Concept: Cast Away Online

Gameplay: You take the role of a survivor of a massive plane crash in the Pacific Ocean. You are a survivor on an unkown island. You must practice your skills and kill wild animals if you wish to survive.

Features:
1\. Player's character has real needs, (Hunger, Hope, Hygene) and if any of these drop all the way down the players character dies and the player must start over. Needs are explained more below.
2\. Skills that are all essential for survial (Foraging, Fishing, Tailoring, Crafting, Hunting, Survival)
3\. Complete player economy. That's right, the economy depends on the players and nothing but the players. There are no NPC's just animals as this is an uncharted island.
4\. Random weather with a On-site weather report.
5\. If it's raining or snowing, fires are un-creatable unless you are in a cave.
6\. Trapping, If your Hunting skill is high enough you may set up traps in special places the trap takes anywhere from 1-24 hours to catch an animal, and may not always work.

There will be more if I actually decide to make this into a game.

Needs:

Hunger: Just like any other person, your character needs to eat, if he goes without eating for 7 days (real life days) the character will die.

Hope: This is your characters hope for survival, if your character loses all hope for survival, he will decide to take the easy way out. To make sure your character doesn't lose hope you should do an action that can help your character to survive. If no action is done in 7 days, the character will die.

Hygene: Your character must bathe at least once every 7 days or he will get sick, and sometimes die. This is the only need that you can avoid dying if you wait to long.

Skills:

Foraging: This is the skill of gathering fruits and vegetables from bushes and trees throughout the island. Certain types of fruits and vegetables require a certain foraging level to harvest, and the higher level the food, the more Hope and Hunger it regenerates when used. Foraging is also used to gather wood from trees.

Fishing: This is the skill of making tools needed to fish, and fishing itself. Certain tools require a certain fishing level, as well as certain fish requiring a certain fishing level. Players will be alowed to fish off of any open beach in the game. Fish will be in certain areas depending on the area of the island, and the secrecy of the location.

Tailoring: You don't want a naked character walking around all day (Or maybe you do O.o) so the characters are allowed to tailor clothes. Depending on the furs/skins used certain clothes will add small bonuses to skills.

Crafting: This is the act of making tools for special actions in game ( I haven't thought this one all the way through, but if I decide to continue with this I will)

Hunting: The act of setting traps and killing some very vicious beasts. Certain predatory animals require a certain Hunting level to be able to kill them. Also certain traps require a certain hunting level to set up.

Survival: This is the skill that lets you build fire, filter water, and other basic things for survival. The higher your Surival level the less time it takes to perform survial actions listed before.

So guys, tell me what you think of this concept. I've never seen any game that is an MMO like this and I think it would be a great idea. Who knows I might decide to make this my active game.

It would make a good co-op game. Not an MMO.
because…
-how big a deserted island can be to remain unnoticed by anyone and thus not being settled.
-how much people can there fit on a deserted island before it's not deserted anymore?
-how many people can survive a plane crash?

This would make an awesome multiplayer game with 2-8 players, where you build a small camp, work out resources and explore the island.
Additionaly to make it replayable island could be made out of let's say 100 "map squares" and each time a new game is started those could be placed randomly.

That game doesn't exist, I looked in the first 10 pages of WIP Forum, and searched. Nothing came up.

Well, once the island got to 100 players or so, I would close the island, either until enough characters die off to re-open or if the island gets bigger (volcanic eruption spills into ocean, expanding the land). Also, I think this would make a great MMO. Also that was just the concept story, I could make a new story if I decide to make this game, that makes it sound more reasonable. Something like Bermuda Triangle or something.

Sounds like a pretty fun game, I'd play if you made this. New skill idea for you: First Aid, the higher this level is the higher the injuries you can treat, or sicknesses. Try adding that idea and then when someones hygiene makes them sick the person with the most First Aid skill has the highest chance of healing them, you could mix it in with crafting too to make bandages for cuts and splints for broken bones.

EDIT: you could say its in the bermuda triangle, you can make that island pretty big and explain what got you there, whatever you think caused the bermuda triangle disappearances.

@Robin:

> That's because Stranded is a figment of TDog's overactive imagination.
>
> As Kusy said, though. It's not a deserted island if you've got 30 other people living there with you. That's just a really good party.

Um stranded isnt Tdogs game robin Stranded is one of my projects that tdog is helping on. I have around 7 games being worked on.

That happens when your OCD, ADD, and bi polar lol you cant stick to one project without losing your mind ;)

Also note stranded is 3d not 2d we are still working on the engine in blitz basic and 3d models

That's a great idea, this game got way more of a reaction then Deadtopia, Kusy and Robin you guys should look at my edited post.

I might have to start this game and give up on Deadtopia, this game seems like it would be more fun to design and easier to get resources for, just in the past 30 minutes I've been playing around with making a client for it, I have all the item icons for Fishing/Wood, and I pixeled an axe, and this time it's good :P.

You could as well drop the whole obvious LOST idea to it, give it a fantasy or to be less cliche, colonisation or some other shizzle setting (even a post apocalypse could work) and make it where players colonise the island. This way
a) you would eliminate the nonsense with crashing.
b) remove the need to limit players on one server.
c) making it less obvious that you had that idea after watching too much TV.

First of all, I hate lost, it's the stupidest ducking show in the world, second of all, I don't watch TV, unless it is a movie or something I really really enjoy. Yes, I might re-think the idea, and I do like the colonization idea quite a bit, I'll think write some stuff down and see what I can come up with.

Edit: Also I wouldn't be limiting the amount of players on the server, I would limit the amount of players on the island, each island would be like 100x100 maps not including caves or something. And I would just change the starting position/map for the new island. I also like the idea of having separate islands because as an admin, I could go to any island I like and see the economy and the status of the players on the island.

I am thinking of a way right now, of how to get out of the whole crashed idea.

What might be cool is that maybe the plane crashed and there are natives on the island that dont like you and you have to learn from the natives and get along and say if the (Native ?????) goes down too far you have to defend yourself against the natives and try to survive at the same time and maybe even get enough people and plan an attack on the natives? sounds like a good idea to me.

Part of MMO is the social stuff. If you have player A, who likes the game, he tells his reall life friend player B to come join him… but the island is full, so player A is pissed that he can't keep his already advanced character if he wants to play with his friend on another island.

> How fast do you expect islands to fill? We are talking about an eclipse game, the most players I've ever seen on an eclipse game is 275 and that was on H&H. Also, theres nothing really stoping me from making Island Moving now is there?

Heaven and Hearth? Now what does that have to do with Eclipse?
I know, I'm just talking concept.
