Drakiac
Do you have a MMORPG with a large fanbase and constant updates? If yes, then an autoupdater is the thing for you. Robin has created one located here: http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/smf/index.php/topic,58493.0.html. Follow all of his instructions so extract it all so there will be two folders, client and server, and one text document called read-me.![](http://www.freemmorpgmaker.com/files/imagehost/pics/52901e466024e96894999379a04a30e8.JPG)Now go to [http://www.webs.com/](http://www.webs.com/?referer=AFF-REF-65185006) and create a website.![](http://www.freemmorpgmaker.com/files/imagehost/pics/ba5e1e7259b44c3b74462fa91ff0d9ce.JPG)Do the setup and create your free website. Pick any template as it doesn't matter. You should now be at the control panel which looks like this:![](http://www.freemmorpgmaker.com/files/imagehost/pics/db8ff635a8ab7b83765a8da1b317a5a8.JPG)Go to Manage pages and then click file manager:![](http://www.freemmorpgmaker.com/files/imagehost/pics/71d552682b18491e6cd2d1a57a2e9b95.JPG)Create a new folder called update and then click Single File Uploader:![](http://www.freemmorpgmaker.com/files/imagehost/pics/137ff9764cdd1ad7936b82216477536a.JPG)Upload the file update.ini (located in the server folder) into your new folder (update):![](http://www.freemmorpgmaker.com/files/imagehost/pics/978e88d77653aeee24e526e1cfcec04b.JPG)Now go to your client folder (autoupdater) and copy all these files to your games client folder:![](http://www.freemmorpgmaker.com/files/imagehost/pics/c9ca9975b4d3146963449b3b172fa467.JPG)So it looks like this (Instead of Hogwarts MMORPG it's called client):![](http://www.freemmorpgmaker.com/files/imagehost/pics/04d551ffb2f0e3aac8337423d4d06a8b.JPG)Now compress these files and name it version1.rar:![](http://www.freemmorpgmaker.com/files/imagehost/pics/d33bbb0f6622eba0cc7e7253b5cdacbf.JPG)Go back to webs and go to the single file uploader and upload the version1.rar. Your folder update should now look like this:![](http://www.freemmorpgmaker.com/files/imagehost/pics/f7304e43818adf30ca8df739831d05ee.JPG)Go to your game client, click data files, open updaterInfo.ini and for updateURL set it to http://(websitename).webs.com/update. Mine is updateURL=http://hogwartsmmorpg.webs.com/update. You are now done!If you ever release a new client re-compile the client folders and name it version2.rar. Delete the update.ini from your website. Go to server (autoupdater) edit update.ini and type in:```[FILES]versions=2version1=version1.rarversion2=version2.rar```Now re-upload it your website. Now whenever downloads your client they will be able to update there game by running autoupdater.exe!I hope you liked the tutorial! If you want to thank me just play my game :P[http://hogwartsmmorpg.webs.com/downloads.htm](http://hogwartsmmorpg.webs.com/downloads.htm)-Drakiac

MrKris
No problem. But the blue lines around stuff looks like a little kid drew them.
Drakiac
It was on snipping tool and all they have is a drawing tool… Just so you know, I am not a little kid.
Guest
Webs is pointless. Use HFS.
Drakiac
HFS, you have to download and keep your computer on. Webs allows you to host it outside of your computer, less traffic.
Guest
So? Doesn't make a difference. If you aren't online they won't be able to play the game either way.
Cat
@Sekaru:> So? Doesn't make a difference. If you aren't online they won't be able to play the game either way.I think webs would be a better solution just to make an auto-updater ;Ofor real game websites you should use other programs. Guest
Why quote what I said when talking about something that has nothing to do with my post?
Drakiac
Like Cat said, Webs is a better for an auto-updater. I want to use as much resources of my computer as I can for my server. I don't want people taking that up by downloading files from my computer. Everything that I can get off my computer I will.
Guest
You've both missed the point. Whats the point of them updating if they can't get into the game?
Drakiac
I am hosting the game on my computer I just don't want to use HFS to take up more of my computers resources when I could have something free and online do it.

kibbelz
Hey i followed this tutorial and when i run the .exe and download the file it get this:![](http://i55.tinypic.com/33tp2eu.jpg)It is a .rar file i dunno what its complaining about.
Guest
It probably means the updater can't find it, i.e. your update server is down or its not in the server folder, etc.
Drakiac
Did you use winrar to create the rar? Make sure the file isn't corrupted.

I'm glad to hear that it worked!@kibbelz:> Hey i followed this tutorial and when i run the .exe and download the file it get this:> > ![](http://i55.tinypic.com/33tp2eu.jpg)> > It is a .rar file i dunno what its complaining about.Ok so it looks like it found the server (webs) it just can't find the version1.rar. 1) Make sure that update.ini is pointing to the right file (make sure the file is called version1.rar and not anything else) 2) Make sure updaterInfo.ini leads to http://(websitename).webs.com/update 3) Make sure you package unrar.dll with your client. If this continues to not work, then post your client as a zip and I'll convert it to rar for you.-Drakiac
