  1. @Pryex: > I preferred when Admiral was the resident conspiracy nut. It was funny with him, he argued undingly without calling people idiots. He provided… Ok I wouldn't say he provided facts but, he roveided more thn Tom. > > When Tom does, it only succeeds in annoying people. When didn't I provide facts in my debates? Unless you were referring to my troll-theories (earth is flat, Belgium does not exist, etc). I extensively used credible sources in that huge fluoride thread back in August.. @Mikekan13: Fair enough, to each his own.
  2. I think I was kinda ranting more than I should have on the fluoride thing. This has been discussed to depth in [this topic](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/smf/index.php/topic,63394.0.html); I can split the fluoride stuff in there, if anyone wants me to.
  3. @Mikekan13: > Fluoride occurs naturally in nature. Many foods and waters already have fluoride in it. Humans have been drinking it long before governments put it into tap water. Yes too much of it is a bad thing, but that is the case with most things. you are correct though that there just isn't enough research for us to know, good or bad. It is in such a small quantity that it is ridiculous to worry about it. It is just another thing for people to point fingers at. Arsenic is also present in most drinking water, even in some bottled water. Is there a scare for that? Probably… Point is people get worked up over very small things. The human body is an amazing thing and it takes a lot more than some trace minerals to damage it, or a couple rads of radiation. I'm not one to comment on the rads that's going on, but a note on the fluoride. Firstly, the naturally-occurring fluoride in which there is a minute amount in the water is usually calcium fluoride. Toothpaste and fluoridated water usually has Sodium Fluoride, and in much larger amounts than naturally-occurring in the water. It is true that taking small amounts is not going to harm you in the short term. But that is like saying taking very small amounts of rat poison wouldn't be dangerous, but having large amounts will (we'll ignore the fact that fluoride is an ingredient of rat poison). Eventually what's going to happen, is it's going to adversely affect your body in the long term (though are you implying by saying "trace minerals" that fluoride is not going to affect the body at all? If so, you're implying that it wouldn't affect it positively or negatively). I know you're saying it's the case with most things are bad for you, and that there isn't enough research to determine if it's good or bad, etc., etc… But the fact remains that most of Europe has stopped fluoridating their water, determining it's unsafe, and most cities that have more fluoridated water (as said before) usually have higher tooth decay. And I'm not even considering what happens when it binds with metals in your blood to make things like Aluminum Fluoride, because now you're dealing with Alzheimer's, Dementia, etc. You take in little bits of dangerous things throughout the course of your life, it's going to build up, even if the short term effects are hazardous. PS: On a side note with the "too much of something being bad for you", if you consider things like coke, high fructose corn syrup, refined sugar, etc, it is. Matter of fact, I've seen first hand the result of too much sugar leading to dementia.
  4. @Mikekan13: > http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002420.htm > > Read up on fluoride. Digesting it in small quantities is a good thing. Interestingly enough, there's no long-term studies done on the affects of fluoride, other than [some studies](http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/healthy-living/is-fluoride-safe-780948.html) that have shown tooth decay has usually increased in areas which are fluoridated, as opposed to places where the fluoride as ceased, and some case studies that have shown cities with heavier fluoride intake usually lower it's population's IQ. Everyone knows (or at least I thought they did) fluoride has only recently been used for teeth when companies realized they can use the byproduct for fertilizer in toothpaste instead of rat poison, based on a study that it increases the hardness in bones. Drinking it to help your teeth is like eating bandaids for a cut, it only works when applied directly.
  5. Sadly I don't speak french, but I did find a video with a [worldwide projection](http://www.irsn.fr/FR/popup/Pages/irsn-meteo-france_19mars.aspx). Not sure how valid it is, though. [Side note:](http://enenews.com/iaea-if-radioactivity-continues-from-fukushima-health-hazard-to-usa-may-have-to-be-reassessed-cnn-video) _CNN’s Matthew Chance reported that the International Atomic Energy Agency spokesperson made very clear that only miniscule amounts of radiation have made it to US and no health hazard exists at this stage, but “if the reactor continues to emit radioactive particles into the air like it has been, then that situation may have to be reassessed.”_ I actually have to go to Cali at the end of the month, so I hope this doesn't get too bad :s
  6. ![](http://www.freemmorpgmaker.com/files/imagehost/pics/f608c38797acfe965b800423f28b06f3.jpg) Happy St. Patrick's Day! (TODO: Get green derby hat)
  7. Coming from someone who's just been through four years of University, I can tell you right now that math is a very important aspect of programming. All those things you have in programming such as loops, functions, etc, is all in math. If you're not so great at math, that's what the classes are for. To teach you that stuff, and help you get through it. Heck, I wasn't too good at math myself, that's why I took a refresher arithmetic course in my first year (think Adding, Subtracting, Fractions, etc). I remember my first day of class, the professor said, "Hello everyone. Do you remember all those years of math in highschool? Forget it all!", then he started from the ground up. As for programming, the first few weeks of my first programming class was all math, from binary, to hex, to manually calculating expressions, to get a "feel" about how the computers do it (knowing the order of operations is vital). Then, if you consider game programming, remember those graphs in linear algebra? The X,Y axis? You deal with a great amount of that with 2d games, then if you're going into 3d games, you have to deal with the Z-axis as well.
  8. The Showoff board isn't really meant to be taken in the literal terms; it used to be called "Graphics Discussion", but was changed to "Showoff" for people to be able to post things other than graphics. You're not "showing off" your work in the prideful sense, but rather showing it to the community in a general sense (weather it's to brag, to ask for feedback, etc). It's still a feedback/development board, and you can throw a [WIP] tag in your post if you want, you'll get a lot of feedback. Here's some examples of people maintaining a WIP on that board: http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/smf/index.php/topic,68035.0.html http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/smf/index.php/topic,69047.0.html http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/smf/index.php/topic,35513.0.html Hope this helps, and I hope I got what you meant.
