/topic,15916.0.html) and [**THIS ONE**](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/smf/index.php/topic,15918.0.html), which I believe both work correctly with the default sprites (or atleast the Custom Sprites, where a player can create his own custom character when he makes his account).

One thing that differs between Eclipse and XW, is that Eclipse is open source.
As I say in the above debate:
@Admiral:

> Well, let's take this part from their terms and conditions:
> "**_In no way shape or form do you modify the client or server software without express written consent from Bradyok Software._**"
> Yes, you cannot edit their source code to make custom builds for your game…  But in Eclipse, you can; you can change anything, from the GUI's layout, to adding more NPCs per map.

This resulted in many versions of Eclipse.
You have [Eclipse Evolution 2.7](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/smf/index.php/topic,28047.0.html), which is the latest official version of Eclipse (has some minor bugs that can be fixed by editing the source).
You also have [Eclipse Stable](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/smf/index.php/topic,49913.0.html) which is a fixed and revamped version of EE2.7.
Then you have [Project Vertigo](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/smf/index.php/topic,46896.0.html) which is a Side-scrolling version of Eclipse, complete with jumping, gravity, etc.
You also have [Eclipse Origins](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/smf/index.php/topic,57637.0.html) which is still being designed, and some other [Eclipse Source Edits](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/smf/index.php/board,317.0.html).

Of course, if you have a copy of Visual Basic 6, you can edit the engine yourself, with a verity of source code snippets somewhere.

Eclipse runs fine, as Pete has pointed out.  Given, you installed the library files, port forwarded, etc, but this goes for XW as well.

  • 2 weeks later...
You can dwnload origins now..its just that robin is updating it constantly so new versions are released…also knowledge of programming is highly recommended for origins. Mirage is an ancient program that is the grand father to many of the 2d engines out there such as eclipse and xtremeword
