  1. There has been a lot of discussion lately about Eclipse, specifically surrounding our community. One of the main concerns is that people here are too mean, and even clique-ish. This thread is not a suggestion, but rather a plan of action. Adhere to these [unofficial] rules, and we can see a healthier community live forward. * * * First of all, watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlO2_GecWo8 (You can skip to 3:00 and watch from there) We're all human, and deserve to be treated like one. If you come across a game that looks like it was slapped together lazily, you don't have to be mean when you explain it to the author. Criticism must be paired with ideas and suggestions on how to improve (otherwise it's not criticism). * * * Now, that video was taken from JSConf, a very well known conference, and they have their own code of conduct, found here: [http://jsconf.com/codeofconduct.html](http://jsconf.com/codeofconduct.html) Here is an adaption to fit eclipse; please read the following: **[Eclipse]** is dedicated to providing a harassment-free **[community]** for everyone, regardless of **[skill level],** gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of **[community members]** in any form. **[Being simply mean and judgmental towards another member is unacceptable.] [Community members]** violating these rules may be **[warned, muted, then banned]** from the **[community]**. * * * Disclaimer: Yes, I was terrible at the above points a couple of years ago, but I have been very humbled this past year, and it has changed me. What I mean to say is that I'm not innocent by any means, but we can work together to clean up the forums. We need to make it more welcoming to newcomers.
  2. Very good point, Budweiser. I think more brainstorming is in order, then.
  3. You're not selling it, are you? Even if not, good luck with having copyrighted artwork in your game…
  4. This isn't in the off-topic board. I'd like some serious suggestions (and no, yours wasn't).
  5. I think talking about the basics of game dev on the canvas element would be really cool, but I think It'd be better to do something about Node.js. Although most everyone there will more than likely already know a good bit about javascript, Node.js still isn't used as often as I'd like. So, I think I'll do something about using node and the sails framework to create an MVC, api-centric app (yeah, dem buzzwords… lol). I think the easiest one that I could tackle is a simple to-do application. Anyone else have some simple app ideas?
  6. > Chief didn't you create another account to avoid a ban? touche', though it wasn't so much to avoid a ban. Also, I'm more just making a point. Do I honestly care if you make a new account? No, but don't start pointing fingers without realizing all of the crap that you (speaking in general terms) have done yourself. I used to be pretty arrogant–I'm much less so now. As far as anything Mad Hatter says, it's so far down the road into entitlement, that It's not even worth a reply at this point.
  7. I have confirmation that she has the same IP and computer as Dr.House.
  8. This thread is so full of entitlement and ignorance. Also, for the record, Mad Hatter, we know you're Dr House–you're not fooling anyone. Creating multiple accounts to avoid a ban has always been against the rules; you're very much so contributing to this community being negative. For everyone, if you feel like this place isn't good anymore, what's stopping you from leaving and starting/joining another forum? You are guests on someone else's website, you're not owed anything, and you have no real rights here. Being a member here is a privilege; if you cannot abide by the rules, you may leave. It's not like we punched you in the face, or stole your first-born son. The website was sold, and now you don't like it. Alright, then leave. Sure, you can offer up suggestions, but most of what's in this thread is just crying over spilled milk, instead of getting a towel to help wipe it up.
  9. So, there's this local event here in Houston, TX, and I'm considering submitting a proposal to go and speak. ![](https://hostr.co/file/GUl5nh8wHR2f/spacecityjs.png) So, I feel like I'm not exactly qualified to speak on javascript. I might speak like I know what I'm doing, but I'm still pretty new to programming in general; however I am really passionate about it, and that's what they're looking for it seems. I wanna get some thoughts from you guys on what you think I should talk about, should I get the chance. Some of my ideas are: * Creating a simple app (maybe a to-do app) using node.js/sails framework * The very basics of using the canvas for game dev * ??? Yeah, I guess I only have 2 ideas at the moment. Please help me figure this out! It'd be a huge opportunity to get to do this.
  10. Your grammar is atrocious.
  11. The point is that you guys are nothing but take, take take. We want eclipse V, and we want it yesterday, and it has to be free, and also don't judge my games if they're total garbage! Come on, is that really realistic? If you truly want to contribute to the community, maybe pick up the hosting costs? Maybe quit your day job and spend all of your time coding a new engine for us? Try to look at this from all angles, because right now, all I see are children demanding progress (and free progress at that).

  13. I blame Mistro. (also, your logic is starting to border on selfishness. If you really want an engine like V, feel free to make your own)
  14. Every website is a business, regardless of what the community says. You see that banner ad on the bottom? Now you're in the advertising business. You can join the forum? Now you offer social services. You offer a product, even if free, you're now dispersing your hard work among customers. Eclipse is a lot more of a business than you think. This thread is silly.
  15. The ignorance… Guys, Eclipse V is under development, and if you were a developer, you'd know how long something like that takes. There are always refactors and rewrites that go into a project that large. Be patient; if you can't wait, you're free to leave and join another forum. For Eclipse V, $20 is too cheap. Do you realize that RPG Maker is usually around $60, and that's only a single player engine. Not all game engines are free, and should the developer decide on a price, you can either buy it or use a different engine. Enough with the drama, already. We know that the community isn't as strong as it used to be. Us that were around for years and years are growing up, getting real jobs, starting real lives. Right now, the community is centered around an engine created in VB6, it simply doesn't appeal to as many new users, especially in a world where Unity and UDK exist. Us being less active simply has to do with the other available game engines out there today.
  16. I'm not understanding correctly. What is this for? You need banner ads? For advertising your forum?

  18. > here u have "playerstats gui" the same on genesis He was a developer on G2d (I think) – I'm pretty sure he didn't steal it.
  19. Photoshop is suited perfectly well for pixel art… Not really sure why anyone would disagree with that; however, I wouldn't buy is specifically for pixel art. in that case, there are other (free) tools that can do what you need.

People call me a hipster all of the time, but I don't use instagram. I have better things to waste my time on.
  22. At first glance, the website looks good, but there are quite a few little areas that need refinement. It's as if a designer designed it, then handed it off to code by someone with no sense of design; lack of padding, poor typography, lack of visual indicators, etc. Still your games look nice, so I wish you the best.
  23. > you WILL need to take this seriously and stop talking text speak Procoder, using numbers as letters is still "text speak". Though you're becoming more legible daily, you still have a bit of work to go, on your posts.
