  1. yeah its got similar elements but Im not saying its like you stole ideas or something.. that'd be like me saying you cant make a rpg and call your magical energy reserve MP taking over your enemies is a really fun concept and i think a lot of fun puzzles will come from this.. very dynamic lots of fun to be had
  2. Its not SAO if you dont kill the players when they die in game. If you cant do it with your hardware you need to hunt them all down one by one. alternately you could just make a hardcore server and a regular server like collonello suggested. the game will work perfectly fine without permadeath since reguardless its not going to be exactly like SAO if you dont murder your players.but it wouldnt be exactly like it anyway.

    8-bit theater

For anyone who has never read it id like to share this comic with you. this isnt my work. [http://www.nuklearpower.com/2001/03/02/episode-001-were-going-where/](http://www.nuklearpower.com/2001/03/02/episode-001-were-going-where/) its a parody of final fantasy one from the viewpoint of a homicidal black mage and his idiot friend fighter who likes swords. its a little slow at first but trust me its hilarious
  5. I love the idea of stealth and stealth mini-crits but does attacking while in stealth break you out of stealth? it'd be pretty rough to get beat to death by an invisible guy

    Eclipse 4.0 [Source]

    > @sekaru, for once I actually agree with you about not getting hopes up. But the same time we don't want to be like the last dev team and not update. Unfortunately if we don't post a few notices here and there we will get complaints as well, either way its a loss. I'm just going to try my best to make some dev updates here and there and not promise anything big. As I've stated with spark it was a side project I started a few months back and only became official because I found the source and cleaned it up… Somewhat.... Its a tad bit... Speghetti coded right now. Past me didn't expect it to be anything real... This community isnt really that much about game development that anyone would fuss if nothing happened, you guys are here to socialize with old friends very few people are actually actively developing games and none of them have a game that needs a better engine to support its userbase. any pressure to produce isnt real. makes a lot more sense to make the product first then promote it after you already know what you have.

    Pet ?????

You first need to weaken the target pet with your current pet using pet attacks, then throw a capture ball at the pet and if the ball seals you will have a second pet.
  8. You guys ever played abe's oddysee? it was a playstation game with a similar concept to this, though it was a side scroller, and sort of twisted. the point was to save your fellow aliens from slavery by telling them to follow you to these portals.. but they're really stupid and some are even blind..so a lot of them end up killing themselves. but a big part of the fun was taking over the enemies minds and making them kill each-other or themselves im sure you could find a emulator if you wanted to investigate it for research
  9. Thanks for all the feedback guys
  10. Yes, This is for my eclipse game. I havent named it yet but it will feature complex combat and equipment as well as actual animations that animate the paper dolls along with the user. whatever you equip will follow your body as you walk,run,fight,ect.. the 3d model is custom made by myself as will be all items and equipment that requires paperdolls. Ive designed some interesting features that will make this game not only visually apealing(for eclipse) but tremendiously addictive. cant really say much yet though lots of stuff in the air about it.
  11. Is the shield turning too much during the attack? something else feels off about this but i cant figure it out. general feedback and critique on the implied movement/poses if you would, also ignore the creepy face its just a placeholder so i know where his face would go until i find an artist that can make the faces ![](http://s22.postimg.org/qd4dx1uhd/frontan1.gif) ![](http://s22.postimg.org/nhraq6qhd/sidean1.gif)
  12. heres 300 and 400ms instead of the above 500ms ![](http://s13.postimg.org/j07sitx8n/300ms.gif) ![](http://s13.postimg.org/79tv1g4g7/400ms.gif)
  13. Maybe i should get fancier and make some kind of banner image…You guys make me feel naked with my text signature
  14. > I dig it. Reminds me of old school Runescape woodcutting. All you need to do is angle the shoulder with the arm. I voted the first one. do you mean changing the arm position or the shoulder armor?
  15. So, apparently I've been banned/muted for suggesting removal of the shoutbox, but that's alright, i know how to use forums. I was wondering if i could start a contest and/or if someone would start my contest in my place as i don't have the permissions. Id like to see an item creation contest, and the requirements would be something like this: icon for item name: item type: (weapon..potion..equipment..ect) drops from: rarity: unique desirable characteristic curse:(to counter desirable) an example: (pretend im an icon of a chicken suit) name: chicken suit of peril item type: full armor (head to toe all slots) drops from: The temple of KFC final room behind the boss(who was also a chicken?) rarity: one in the game, when wearer dies the suit "flys" back to the temple room for the next person unique desirable characteristic: While wearing the chicken suit of peril +20% to movement speed and a 1% chance of golden eggs dropping directly to inventory Curse: 1000% aggro range and aggro never expires with distance. (every monster who sees you sees you much easier and never stops chasing you) this example is silly but you can be as serious as you'd like with your item just give it something special and a drawback
  16. Im having trouble deciding the proper number of steps to animate chopping with an axe. sorry if these look ridiculous i didnt do much to them to clean them up and i already know the shoulder armor isnt following the arm still trying to figure out how to fix that without manually editing each frame First image uses two frames 500ms apart ![](http://s24.postimg.org/45gzl33h1/an1.gif) This one uses three frames 250ms apart so you see hes pulling the axe back before chopping ![](http://s22.postimg.org/h8p3ygfox/an2.gif)
  17. NSFW sites and SFW sites should be entirely separate
  18. Thankyou for your well thought out reply henrik your post has a lot of truth and i really appriciate the links it made responding much easier as Im not familiar, but some points are being overlooked. While You're right in saying the overlap between the forums and shoutbox would be small, we have to take quantity into account. maybe only 10% of whats discussed on the shoutbox would be suitible for posting onto the forum but thats 10% of a large quantity of content. so on the diagram the forums would be a much smaller circle and would benefit largely by gaining that 10%. Longevity is another concern in that the valuable 10% of shoutbox content that could be forum content is being flashed away in minutes rather than lasting for several days. if a conversation that could of been posted took 20 minutes.. and could of lasted 2800+ minutes there is substantial loss of user generated content, even if we consider the other 90% of shoutbox content that similarly is flashed away into the void. posting that 10% onto the forum generates more content overall and gives more users reason to visit and click through the site regardless of who is online at the very moment they themselves come online. if you want a community of indie game developers trading ideas, tricks, tips, services the shoutbox should be removed. if you want a chatroom with a forum for a hat, keep the shoutbox.
  19. Since i dont have time to be a daily regular i come and go, occasionally checking in on the community as its success is to my benifit. If you have any valid points to contribute to this discussion i would appriciate them being posted here. Please stay on topic

