guzmanm
@Azkanan:> HDD has a good bit of space, and I have another HDD on-hand ready for use if I need more space.> > As for connection, probably 0.5 - 1 MB on a wired connection, download. Upload is faster, can't remember the specs that-side.Nice. If the server is going to be sending not so-heavy files occasionally, then it's okay to go with Option 1. Yxxe
@Anna:> -snip-I'm not sure if you know, but I'm using C++, not VB. Therefore, I can send the big map in the smaller required chunks, which can then be patched over the existing data range in the client files. Anna Comnena
That doesn't matter. Why are the maps huge anyway if they are all broken down into smaller chunks? Is it an organizational or indexing reason?
azkanan
We had a talk with Stephan today and are going to be using smaller maps of 50x50 in regions of 5000x5000, now that we are able to unload inactive maps.(sic)

Yxxe
Updated map editor. 5k * 5k "Regions" just over 1GB, but split into 50x50 "segments", at 108 kilobytes a piece. Obviously, these can be loaded and unloaded whenever necessary, but I also aim to use memory mapping to make everything a bit more efficient (thanks for the links, Stephan! :D). It also means no large client downloads are needed! :DBelow is an image or the map editor, again, but this time with the new file system, which has brought 4 separate segments together. (The grid is just there because Azk wanted it). The code still needs a bit of cleaning up, but I should have the a working version for Azk to start mapping on either tomorrow or Saturday.![](http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy294/Adrammelech_2009/mapeditor.png)Peace,Lightning
