All you really need to do is design your own style of graphics using photoshop, Gimp, Paint.Net, etc. Then replace the old GUI files with your own. Make sure you get the file extension correct on the image you've just created and voila. Then if you plan on moving things around, you will need to get into the source to adjust some controls.
