  1. > You just tried to refute the entire ideology behind open-source software. Congratulations on your nomination for a Darwin award. :) No, Netgore is probably far better than Mavra. The problem is that the generic library is not of that much help, and limits the programmer typically in a not so good of way. When you make an engine specialized for a specific purpose, it allows the developers that want a game in that direction an easier starting point rather than a bunch of functions that they have to learn. You can have a few programmers use your engine or a couple thousand developers. You make your mind up on that one, I wont.
  2. > I can get a game screen and an object moving in that screen (state machine) in less than a minute, no joke. That means Mavra is easy to use, right? No, programmers don't even need you to do that for them. Why would I use your code over my own? There's no use. If I want to use an engine, it should be complementary and specific like Eclipse. Even an experienced programmer would step away, just look at Netgore. It didn't make it nor will Mavra with that design mindset.
  3. > Eclipse isn't a challenge though (to me personally). As a developer, and I'm sure you feel the same way, its incredibly nice to have "bare metal" frameworks that you can leverage to create something like Mirage and that was my goal. Eclipse is very easy to use, that's why it does well. The language doesn't matter to the developer, it only matters to the programmer.
  4. These community type things never work out. Too much vision and not many people wanting to follow. Basically, you will have a lot of disorder in the project. People wanting to do different things/etc.
  5. The old games are dead, make something new inspired off of them. Move on.
  6. New [update](http://www.onlinegamecreation.com/index.php?/topic/17-legends-of-arteix-update-1/).
  7. > What does Arteix even mean? I was a kid when I made this. I got it from Artix Entertainment (creators of Adventure Quest) and thought it sounded cool.
  8. I've reopened the game. My last record was 34 online, but the game likely will not reach that again. It's 2014 after all. :)

    ArcheAge

I tried it during beta. I was not impressed at all with it. The Patron system feels like a sneaky pay-to-win system, and there are a limited amount of places in the game I heard to claim as your land. So it is a first come first serve basis, which means people with Patron will get to these places first. I also did not like the quest system, it felt rubbish and like every other MMO, when this game gave us the vibe that it would offer a more dynamic experience, but it did not. I looked up some videos of Archeage for people who played it a lot, and seems like the only thing it really offers is a crafting system to get the best items and a massive grind fest. It also seems to have mounts which can engage in combat, but that is not enough for me to play the game.
  10. > So in my personal opinion: the way Eclipse conducted its engine(s) might have slowed down the community's productivity, but not the sense of togetherness. That has to do with personal agendas and ego. Eclipse has always been like that. Not the problem. It actually used to be way worse, now people just fight against each other rather than acting better than each other. Who knows, maybe that is worse?
  11. XtremeWorlds was my first Mirage engine. I worked on Benign Online then made my own game over a 4 year span, and finally came here when Robin moved to Eclipse (had messed around with Mirage Realms too before going to Eclipse Origins and Eclipse Stable before that just never liked Eclipse until then, and many others after Eclipse Origins). I followed him a little bit before that when he was working on Essence and Essence DX8. ![](http://img.informer.com/screenshots/2755/2755198_2.png) The scaling is off due to it being taken a long time ago via a Netbook (the font dpi is different which causes the text to be much larger).
  12. > You weren't far off as to why id do it for the stated amount or collaborate for free. I have a day job that pays the bills; programming is one of my many hobbies and I thoroughly enjoy it and problem solving in general. I don't need it for a portfolio. Heck, I prototyped a game in Unity for Andii for nothin' in less than a week. :P Some of us aren't as lucky. :(
  13. Set direction client-side, and automate attack server-side. Make sure to send your directional change from client-side, if you set it server-side and send it to client, it will cause issues and desync you. I may have it backwards though. I'll add this in 1.2.5 though, Nin already has it coded in by me. :)
  14. > i wasn't really caring lol what you did it just struck me funny how you completely went at yourself for what you said. No, I did not. If you are saying that I want to do it too, that means I want to make an engine (not his game). I was responding to Budweiser not the guy about how he would do it for free. Do you not understand the context at all? It means that he wants the experience and that it is fun, my main problem is being hindered by working under someone else, and I would much rather work by myself than be paid $500-1000 to make a custom engine. I love freedom to express my creativity.
  15. > Well what the fluck are you are you interested or not like dam dude come on. Dude, $500-1000 for a complete game coded for him in an already existing engine that is fine. A custom engine is a lot more expensive! I do not mind making engines for myself and allowing other people to use them, but if I am making his game, I want pretty good pay. That's all I was saying. You get what you pay for, I'm not the best programmer, but in all honesty any great programmers wouldn't be wasting their time messing around this community unless they have been with it for a long time.
  16. > Pfft, Id do it for free, but since he offered.. ;) I'm interested in doing it too, but I'd rather not be stuck listening to one individual's narrowed taste and limiting my creativeness.
  17. > Aeirex is quite good, however he doesn't debug his code a lot if I remember correctly, leaving it prone to bugs and stuff. I'm not that interested in taking on this project now since he wants a completely custom engine for $500-1000, it isn't worth, and my engine is only buggy cause it was a beta release a year ago and 1.3.0 will mark the release version. It wasn't finished, and debugging comes during the revision stage. My commission work is always bug free and if there's a bug, all you got to do is ask, and I'll fix it no problem.
  18. **Introduction** If you are wanting to switch to a new engine, you can switch to mine. I can transfer your data and features of your game that makes it unique. * I am not experienced enough yet to decompile data for closed-source engines. Will try to make this service available as soon as possible. * If your game uses a closed-source engine, I cannot transfer your features, and you must pay a premium price to have them recoded. * This transfer service will begin version 1.3.0 and all clients will be required to have a DirectX8 UI. **Perks** * Comes with a custom installer (optional). * Free updates forever from my Eclipse Worlds base, as long as you communicate with me still. I will not provide free updates if you go months at a time with no communication. Make sure to inform me if you are going to be away for a long period of time. * Open-source and still supported - more to come. **Price** If your game is good, I will cut the price in half, but generally it depends on how many features you want to transfer. If you just want to transfer your data, this will not cost you anything.
  19. It looks like that video is ripped assets from Devogen, to me it is those guys that stole their work. I believe they (Genesis2D) released their source to donors temporarily then revoked it, maybe these guys got their hands on it.
  20. > "[xXaden](http://www.eclipseorigins.com/community/index.php?/user/84020-xxaden/)" > He is from genesis and he steal source code. I don't think he steals source code, if he does you need to show some sort of proof. Genesis2D is a poorly written engine though. ^
  21. I will cut the price of $1000 and give you a more fair price based upon a per feature-per-feature basis. [![](https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/67149765/Arteix/EclipseWorlds.png)](http://www.eclipseorigins.com/community/index.php?/topic/134183-eclipse-worlds-124/) I also am the main programmer of Nin Online.
  22. Moving the topic was a bit unnecessary… There should be a rule about shaming members. It is why Rory and I have a rule about it on our site.
  23. > So if i use Inno Setup and make my installer install the runtime files to c:/windows/system32 or wherever, will my game successfully run for people? You need to ship your game as an installed package if you want to be professional. Otherwise, people will have to download binaries and use a runtimes installer. The path you install it does not matter, but I advice you do not install it in your system32\. All the installer puts there is the uninstall .EXE.
