  1. > Seth, stop hiding it behind the word donation. You're closing the source, and selling a better version to members, there's no other way of putting that. NO. You are just not reading what I am typing. My engine has always been open-source. I do not believe in closed-source software. If someone pays for the software, they deserve the source-code for supporting its creation, but I also believe in open-source software beyond proprietary model. You just don't know to read. This is a poll, do you not understand?
  2. > No joke dude, Literally Amish2.0\. Seriously, Eclipse was originally invented to be free, "FreeMMORPGMaker.com" Isn't that misleading now? > > Eclipse turned into an educational tool believe it or not. and, while I understand that your "time isn't free" You didn't hand code Eclipse Worlds from scratch. In fact, from my understanding, it's not 100% your code to profit from either. And, while this argument sounds one sided, as the side of the users of eclipse, you have to remember, I was on both sides of the coin as well. **Eclipse Worlds** is free and the donation model makes it free. The only reason the **Gold Edition** costs money is cause it was before I joined **Eclipse** staff. Breaking promises with people is very bad. I am giving people the choice to choose. The **Gold Member** model is **Amish** 2.0\. The donation model is essentially **Eclipse** being ran as a service. > Since when did EO become EW? I am seriosuly confused… Are we donating for EW or EO?? EO has been discontinued. How could it possibly pertain to that engine? All models I already explained! **OPEN-SOURCE**.
  3. > I forgot about that, If its members only the client and server should become open source, but the auth server should somehow be needed to check for licenses or something? People can easily steal my **Gold Edition** , I never planned to lock it down with an auth server. Both are already open-source.
  4. > Also a question, Eclipse Worlds doesn't cost a dime to make. Why would 75% go to Eclipse Worlds and 25% go to the website? We're talking about paying people to make **Eclipse** better. Donation goals are ways to make **Eclipse** better. My time is not free. Even if I do donate a lot of it to projects. **Eclipse** with both models is aimed at making more money than what it costs to run. This is not a nonprofit organization. My plugin architecture will be a .DLL and closed-source. I will provide the API for people to use, we will eventually move to .NET or C++ server. I think this model is better which is why I am not defending the **Gold Member** model.
  5. > Would donating 0.01 Zimbabwe dollar get me access to the download? Will there be set increments? The **Gold Edition** will eventually be faded out if we go with this model. You have to donate at-least $5\. **Eclipse** will be ran as a service for members and not a proprietary engine.
  6. > What happens if the Gold goes ahead, but a donator isn't a Gold member? What do you mean? **Donators** will be able to download the **Gold Edition** . If someone donates that had already donated, their donation total would go up. **Eclipse **would be ran more like if you donate at-least $5, you get the **Donator** rank, but their is no benefits for donating say $200 vs. $5.
  7. **Introduction** I want to ask what the community thinks the direction **Eclipse** should take when it comes to actual monetization. _**Paid Plugins** will work the same in both cases, we will ask 10% or 30% of the money plugin authors make and put it toward the site._ **Gold Member** **Paid Engine** with **Paid Plugins** * The **Gold Edition** of **Eclipse Worlds** will be a perk of **Gold Member** . This will have benefits that will build up over time. It will cost $20, a one time fee. * We will add a **Silver Member** l ater on, similar to **Nin Online** where you can earn the benefits by being a veteran of the community that contributes to it such as referring people or making tutorials on the site. **Donators** **Donation Goals** with **Paid Plugins** * We ask a set amount of money and put 50% or more of it into the project, the other 50% goes to the site costs. * **Donators **will be able to download the **Gold Edition **of **Eclipse Worlds**. **Gold Members** that already exist, will be moved to **Donator** group. **Gold Member** group will be disbanded. _As a side note, members that are outstanding will get these benefits in both such as **Member of the Month**. We also will be experimenting with **Donation Goals** to see how well it works out, we want **Eclipse** to be the center of 2D ORPGs and something that is taken seriously._
  8. The easiest way to install **Visual Basic 6** is to torrent a hacked installer, but I can't give you a link since it goes under piracy. **Microsoft**'s installer barely works anymore, you are better off legitly buying the software and installing it using an illegal means. That's if you care about abiding by copyright laws for outdated software. Compiling is likely a problem with a problematic installation. * Uninstall **Visual Basic 6**. * Reboot. * Run **CCleaner**. * Reboot. * Install **Visual Basic 6**. If you have already uninstalled it, ensure to skin the first 2 steps.
  9. > within a few week, i've gone from 4.2.1 to 4.2.2 and I'm still trying to get to grips with this haha, I'm doing a much as i can to reduce my confusion haha! 4.2.2 and 4.2.3, are the same just bug fixes and yes, it can be confusing for newbies to swap their data around. I understand! :)
  10. Our **Dropbox** link hit its bandwidth limit daily. If you know how big **Dropbox** allows its downloads, it is about 20 GB. That's a lot just from one download. * The total amount of traffic that all of your links together can generate without getting banned is **20 GB per day**. * The total number of downloads that all of your links together can generate is **100,000 downloads per day.** A lot of members visit the site, many of which probably have not registered, but it does get a lot of traffic.
