Settle, create a village, and defend your friends from the horrible creatures who lurk in the forests. You can change the landscape, farm, or hunt in order to survive the conditions– it's all up to you! **How can I play**? Colonies is currently in its closed Alpha 1.0 stage. After our testing phases, we aim to have a solid build out for everyone to enjoy, including those on MacOS and Linux. Please be patient– we want you to be able to play just as much as you do! **How are you making Colonies?** I'm using C++ and SFML. I made the engine entirely on my own.   4. A dedicated team and original gameplay. Don't give me a game where all I do is wander around doing crappy quests or trying to level up my player. Give me a game where interacting with players and NPCs is fun and not a chore. Once you get around to promotion, properly structured posts and good grammar can go a long way. Those two alone will help you look more professional.

This *could* be attempted more realistically in 2D, but the fact that they were showing 3D content in their concept video is… disheartening. There's no way they can pull it off unless they seriously dumb-down basically everything.

It's not the AI that's the problem, it's the whole concept. They keep mentioning all of these options and gameplay styles… which each have to be programmed individually. If it's going to be anything like what the concept says, they'd need A) some freaking insane servers to host that crap on ![B)](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/community/public/style_emoticons//cool.png) hundreds of knowledgeable programmers who are 100% organized C) hundreds of artists to make all those models for literally *everything* in the universe like they said. This is probably just some artist with no idea about game development or computer limitations. I mean, everyone wants a game like this. Do I think the guy who made this video with no demo can do it? Nope. Edit: After reading what you said again, Sek, I'm not sure if you were being serious or not. Blargh. My point stands.

    Marshy Dearest Dearest, can you archive all of the old forum posts and just keep the important ones? Like keep the old, worthless posts in some online database hosted for free elsewhere. EDIT: On second thought, just archive everything NOT in the Help, Tutorials, or Downloads sections that haven't been posted in for 2 years. Nobody needs to look at some old ass forum game nobody played.

There are legal ways to obtain VB6 on Ebay, although it's going to be a struggle. Microsoft abandoned VB6 a long time ago, so I seriously doubt they'll care about you using illegal methods to obtain it. I'd just go for it.

When I started making my game, I'd often try to load up on my ADD meds to make myself motivated and work faster. What ended up happening was that I would write HUGE piles of code, but I wouldn't have any memory of it the next morning beyond the basics. I'd then have to spend the following weekends rewriting and debugging constantly. After I discovered the wonderful effects of caffine, I no longer need those meds to keep me going. I **_took my time_** writing everything and made an effort to understand both the big picture as well as the smaller picture. The caffine just helped me stay awake, not rushing around. Currently, I barely ever get any crashes besides from the remaining bugs that still exist from early on in the development of the engine. I've had to rewrite things numerous times and had to take a serious look at all of my code. Basically, always work towards readability, safe coding standards, and security and you'll be safe. Never sacrifice speed for those concepts. With that said, I like to debug the few errors I get with numerous console outputs. If I narrow the error down to one function, I'll try to output "AAA" or "BBB" in different locations to narrow it down. The majority of the time, it just ends up being a stupid mistake that I've made– nothing too bad. **tl;dr Learn how to code safely before you do anything**

I personally don't care how many maps or items or quests are in a game, but if there are actually people out there that like that then go for it.
