renzo
Definitely not life changing, especially with larger numbers, but it's cool to see it done in a different way. :Phttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-P5RGdjICo

SawQuart
Why don't they teach us this method? It's basically drawing… and is a lot easier.
azure
Actual speed math is faster than that. Kinda neat though.@Jungletoe, They don't even teach now days. They just make you memorize the steps.
luriok
lol ima do that for my next math test. Can't wait to see what my teacher thinks
SawQuart
I honestly think the US Board of Education either needs to be completely redone or be terminated. So many crappy rules and standards are in place.
azure
No we just need to drop "No Child Left Behind." Special needs/ed has no place in day to day public school. Besides Most schools only care about test scores. Like mine for example, we stopped learning mid way through 10th grade when the whole class passed the exit exam. (Before anyone claims I'm "hatin'" I am a special needs/ed student.)I learned to do speed math in my fundamentals of computing class and I was mind blown. Once you understand the theory behind it all the ways you learned in primary and even secondary ed are a waste.
SawQuart
I agree with No Child Left Behind, but why not leave the power to the states?
azure
@Jungletoeâ„¢:> I agree with No Child Left Behind, but why not leave the power to the states? No Child left behind is essentially worthless. Actually I would rather things be like the Japanese education system. I.e: a series of tests periodically throughout your education levels that determine where you fit best. It would also draw more attention to vocational schools, and possibly even bring them to a higher standard.–Discussion is starting to wander. Start a new thread if you want to continue it. BlazingShadow
really? you haven't seen this before? I'm 14 and a few months ago my mate showed me this after my maths teacher had shown it him. personally I prefer the grid method:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_2fiYzEf8A
Anna Comnena
Yeah when I first saw this method I was like "oh wow cool!", but then I tried it out for a few times, and really in principle it is no different than using the grids; you're basically visualizing the same thing.