  11. 4.2.3 was released recently. Any reason you aren't using that?
  12. > I find funny how you put others down at the same time you compliment yourself every time you talk about your beliefs. Even if his game didn't actually have a chance of success and yours did, what would be the purpose of stating it? Time to compensate for being insensitive by doing stress test. Because, if this is your first time making a MMO, it won't get that big. I can assure you. These games take much practice. I am saying, someone with the amount of practice that I have, I am a realist whereas most people who jump into this have no idea and think their game will get super big. It isn't that **easy**. If you can't code your own MMO architecture then who cares? Why ask a question like that if there are no other options available. It's always good to make a prototype first with your game. I am offering early feedback to people with higher ambitions than what they can actually deliver, I am doing a favor by sharing my beliefs.
  13. Dang these bots are getting good.
  14. In my experience, the server can handle up to 70 fine. If you want more, you simply just need to break the server processing up more and allocate them to do different tasks, sort of like a cluster server. These engines were never meant for big games, and even my game does not exceed the need of Eclipse yet. I doubt yours will.
  15. I wasn't saying Microsoft sucked. I was stating their pitfalls. They do a lot of good work, but as Steve Jobs said in an interview a long time ago - "Microsoft just has no taste". They do not really have any farsight vision on anything they do, they just copy and make it good for the developers/users. The one aspect of Microsoft that is great is that they bring complex work environments to the users, such as their development tools. It's all Microsoft has done that I consider amazing. Everything else is just mediocre. Linux does take skill and patience. Skill is the ability to do something for a long period of time and get better at it. Linux is one of these platforms where it works as good as the user, if the user is dumb the platform sucks. It's like a platform that scales on the user's competence. Sure in some cases, you could claim that Microsoft does too, but no because most tools are already available to the user, and Microsoft's operating system is not dynamic at all. You can't alter it very easily.
  16. > whats a inno script? and thanks a lot for you help :) whats your site called? I linked my site… You double click the script after installing **Inno Setup** and then change what I say in the details of the download.
  17. If you want a premade **Inno Script**, my site offers it for [free](http://www.onlinegamecreation.com/files/file/2-eclipse-worlds-custom-installer/). I will be moving these files to **Eclipse** soon.
  18. > do you have a team working on worlds now? Just me and **Abhi**.
  19. > I think adding key features like DX8 GUI, event system etc etc to worlds making a stable engine with eo4 features is defiantly the way forward Thanks, I agree, even though bugs exist like camera jerks, I think it is way better than it was before. I will only fix these bugs with commission jobs of people refusing to update to **Eclipse Worlds** after 1.3.1
  20. I may include more updates, if enough people are supportive, but this engine is last resort.
  21. I fixed it hopefully (virus false flag), but I don't like people blaming those not responsible, even if I coded it, it still isn't my fault since the file wasn't malicious.
  22. ![](http://www.eclipseorigins.com/smf1/Themes/mysticjade_20a/images/forumlogo.png) This is the final announcement for **Eclipse Origins 4**.We are slowly transitioning to **Eclipse Worlds** engine to replace **Eclipse Origins**. Both engines are completely free to use now rather than just mine, but **Eclipse Origins** was paid software with a limited edition for a long time, we will be offering a **Gold Edition** for **Eclipse Worlds**, but it will be open-source and only contain 1-2 additional features. The **Silver Edition** is already available, but we are waiting on releasing the **Gold Edition** until 1.3.0. This is a quick update to **Eclipse Origins**. * Fixed camera more. * Erased HTML document, which caused some virus software to detect it as a threat… (Virus software, so reliable) * Added where map editor will force a size of at-least 24x19 or higher. * Removed the ability to resize or maximize the main window. No resolution or fullscreen, sorry. * Erased some data such as projecitles and maps to hopefully reduce issues. Projectiles wouldn't save for me until I did this. * Fixed issue where if you moved keys while getting map, it would request another map and freeze the client. There's still instances were client freezes, can't help it this engine is pretty buggy. It's a **LOT** better though. You can download it [here](http://eclipseorigins.com/community/Eclipse%20Origins%204.2.3.zip). This is is the last update and is marked as **EOL** (end of life) which means that we are no longer updating it. As a side note, I did not code this, please do not say my coding is horrible or that I am being lazy for quitting. I did this to help **Eclipse**. To install the runtimes, go [here](http://eclipseorigins.com/community/Eclipse%20Origins%204%20Runtimes.exe). Thanks, **Seth**
  23. The runtimes are in the drop down menu under **Engines**.
  24. **Linux** takes skill to use, but for power users it works wonders. The reason why I still use **Windows** is due to 3rd party software not being there yet, having to run **Wine**.
  25. Install the [runtimes](https://www.dropbox.com/s/3wujdcxqm303x8n/Run%20First%21%20%28Runtime%20Files%20-%20If%20Needed%29.exe?dl=0) and right click the EOServer.exe and run as admin.