  9. @Mr.: > lol why would it be? This is the Eclipse forums. The only games up there are Eclipse games. We do allow [other games](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/smf/index.php/board,454.0.html) to be posted, we just aren't going to promote them in the news.
  10. @Mr.: > Yes I am xD Any thing Robin makes gets front page when there are a lot of games out there that are way better. ( No offence Robin ) But I do understand that it is just showing what can be done in a 24 hour period. But at the same time I don't understand why other games are not up there more often. As I noted, there were four games that I recall being up there in the news off the top of my head; usually when there's a notable release, we throw it up there. Link me to some way better games, I'll let you know if we featured them or not.
  11. At the college, waving at the camera (err, macbook). ![](http://www.freemmorpgmaker.com/files/imagehost/pics/6262ebd39506d2bff5016dd08184c71e.jpg) Working on two Sun servers. Room gets very hot, and those things are louder than a vacuum cleaner :/ ![](http://www.freemmorpgmaker.com/files/imagehost/pics/df25f9f8df4c907605f60989755267f6.jpg)
  12. @McAdams: > duck yeah, I live on the East Coast. You know, it's not going to magically stop in the midwest; that's just the furthest this map projected it. East cost could very well end up with 200-400 rads. We can always use [Chernobyl](http://qed.princeton.edu/getfile.php?f=Radioactive_fall-out_from_the_Chernobyl_accident.jpg) as a basic indication.
  13. @Snowstorm: > i just heard on the news that ther are 9500 people in one town unaccounted for =/ Yeah, the missing persons numbers are going up pretty high; I think it's totaling over 88,000 or something :( @Marsh: > Why is the radiation only going in a set direction? Wouldnt it create more of a circle effect? As aminooo said, the air streams carry it. You can think of fallout almost like a rain cloud; this dust literally "falls" from a cloud-like structure; it's at the mercy of the wind.
  14. I really hope that plant doesn't go into meltdown… Just found this; anyone know how accurate it is? ![](http://img847.imageshack.us/img847/438/fallout.jpg)
  15. Farewell Cat Island ;_; http://blogs.catster.com/the-cats-meow-a-cat-and-kitten-blog/japans-cat-island-likely-submerged-by-tsunami/2011/03/11/
  16. Isn't there a nuclear power plant on fire there as well today, somewhere else?
  17. Well, that game Nikkos was working on was in the news before, as was Miguu's, Ambard's, Kryce's. I plan on throwing Retarded Online up there when it's released as well; you want custom graphics and originality?
  18. I just noticed, the dot in Eclipse's 'i' is an Eclipse.
  19. @XBlue: > Well i just need some way i can register a business. I have people employed, but they are volunteering… So im not sure how I can set this up. I'm the founder. If you want to go that route, you'd want to go to your Security of State, see if you can get some LLC forms. Alternatively, there are some websites that may be able to help you; google found me [this](http://www.quickcorps.com/); but something as cheap as $35 sounds iffy imo. Just make sure you can keep up with the paperwork; LLCs have to file you special taxes, keep their books on records, etc.
  20. Doesn't an LLC need a physical location, insurance, etc? I can't link you to any places, though check the requirements for your state, and grab a form from your State's office. It'd be cheaper than going through a firm.
  21. Yeah, I was referring more to some armed guys that break into your house in the middle of the night. Anyways, Jungle, any updates?
  22. @Marsh: > I totally agree with the fact that the people should be punished for robbing you, but killing them seems a tad excessive. Your really going to end a human life because you lost a few hundred dollars worth of stuff. Shit they might even just be high school kids or something. You'd be surprised how many people are killed in their homes during a home invasion. Sure, it may be some kid breaking into my house (in which I'm sure they'd run when they hear the "Chink CHINK" when I pump the shotgun… Then again, I also read abit ago about how someone got shot in their house by an 18 year old who broke in), but it may also be someone armed themselves, willing to harm/kill/rape my family. I'm not talking about shooting someone over afew hundred dollars (sad that Jungle lost several thousand, but), rather using my gun to protect myself against someone that _choose_ to rob or harm me. I'm glad nobody was hurt in Jungle's case, though nobody was home either. During a home invasion though, you end up with people breaking into your house when you're home, usually people bold enough to do this have a weapon on them, and usually the resident gets hurt. [Here is one such example](http://www.iol.co.za/news/crime-courts/man-killed-in-robbery-1.1038111), [or another](http://fwix.com/chicago/share/6433800084/jury_smith_guilty_in_stabbing). It's not about "punishment"; it's not like I'm going to chase the person down the street and kill them for robbing my house, but it's about defense, and protecting myself, my family, and what's mine. EDIT: @Niko: > a few thousand dollars marsh, think logically. That's worth someones life. Yeah, [this clerk's life was only worth $135](http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-ap-il-storekilling-sent,0,5944494.story).
  23. Sucks to hear that happened man :( I'd keep an eye out like what Marsh said; they'll probably try to sell that stuff, since it seems like they were aiming for the more valuable. Though my grandparents had their summer home robbed several years ago (the guy robbed it while they were there, sleeping); the Police caught the guy the next day, but he already managed to sell the stolen goods, and that was the end of it. I invite anyone to try and rob my house while I'm home. I have been aggressively practicing with my Mossburg Maverick 88 Pump Action Shot Gun. I'd inflict the [Castle Doctrine](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_doctrine) among them, then call 911. Police are the cleanup crew..
  24. @DDunit: > Since when do cows look like manticores? Since… [Retarded Online](http://www.touchofdeathforums.com/smf/index.php/topic,36901.0.html)?