    Custom Sprite

    > I like it, put hearts on the underwear though. alright will do, that actually fits the vibe im going for overall for the game > This is actually amazing. I hope to see this finished and animated sometime! You will! at some point at least, this sprite is for my UnNamed game ive been working on > Wow, that looks really nice! Thanks! though i have to admit this isnt the classical sprite creation method. i made this by first creating a 3d model in blender and applying a bone structure for posing and a special shading called freestyle that outlines every object as if it was drawn. the camera is mounted at a 65 degree angle and rotates for 8 frames 45 degrees at a time to render all 8 angles. the special thing about this setup is creating new items is as easy as duplicating the part of the body that would be wearing said item, hiding the player mesh and modifying the resulting mesh. rendering the animation would produce all poses from all angles which i then batch crop and combine into a single image ~~to~~ and reduce the number of colors down to 32 and spotcheck any errors as well as erasing any interiors that would otherwise overlap the player sprite heres another example [attachment=1424:0008.png]

  22. I dont appriciate this parody of my thread.
  23. > I'm sorry, but I'm not going to make threads about how I need to head to the shop or how hungry I am. I see your point, however, the discussions in the shoutbox doesn't really fill enough purpose for threads, so a possible side effect is that the shoutbox disappears, and no new threads are made as compensation because there's really nothing worth making them for, and in the end it will just seem like an even deader place. > > > > Edit: I just realised how biased I look. correct, You wouldnt. you would be forced to come up with clever topics and developed thoughts in order to participate and communicate. And i disagree. many forum topics are discussed in the shoutbox and never become actual topics making the forums look much more dead than they are. example: at 9pm the shoutbox is full of people discussing lots of things and the site seems active. at 3pm the next day none of those people are here and the site seems untouched in the last day. there is no trace of discussions made in the shoutbox after the lines of text float up into the void. if i work until X time and most of the community is on at a different time I would miss out on most of the discussions in the site because after these discussions are made there is no record or lasting impression for others to continue with. > Hahahaha no. I disagree. > It would be cool if we could set subjects on the shoutbox and a user can type a command to participate in that subject where the discussion or debate is later moved on to a post. As long as the subjects are kept to a moderate level of debate, (which probably won't happen) I don't see a problem with something like this. It would get a good discussion going as well as increase board counts. good idea but you're just talking about making channels in the chat for multiple chatrooms and dumping the chat into the forum which would be messy. it would be best to just use the forum as a means of communication and remove the competition. similarly creating an IRC channel only ports the community away from the forum to a different chat instead of this one. If you remember my jokes.. we should use teamspeak, no! video chat. two other ways of communicating that dont let people respond for days at a time. this chat, another chat, voice chat, video chat. its all like talking on another "forum". the visitors of eclipse unless they're at the right time and/or the right place will miss out on the community and potentially never become part. > Lol, shoutbox has been up for over two years. The fee times its went down the site has been completely dead during its absence. not surprising since the shoutbox is an easy lazy way to socialize with people who have known eachother for a long time. Its not like they were abandoning the community because of the shoutbox leaving. they were holding out for it to return. > Honestly shoutbox needs to stay, if i pop online and see no shoutbox and nothing but topics that i have nothing to say in im just gonna go right away again. This is how a forum works. eclipse doesnt benifit in anyway from you idling on the main page to talk in the shoutbox. even if yuki put up ads to help support the website costs a bunch of people idling doesnt generate any revenue. forums are for posting. The heart of this community is the forum and the shoutbox is handicapping the forum from being what it could be. > Johnson, don't you spam the forum posts anyway? Lol. > > As I said in the shoutbox when this debate was actually carried on there. > > OP has a point, but on the contrary, not having the shoutbox kills the reason why we're even here. > > The forums are mainly dedicated to game