Emily's Programming Services

Basically, I'll program custom features (or perhaps even debugging, though that pricing may end up being different) for you, in more or less any engine. The way I'll do pricing (with perhaps a few exceptions is this):

1\. You describe in detail what you want. If your description was not clear enough and I programmed something else, that's your problem not mine. However, I will ask if I think a description is unclear.
2\. I give you an estimate of how many hours I think it'll take. The price is calculated by:
Price (USD) = (Hours up to Estimate)*8 + (Hours Over Estimate) * 4 //The "4" might be moved up or down based on how certain I am of my estimate.
3\. You decide whether or not you want the feature, or perhaps haggle a tiny bit on price.
4\. I code the feature in a VM that I've set up to automatically pause if I'm not active in it – this way the timer pauses and you don't end up paying me to chat with friends or something.
5\. I show you the working feature over Skype desktop sharing.
6\. You send money, I send code.

So basically, if I estimate 8 hours, the estimated cost is then $64\. Lets pretend I'm pretty certain that I can do it in 8 hours or less, so I set the "extra hours" fee at $2\. If I take 6 hours, you pay $48\. If I take 8 hours, you pay $64\. If I take 10 hours? You pay $68\. Remember, I have lots of code that I end up reusing, so often times things that might seem like should take a lot of hours, will end up having short estimates.

Languages I'll take jobs in: VB6, VB.Net, C#.Net, PHP, Ruby (Rails), Python, and maybe Java depending on what it is.

As far as "endorsements" go, all I need are Robin's sexy words:

oh my god I know right, if she's better than robin then shes the best here.  Also, I like your pricing system.  What if it takes less than an hour, or it takes say an hour and 50 minutes?

Probably round to the nearest half hour (or maybe quarter hour) – basically just the nearest dollar I guess. Also probably a minimum charge of $4 if its less than 30 minutes, as otherwise paypal fees just end up eating the bulk of the payment.

Also, I suppose if I'm really uncertain about a time estimate, I might also add in a cost-cap like, "I won't charge for more than X hours if it gets to that point."

And if you're good at general programming, it's easy to pick that up fast, as Eclipse isn't /that/ complicated in the scheme of things.

Well then… *walks back to robin's programming shop*

Exactly. Was just pointing it out for people who like to lurk around for a new person to PM their problems to.

Considering I don't do programming in my programming shop any more, Emily is obviously the better choice. xD

I've been programming since I was 10\. Also, if you're actually considering hiring me for that many hours, I'd be willing to go to more of a list of features per a price model. Like $500 for blah, blah, blah, etc… . This'd be perhaps somewhat based on estimated time, but also a little discounted. Sort of a... bulk discount?

I think once it gets over the 20 hour mark (~$160), I'd be much more flexible about the per hour cost, and switch to more of an agreed upon price (likely based on estimated time) rather than actual time.

Also, I've got a lot of free time (aka, time to program stuff) the next few months, as I'm taking a term off from school (compsci/psychology double major and premed gets pretty intense).