development, (mainly)… So, apart from QA, Off Topic, and some threads... > > There's no point in being around for those who are currently not doing anything game related. > > > > The shoutbox allows fast interaction amongst people who like (or dislike) each other, but the intention is community interactions. > > The forum does it, to an extent. The shoutbox just seems to fulfill it, even though there's always disagreements and debates. Like above, this site is built around the forum and there are places for posts to be made about things other than game development. The shoutbox leaches off topics that would otherwise be posted because its more convenient. its like always stopping at the gas station instead of going to the grocery store. convenience comes at a price. its fast now but you pay for it later. there, in higher prices but here in lacking forum content > If the shoutbox is gone, this community is pretty much dead. > > The only thing that keep it's heart beats, are the members chatting on shoutbox, lately, they don't even bother anymore. > > > > So, I don't see how that could work. Forums grow like trees and the shoutbox is stunting that growth. the topics being lost because of the shoutbox existing are preventing discussion between members who would otherwise not talk to one another because of time differences. the website is entirely dependant on feeling active from the shoutbox because of the very few posts being made (because of the shoutbox existing) but how active exactly? if a handful of people talk in the shoutbox it feels active and conversations can be made. when 50+ people try to talk in a shoutbox suddenly its impossible to have a functional conversation. several little groups of people all having their own conversations with occasional strangers chiming in and more than likely being ignored because its easy to ignore them. the shoutbox is only functional for fewer people and actually prevents those few from posting. now instead concider how 50+ posters on a forum would look with infinite channels of communication expanded whenever needed by the creation of a new topic. not only semipermenant but organized by topic and those topics organized by sections. Forums are designred to handle traffic better than shoutboxes and to generate content that can be read and re-read. a good example of where you might want to be able to re-read threads would be in a Q&A section. rather than asking for help in the chatbox and either being ignored by the handful chatting or imediatly helped without any record of the help wouldnt it be better to create a post that could be indexed into a faq for later? Small forum communities can easily develop into a mob of bridge trolls that dont like strangers. ten people ask the same question and suddenly its so annoying to answer that users either ignore them or answer in a unfriendly way. I Expected a response like this but im glad most all of you are responding in respectul intelligent ways. really all but one but i wont name any names.
  24. As someone who has administrated forums(with shoutboxes) I think the shoutbox should be removed. I have logical reasons why and id appriciate the concideration of this idea and any comments you all might have. The ShoutBox is a great way to communicate with other members quickly and its a fun element of the website. but what is the cost? a conversation in the shoutbox could be compared to a thread in the forum. there is a topic, and multiple users contribute their own thoughts. the difference between this conversation happening on the shoutbox instead of in the forums is the speed of the conversation. convenient yes but unfortunate for anyone who might of been interested in talking about the same topic a few hours/days later. Without the shoutbox, the active community would still want to talk with their friends, and would do so in a better, semiperminant public forum that others could join in on and more people would have reason to actually check the forums for the topics that are being posted. removing the shoutbox would greatly expand the window of oportunity for communication between a broader number of users on a multitude of inevitibly generated topics from the active community and help aleaviate the "dead" feeling of the forum with the lack of posts. as a note, a "view unread topics" button would be nice and i think its already a part of invision forums software.
  25. When i look for moderators its usually not the people that ask me about it that get it. Personally, I stalk potential mods either in-game or by following their forum activity and see how they act as a normal member. big question for you though, how could this be a profession? Not trying to crush any dreams just curiocity about where one would apply for a paying job as a online moderator. its VERY easy to find unpaid moderators and its moderatly difficult to find good unpaid moderators but both dont take that much effort.
